  1. oh man - that catwoman is PERFECT! If DST or DCD or whoever released a 'Mate of her in that costume - that would be it! If whoever you have made it for decides they don't like it - let me know (yeah - like that will happen) And Star Sapphire looks awesome too - your paintwork is spot on!
  2. Wow - i'm about to become even less popular . . . But i kind of like some of them. Not as figures, but as the kind of cool, indy, vinyl, designer toys. I wouldn't buy them as figures - but i'd probably get myself that sick, twisted looking little joker to have on my shelf. The last range of blocky DC figures really didn't impress me. They were like lame versions of Muggs. These are creepy & unique enough to be interesting. Please don't hit me . . . .
  3. Well - i gotta say, seeing ti perks my interest more than the initial concept did. I'm still not totally sold - it'll depend on how much money i have when they get released i guess. And although i'd much rather see it - I'm not sure that they'll do a box set that re-releases two such similar looking figures so soon (Sentry & Hawkeye). BUT - is anyone else hopefull that maybe, since this is getting some Toys'R'Us coverage, we *might* see an Ares/Dark Ms Marvel 2-Pack like we did with the upcomming surprise Bullseye/Moonstone pack???? 'I see you shiver, with antici . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . pation'
  4. So, when is the Prototype for USW due??? Also - what is jutting out of Scorpions belt-line & do we think it will be corrected before the final product is released? Or is it meant to be like that?
  5. Yeah . . . . i agree for the most part, but there are some truely awesome stroies that i loved in the 90's, plus it was the era i first started reading in - so i am a bit soft for it
  6. I actually would have still voted for her (if i HAD voted for her in the first place. And considering how she's doing at the moment, i wish i had). I'd like to split my x-men into teams. Jim Lee's Gold Team, Outback X-Men, Astonishing etc . . . At the moment - they are all together in one big hotch-potch of a team who's costumes span about 25 years.
  7. Well - they could make some Prime Sentinels from the Zero Tolerance story arc, as they were the same size as standard humans? They'd make a cool army builder too, especially if we got a Bastion to lead them. The only thing is that i don't know id DST/AA would class them as 'popular' or 'recognizable' enough to sell . . .
  8. Yes, I agree. Good thing is, that Hydra agent doesn't need to wear that bulky jacket. T'Challa's head might hopefully be a result of a bad perspective. And regarding Moon Knight's cape, I think it's just bad placement here. Whoever arranges those promo pics - they should acquire Ivan for that! - isn't really into it. I mean look at Daredevil's torso. They do this a lot to get more dynamic positions from the characters. If you go back and have a look at the prototype pics from the Defenders box set, you'll notice that Namors head isn't really 'popped' onto his neck ball, it's just resting on top so they could get the angle they wanted for the image.
  9. wpw - they are all awesome. Especially two face & scarecrow. have you used magneto's hair for two-face? Really impressive man. I love batman villains!!!
  10. So - ArtAsylum has updated the 'May 13, 2009 : The Code Has Been Broken!' blog with this announcement: 'Update: Thanks to everyone who has correctly deciphered our secret message. The first ten winners will be receiving their prize packs shortly. Everyone else, thanks for playing along!' Still no word on who the winners were, although i suspect they have been contacted individually in private.
