  1. Oooooh, those look adequately creepy Luke! I think I can think of one boardie in particular here who'll be quite taken with them
  2. I think there was an extra option where you can have your archive uploaded to an XML file instead, and it just opens in a new window. From there you can just copy/paste it into a text document. I think.
  3. Now THAT'S a Badass. He gets in too. He leads 1,500 against 49 and he's a hero because he won? Yeah... don't even get me started on the weird, troubling xenophobic undertones of the whole invasion story. Or the wild mass theories circulating about the guy being named after (or possibly even being) a fish. History works funny that way. Hypothetical question: What does anybody here think of some nice British comedy Minimates? Something like Monty Python or Blackadder maybe, but personally I'd love to see a fun Mr. Bean pack myself
  4. Look, they best way to settle this argument is simple: Rename "flesh" (that soft squishy stuff that most sentient beings and representations thereof are often covered in) into "meat." Rename the flesh-colored blanks "tastefully undressed Minimate prototype base figures." For everything else, refer to this helpful little blog entry.
  5. As long as I maintain control of the Miscellaneous Mini Factions Imperium, nobody gets hurt. Well, not unless the Hasbro Heroes and the Shockinis decide they want to join forces and wage a revolt or something. I can't help you there.
  6. I can see where you're coming from youbastards. To me though the problem is that despite all our whining and bitching to the contrary, DST still doesn't quite possess the same toymaking clout that "big" companies like Mattel and Hasbro do. They're still very much geared to a niche collectible market, and as such not even the full population of this board (that's the whole 1,762 strong of us) would be enough to convince the mass market that Minimates truly are an up-and-coming new force in the toy market. Believe me, I've been through that phase. "Why can't DST produce more of our most-needed characters?" "Why can't we get Minimates of this license or that license?" "Why can't we ever get blank Minimates/accessory packs/decent vehicles/civilians at retail?" "Why won't my comic shop/Toys R Us/whathaveyou carry Minimates?" "Why won't DST stop making all these ridiculously hard-to-find exclusives?" "When will people stop supporting all these silly Superhero Squad ripoffs and just realize that Minimates are the superior mini figure???" Shockingly enough I got something of a wake-up call after reading this blog entry about our local toy industry. It made me realize and appreciate that selling/making toys is a very complex business, and it is not as simple as it looks. I know it may sound like I'm kissing up to DST or something. But seriously, despite everything I'm still infinitely grateful that we still get to have such an amazingly cool little toy line on our hands, and a "relatively" down-to-earth company backing them. I say this because I keep reminding myself that for all the crud we may be putting up with now, things could always get worse. For one thing, Minimates could wind up just like Palisades. Or Xevoz. Or Stikfas. :nopity:
  7. That Doctor Who hint? Red herring. Definitely a red herring. A bunch of red herring-sowing sadists, they are. For me the biggest thing to take away from this Q&A was that apparently response to the Pirates mates at Toy Fair had been positive. (I think.) That's good to hear. Also, I never realized that Tony's new Heroic Age look was literally called the Bleeding Edge armor. Huh.
  8. Wow... I'm sorry for not speaking up earlier, I was just drooling from all the custom Minimate awesomeness in this thread Am really loving your Alpha Flight customs, Psyguy! There's something about their simplicity of execution that makes them elegant in their own way. I wouldn't mind at all if DST gave us this team in your style
  9. Heh, that Mera quick custom recipe works surprisingly well. Cool seeing you experiment with different stuff Chaz!
  10. If there's any consolation JP, I know exactly how you feel re: insanely nebulous thread systems for toy news in general. I swear, I may not be an IT geek but the dynamics of sharing information on a Web 2.0 platform can be bloody fascinating at times. As a semi-frequent lurker on the Fwoosh I see what you mean about the counter-productive hugeness of their "pinned threads." I find it funny that their "broad strokes" system still pales in comparison to good old-fashioned human attention to detail, as your Hisstank example demonstrates. Now not to toot my own horn, but as someone who's accomplished waaaaaaaaaaay too much comprehensive trawling of this board in such a short number of years, I've had moments when I seriously considered volunteering to moderate full-time on the Multiverse. Hey, I visit the site daily anyway, I love the hobby and I practically read damn near everything... How hard can it be?* *Cue a horrified "Don't say that!!!" from Richard Hammond somewhere
  11. Unfortunately I second the massive mind screw the "General Discussion"-type threads have become. This didn't just start with the Iron Man 2 threads either; I mentioned a similar thing happening with the Ghostbusters thread and a similar concern had been voiced as early as the BSG-TRU comeback thread last year. Something like this year's Toy Fair thread might be a step in the right direction, if only because despite the crazy length of the thread it at least still makes an effort to stay easy to follow. Minor things like the thread-starter keeping track enough of the discussion progress to start up a little "news index" in the first post and "updating" the subtitle can go a surprisingly long way. But seeing as even the mods can have a lot on their plate when it comes to thread clustersmurfs like these, perhaps I can volunteer to "moderate" of sorts this year's SDCC thread like the Toy Fair one?
