  1. Really? Every time I go there, the mates are between 7 and 9 bucks a pack (excluding the variants, of course) and they always give that discount. It's a better deal than I get at most places where it's the same price minus the discount. Where are you normally getting your mates? And more importantly, how much are they? As for the Burbank TRU, I find that of the stores I'll check it gets a wider and fresher selection more often. And it has a much better selection than, say the one on LaCienega and Pico, or the one in Atwater. Assuming, of course, that it's not as picked over as it is right now. Three more things: 1- Where is Dreamworld Comics? 2- If you're looking for a lot of past sets, you might want to check out Legacy Comics in Glendale. I hate that store so much, but they have a pretty great selections of mates from boxsets to individual waves, including some as far back as X3. 3- Have you ever heard of AND/OR been to the Frank and Sons Collectible Show in Walnut, Robo? It's a free, twice-weekly, convention with tons of comics and toys, including good deals on minimates. You know, when you can find 'em. I got my Black Queen variant pack there for 6 bucks. Just FYI.
  2. I would suggest stopping off in Burbank for the TRU and one of the finest comic stores around: House of Secrets. The TRU gets pretty regular shipments and I always have good luck there. Also, it's right next to the Burger King that was seen in the beginning of Back To The Future. The more you know, right? House of Secrets, meanwhile, has a pretty decent selection of comics and toys, but the biggest selling point is that they have a 15% discount on everything all the time. The guys there are super nice, knowledgeable, and just downright cool. I try to go there whenever I can. Also, if you're in the mood for classic LA comic stops, you should check out Golden Apple in Hollywood(ish, it's LaBrea and Melrose, kittykorner to Pink's hot dogs) and/or Secret Headquarters in Silverlake (It's way more hipster and without toys, but it's still a neat store in a neat area). That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.
  3. I'm actually 300' tall, so my place is okay sized for the price.
  4. When I was making my decision it all came down to the blacks. With an LCD, the blacks are muddied and just a bit gray due to the construction of the TV. Meanwhile a Plasma has a truer black, and while it might not be as bright over all, the colors are much more saturated. Personally, I went with the Plasma and I've never looked back. I have a 50' Panasonic Viera. Good luck on finding yours!
  5. Yeah, that's a pretty rad set. Doubly so because of the inclusion of Throg. Good looking out, Punisher!
  6. Wait, there was a Thor 2099? But of course! Here's a picture, too. Funnily enough, that's not exactly what I had pictured in my head. Instead I was thinking Dargo Ktor from the Thor Corps. I'd be happy with either.
  7. What I would die to see, but probably won't ever... Young Avengers - Patriot, Iron Lad, Hulkling, and Wiccan (Or The Asgardian, if you prefer) Avengers Academy - Mettle, Hazmat, Reptil, Tigra Slingers - Prodigy, Dusk, Ricochet, and Hornet Heroes of the 90s - Darkhawk, Nomad (Jack Monroe), Thunderstrike, Scarlet Spider (Yeah, I'm going for it. Just try to stop me!) Heroes For Hire - Iron Fist, Power Man, Misty Knight, El Agulia Classic Thunderbolts - Songbird, Mach I, Techno, Citizen V Thor Through the Ages - Thunderstrike, Beta Ray Bill, Thor 2099, The Crossing Thor And I think that'll do it for me. Can't wait for the next stage of the poll.
  8. I'm at it again, this time with a QC instead of a full on job. With the help of The Red Skull (From Bring on the Bad Guys), Jodie Foster (from Silence of the Lambs), and Willem Dafoe (from Platoon), I give you The Mad Thinker! Now you too can have a fat lump that sits around and ponders while others act. Or you know, you could just pretend he doesn't exist, like most of the Marvel U tries to do.
  9. Just an FYI for everyone: Today I was at one of my local TRUs and it seemed as though they were getting ready for the big reset. Things were shifted around and space was available for something new, you know, you're general reshuffling. It could mean that all the stores are getting ready for a new shipment of wave 9 here soon. Either that, or wave 10 is on the way and there's going to be a lot of unhappy people around these parts. Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along.
  10. While I don't normally get moviemates, I might just have to get that Emma Frost. Not because I'm overly excited about her, but because I think it would make a great Sharon Carter QC. Man, if this wave comes after the Thor and Captain America movie waves, this is going to be a really light year for me with minimates. Here's hoping that they announce some more comic waves by the time we hit San Diego.