  11. I *think* they'll be made available on the AFX web site too . . . at least, the AFX exclusives will be.
  12. Yeah - i'm in the same boat. But it was still a bit exciting to discover what it was saying & hurry an email off to DST . . . even i if realised after that i was probably too late. Do we know if the winners have been announced? If you've won - let us know what the prize was ; )
  13. Or just split the difference, throw out Destiny and add a battle damaged Wolverine. Don't think they've made that one yet. If this comes to pass, i will hold YOU personally accountable, hunt you down & slap you with a wet trout. LOL - Joking. . . kinda (but not really)
  14. Not taking as such, Nathaniel. The 90's cartoon is, well, at least a decade old. It's been in soradic reruns since. Evolution did have the goggles, but a very different costume. (had a lot of grey IIRC) It too is at least 5 years gone. And I haven't seen it in reruns. When you're talking kids, you're hitting about 7 to 12 for this kind of toy. And that's what blizzerd mentioned was kids. So most of them were either too young or not around for those shows. Now there was a the SUper Hero squad and the video game and that helps Pryo more than anything else. But I can only speak for the kids in that age range I know. And over half of them are like my kid, and the sons of recovering comics nerds. And even in that group, I'd say only about half would pick Pryo in costume out of a lineup of other fire themed characters. All that said, kid recognition is obviously not the by all and end all of minimate selection. We've made it to wave 30 as mostly a small scale collector focused line. Given that, it is surprising that Mandarin, Pryo, or yes Kang have not been made. Now as MM's have re-entered the mass market in TRU, kid appeal may re-enter the equation. I'm not knockin Pyro, fellas. I'd love to see one made. But I dispute the notion he's at least recognisable as Sabretooth to most kids in the suit most of us think of him in. That's all. I agree that Pyro's not as recognisable as Sabretooth - but in fairness Sabretooth hasn't worn his Jim Lee costume for close to 10 years - or his FA costume for about 20years (Which are the costumes we are getting in MiniMate form). Pyro may not be a big hitter like Sabretooth, but when i see us getting LESS recognisable (as far as kids tv goes) chacaters like Lady D, Thanos, Bullseye, Leader etc . . . who aren't really Kids TV characters - i get confused as to how the 'Recogniseable = Marketable' argument works. I'll admit - i'm pretty biased towards X-Villains cause i grew up with them, but Pyro has been one of the cool X-Men bad guys for a years & his look has been fairly consistent: Classic Look featured in X-Men Animated Updated X-Men Evolution Current Wolverine & The X-Men Pyro
  15. Pyro is different. Do kids know him from the X-movies? Sure. Do they recognise him as the guy in the orange and red costume and big red goggles? Not really. Put Nitro's fire hand and Hydroman's hair on Marty Mcfly in Disguise and that they might recognise as Pyro. And he hasn't appeared in costume in the newest X-Men cartoon either. On the other hand, Electro was in a couple of episodes of Spectacular Spider Man. The look was very different, but the lightning around the head, and general color scheme was the same. And Sabretooth is very memorible from the first movie, even before the current one came out. Not to be a jerk, but i'm pretty sure the Red & Yellow goggled Pyro appeared in the original X-Men animated series from the 90's. He also featured in the 2nd and 3rd series of X-Men Evolution with a similar, although slightly modernised costume. He also appeared in similar costumes in X-Men Legends & X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse. There was also a recent Marvel Legends figure of him in his classic costume, as well as a Superhero Squad version in the same garb.. For anyone who has history with the X-Men, i think he's pretty recognisable. Maybe not as recognisable as Sabretooth - but i'd recognise him before i recognised The Leader (Hulk), Ultron (Avengers) or Lady Deathstrike (X-Men).
  16. Alright, so my top 10 X-Villains that i'd like to see would be (roughly in order of personal craving): Mr Sinister Pyro Spiral Deathbird Stryfe Omega Red Holocaust Nimrod Malice (Possessed Polaris) Fitzroy So - these arent' the best X-Villains fo all time, but i think they walk the line between being classic bad guys or being something that would loook hella-cool as a 'Mate. Fitzroy isn't a major player, but he has green hair & crystal armour that wouls look awesome in MiniMate form.
  17. Where'd you get 10 from?? So confused... Oh Sh!t - now i'm worried that I'VE got it wrong.
  18. So - it's ONLY the first 10 to reply? Or is it 10 randomly selected responses from however many they get?
  19. Well - i'm actually happy to be getting two female characters. My MiniMates shelves are all a bit Phalocentric at the moment (no - that does not mean i have a miniature Phalanx army attacking), So i welcome any female heroes or characters.