  12. Aha! A gaggle of Linkara fans in a thread! I love you. Funny thing was that right after this set was announced I had this bizarre compulsion to watch his Cable #1 review one more time. Again, Rob Liefeld = Gurgh.
  13. I may be mistaken, but I do remember the two Dark Avengers sets Champions (AFX) Thunderbolts (AFX) Wolverine Through The Ages (not a con exclusive though) Terminator 2 Cyberdyne Assault and a bunch of Minimate keychains and promo blanks. I think there may have also been a Ghostbusters exclusive 2-pack somewhere, though I can't remember which one that was anymore. (correction: it was this one)
  14. Gurgh, they weren't kidding about the nineties look on that set I think the saddest part about this whole episode is that for the most part, Domino and Deadpool do look comic-accurate. God, Liefeld was such a wanker. Interesting to note that the Ghostbusters exclusive is one of the few boxsets where we can actually get all of the Ghostbusters in one swipe.
  15. I'm open to most of Trekker's choices with the exception maybe of Abrams and Nolan. This is just my personal opinion, but J.J. Abrams strikes me as more of a sci-fi kind of guy. Not that I'm knocking his style, and not that I'm saying speculative fiction cinema is a very inflexible niche, but you just know somebody's gonna sneak in a "Fantasy fiction WITH LEEENS FLAAAAAAAAARE" gag in there somewhere Nolan... I haven't seen enough of his work to gauge how suitable he may be for the material. So far it's only The Prestige that gives me enough hope that he may stand a chance at it. Still, too soon to tell. In any case it appears both guys already have their plates full with future projects, so only time will tell if this adaptation will still stand a chance at getting a good enough director. As for my own hypothetical suggestions, the only guys who immediately comes to mind for me are either Alfonso Cuaron or Timur Bekmambetov. (Don't dismiss him just because he's one of "Burton's boys" and he directed that silly Wanted adaptation. Seriously, watch his films Nochnoi Dozor and Dnevnoi Dozor. They're both adaptations of this Russian urban fantasy series, and canon drift aside it's pretty compelling stuff.)
  16. Your Medusa art is quite neat indeed I certainly wouldn't be averse to DST making the mate of her look just like your design. To pipe in on how to execute her hair, a bendy pieve kinda like Mr. Fantastic's arms would be cool though for some reason I doubt DST would possess the "tech" necessary to make it feasible. Suggestions 1 and 2 might be slightly more likely, though with #2 I think it'd be more plausible to just outright make whole new hair sculpts with the requisite alternate poses to maximize Medusa's "display options." Just my two cents
  17. Much congratulations gambitron! Here's wishing your family and your new baby girl all the best!
  18. I'm forgetting the movie again, but is it possible that it's an overcoat for Dana?
  19. They're just talking about the quality control issues that set's had lately. Don't feel too bad.
  20. Awww I'm flattered TBT! Anyways this looks like the old thread where these where first brought up. Cappy mentioned something about their accessories being in scale with Minimates somehow. I'd be interested in seeing this in action!
  21. I think we may have just hit critical mass with the liberal wish-listing in this thread, so I'll just say any set that'll get us more new, unique characters is fine by me! Though if DST Chuck's Inhumans tip is anything to go by... Nothing yet according to my search-fu. Correction: seems we've discussed this once (albeit tangentially) in this thread.
  22. I've considered investing in a Lego set for my 'mates once or twice, though to me the biggest consideration had always been the price (they don't exactly go for peanuts ) and scale (Minimates are generally taller than Lego minifigs, and might not be fully compatible with the sets). As a general rule the block system most naturally compatible with 'mates would be of course the defunct C3 line, followed very narrowly by Mega Bloks (YMMV on the quality of these though). We also have this thread for general discussion on Minimate-compatible displays, accessories and the like.
  23. Really nice, crisp pictures of your set-up! Though I predict you might be needing a LOT more extra shelf space in a while
  24. Yeah, honestly I've always noticed that as well. I'd hate to imagine this turning into some sort of slow and steady dip in quality as a side effect of DST's big push for putting out loads of Minimate product in recent months. (There was also that thing before about certain chemicals in the plastic getting phased out for being potentially harmful to kids, though I don't know how much this applies to the early Marvel waves.)
  25. Hey, glad to see you join up fnwebslinger! axilog14 from the PTK boards here, and yes, this is where a lot of Minimate action happens Do forgive the random shenanigans though