  11. Try downloading the new Megaman 9 and 10 releases for the Wii (if you have one). They will destroy you. It's like the game designers took everything you remember about and that made you good at Megaman games, and tweaked it just enough so it seems the same, and yet is nightmarishly more difficult. Nothing can be as hard as Megaman 1. The unforgiving jumps, the nearly impossible Wily Stage 1 boss (the blob with the eye), and just the general toughness makes Megaman 1 one of the hardest games I've ever played. Megaman 9 is a fantastic return to form, but it's more in line with Megaman 5 in terms of difficulty. Just throwing that out there.
  12. I think they only show non-TRU stuff at this one, since it's for a showcase for potential buyers? Most of the MAX stuff seems to be going through TRU. hmmm.......so based on that logic, there could potentially be mates they arent showing us!! There most definitely is. Marvel is a, as they put it, a mature line meaning they don't have to show the years line up to get the retailers excited.
  13. Is anyone else surprised at the lack of MAX at the show? You'd figure they'd want to show off their homegrown line. That and the Calico Jack stuff. Or has it been posted somewhere, but I'm too glued to the Marvel stuff to notice?
  14. Did anyone notice that the Deadpool, Dante, Taskermaster, and Ryu figures were marked as a boxset? Do you think that means they'll be more two packs? or that this is a four pack only thing?
  15. Quoted for truth. Man, I would kill for a Darkhawk minimate. They could put him with a Spider-Man and everything, it'd be awesome for everyone!
  16. I can see it now: Night Rider Classic Night Rider New (you know, the canceled one) Night Rider 2000 YES! And don't forget the specialty store Knight Rider variant: KARR. Rad and a half. I might actually get one...
  17. I really don't want to be 'that guy', but I'm really disappointed in series 40 (is that right?). With all the character variants they could choose from, we get MORE silver age stuff. The Mr. Sinister/Nimord set aside (which looks fantastic!), I just feel really let down. Why ANOTHER classic Iron Man? Four not enough? Why not change it up with an Iron Man 2020 or another Themed suit? And why is it we have three versions of the Green Goblin, but they all look the same? I was really hoping that this Goblin was going to reflect his newer, post-2000 look. Sigh. And then that new wave seems like a bunch of left overs. I assume the two left over spots are for a new dud Spider-Man and a Wolverine of some kind. Double sigh. I'm impressed with most of the MVC3 though. even if I won't get most of them.
  18. Totes true, but I don't think they could pull of masterbation-bate with a minimate body. But that's just me. Speaking of, whatever happened to those Tarot minimates? They didn't come out did they? They're not still coming out, are they?
  19. I'mma gonna put money on there being a 'Women of Marvel'-type boxset that'll include something like: Madame Masque, She Hulk, Spider-Girl (the new one), and Medusa. I think it'd be totally awesome... but I also think it'd be a hard sell to retailers. Here's hoping that they can pull it off, regardless of the lineup.
  20. I listen to a lot of stuff, but the one band that never disappoints is The Avett Brothers. Three guys from North Carolina, a banjo, and some of the most emotional, yet damn catchy, lyrics make them a force to be reckoned with. If you're interested, you ought to check out 'Emotionalism' to start before moving on to 'I and Love and you'. The latter is one of my favorite albums of all time and on constant rotation in my various music libraries.
  21. I played frisbee in the park while wearing shorts yesterday. it was pretty fun.
  22. Flash Thompson. Also, the new series is by Rick Remender and Tony Moore, the awesome team behind FrankenCastle. I'm 100% on board just because of that. Hopefully the series is worth it.
  23. I noticed the same thing. I think it's great, it's amazing what a little more mobility can do for these figures.
  24. Just a heads up, these are popping up at Targets in the Valentine's Day Section for 2.99 a pop. Because noting says 'I love you' like a gorilla suited lego minifigure.
  25. Here's me, pimping my blog again. I hope you don't mind. This time I talk about all the quick customs I've made. Not only do I think it's relevant to your interests, but I think it's pretty awesome. Take the time, give it a look. http://platypusrobot.blogspot.com/2011/01/...-minimates.html I promise, it's a blog that keeps on giving... at least three times a week...