  20. Well - not a bad round. . . . not a great one, but that's probably just because i'm biased towards X-Men & Old Skool Avengers characters. I'm not too disapointed with the designs. As it's been stated earlier in the thread - we are getting a whole heap of sculpted pieces and new parts for wave 29 - so i can understand making a few simpler characters to keep the costs in check. And even with that in mind - we are getting some awesome sculpting on both Electro & Scorpian. May's hair is brilliant, i may have to buy one for a Wasp custom. And i'm pretty impressed that Scorpians rivets & armour lines go ALL the way around his arms, chest & legs. I hope this stays the case when it comes to the actual production of him. And i for one, like the darkened face on Ultimate Spider Woman - it guves her a bit more punch & makes her look kind of mysterious i guess. In all fairness - i think this is a pretty decent wave, and that it would have been a killer if HOM SpiderMan had been replaced with a Vulture or Symbiote. But, for the sake of keeping costs down & 'spacing out' the villains - i understand why he wasn't. I think i'd give the wave a C+ or B-. Above average, showing great potential - but let down by a couple of uninspiring results. A simliar idea to what you guys have mentioned is the way ManBat was treated: http://minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=249
  21. He he he - don't get me started. There are DOZENS of X-Men enemies that i am dying to see made into 'Mates: Stryfe; Mr Sinister; Sebastian Shaw; Fitzroy with hiw crystal Armour; Holocaust; Blob; Toad; Hell Fire Goons; Phalanx; Avalanche; Destiny; Pyro; Black Tom; Nimrod; Bastian; Spiral; Omega Red; Sauron; Shadow King; etc ... etc ... blah blah. But if i harped about the villains i want as much as we heard requests for Spiderman Enemies, i think i'd be boo'ed out for requesting characters that are 'over-saturated'. But you have a point - I have Spiderman & Blackcat facing off against an army of about a dozen Spider-specific bad guys on my bookshelf, while i have about 15 X-Men with only 6 or so Villains to face off with.
  22. OH NO! The invite has been sent - get ready for this to turn into ANOTHER wish-list thread!!! LOL
  23. Another Awesome X-Man design. You do us X-Philes proud, Chazwinski!
  24. And we will get it...in Marvel series 43. Be fair. They'll be revealing the Vulture for NEXT YEARS Spidey wave. Should be wave 35 or 36. Which, as long as we keep filling out Spidey's rogues gallery, I won't mind seeing. Right now, even in a Spidey wave, we get at least three not Spidey characters. As a guy who spent most of the last decade hunting down Marvel Legends, where villains came on per wave, this is Christmas. Seriously? A week after they announced Storm, Black Panther, Moon Knight, Bullseye and Moonstone? Two days after they announced Scorpion and Electro? DST is incapable of giving us characters we've been whining for for years? Really? Funny stuff. It's nice to see the "The Company X clearly hates its customers" is a universal fan constant. When Toy Biz were making ML's, they were evil, uncaring bastards who never listened to the fans and must have wanted the line to fail with their character selection/costume choices/lack of or overuse of X-characters. Then Hasbro got the liscense and Hasbro became evil, and everyone longed for the TB days and forgot they were ever mad at them. Of course, toy collectors are used to hating Hasbro, because they keep screwing up Transformers, and only Takara (spectaclestesticleswalltewatch) ever gets them right. Except the random chrome, but that's another issue entirely. For the Record, I never bad-mouthed ToyBiz. I've been collecting them since i first started buying toys, and with the exception of my pleading for more obscure characters that i knew i would never get, i was always impressed with the Range, Quality & Price of the Marvel Legends. I STILL yearn for them. I think it's kind of cool though that MiniMates are getting to the point where they eventually will have a better range of character than Marvel Legends did (if they haven't already). As it is, we have already gotten heaps of weird/obscure characters that Marvel Legends could never have made, Like Mariko, Safari Jacket Wonder Man, Cloak, Dagger, Firestar . . etc . . . Maybe AA/DST could take over Marvel Legends? LOL
