  1. I just talked about this recently over in the Minimates thread at Action Figure Insider. My dream box set (easily) is the Squadron Supreme: -Hyperion; -Nighthawk; -Spectrum -and either Power Princess or the Whizzer (I waffle as to which I want more). To me, this is exactly the type of set that should be made as a con or AFX exclusive: characters that aren't popular enough to warrant a regular release, but that still deserve to be made. So those of us that love the Squadron will be thrilled, and those that don't can feel justified in skipping the set. Every time I see an exclusive set with a Wolverine or Spider-Man in it, it just seems like a wasted opportunity to me.
  2. My comics shop only got the Wolvie 'mates in as well. With several of us reporting this, I think that Wave 25 may not have shipped in full this week. Why would shops have ordered Wave 26 but "forgot" to order Wave 25 at the exact same time?
  3. Thanks for the report. My biggest worry is that the shoulder pads might look ridiculously big on a Minimate body. But I think it's worth trying.
  4. I've actually only seen one once, in a Target a month or so ago. I immediately thought about doing this (I had just done the Black Manta custom, and was looking for similar projects), but I didn't pull the trigger. The reason I bring this up now is that it dawned on me that the gloves, boots, and belt that come with Lex Luthor would be perfect for Mr. Freeze. They are available at TRU.com, so I would assume they can be found in their stores as well. Looking at the photo, I would think that the head doesn't come out, so that you would just use that head. Looks like the shoulders, helmet, and head are all one piece. The Superman figure they released in this line also came with a domed helmet, and though it doesn't quite say "Mr. Freeze", I just tried it out and it does fit pretty perfectly on a Minimate. It doesn't stay, and it has a big hook attachment that you'd have to lop off, but it fits. If all else fails, I'll probably just use that (the Spectre's head, by the way, makes for a fine Freeze head, and a BSG Razor Cylon gun makes for a fine freeze gun).
  5. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried to customize the Imaginext Mr. Freeze into a Minimate Mr. Freeze, using basically the same method as the custom Black Manta (IE: lopping the head off a Manta Pocket Hero and putting it on a Minimate body). I've been thinking of trying it, and I think it will work, but I'm not sure how easy it would be. Does the Freeze helmet detach easily? Does the head look too big on a Minimate body? By the way, here's the figure in question: Imaginext Mr. Freeze
  6. I think it is an inference based on the fact that seem to constantly have some product focused on the mini-collectibles market, and have moved from Minimates to these. That, and there was talk that was (I believe) being passed on at the con circuit last year that DC was developing its' own in-house line of mini-figures. I don't believe there's a quote from Georg Brewer confirming that, though.
  7. If they are indeed canceled, it will be a huge disappointment. What happened to "it was an honor to work on these", guys?!?!?!?!
  8. It's funny, but this new box set has killed any enthusiasm I had for the first one. Though Wolverine looks nice as an update on the brown costume; should be easy to create a perfect brown Wolvie from the two. Iron Patriot and Marvel Boy are just okay, and Spider-Man is just flat out weak. Has this set become a pass?
  9. These things leave me speechless. Though I did have the same thought that MoC did.
  10. I have a feeling that we are going to see some of the Brand New Day characters here-- unfortunately. Jackpot, Menace (that's his/her name, right?), or Anti-Venom. Hopefully they will be packaged together and easy to skip. But we're getting three of the Spidey characters that I really wanted (Electro, Scorpion, and Spider-Girl), so I really can't complain. Much, anyway.
  11. I'm really glad they are finally making Spider-Girl. It seems like such a no-brainer, I can't believe they haven't done so yet. I mean, we get a new character, they get another Spidey figure. Win-win. Anyway, May is a great character, and I'm glad to finally get her in 'mate form. Here's hoping she and HOM Spidey are the variant pairing, so I won't have to buy HOM Spidey!
  12. Yeah, the only real good thing about this is the promise of another Spidey villain. Electro, Lizard, Vulture, Scorpion... they're all good. But listen here, DST: No Jackpot! Stick to the classics!
  13. Wow, DST, you guys have really outdid yourselves. Panther and Moon Knight were worth the wait. It's official: Minimates are the best toys ever!
  14. Moon Knight! Yay! So far, they've knocked two 'mates off my top ten most wanted. Luke has it right; I can suffer through endless Spideys, Wolverines, ect, if it means we get the smaller guys (although Black Panther and Moon Knight are both supporting their own series right now, so they're not exactly obscure-os). Come on guys, Captain Marvel for the win!
  15. Whoa, I completely mistyped that. Strucker, of course, founded Hydra. Man, I even had Drinky Crow catch me on my mistake! How embarrassing!
  16. I'm not sure that it's fair to say that people are sick of those mates; I suspect that some of them just happen to be extras acquired while buying a pack a second time to customize. For example, I have an extra Star Sapphire because I bought a second pack to make a Hal Jordan, and to have an extra GL body (which turned out to be Abin Sur). But a 'mate like Star Sapphire is almost useless for customizing-- although I just realized last week that she and the SA Brainiac are wearing essentially the same costume. That said, here are the things I'm sick of in particular: 1. Battle damaged Minimates: I just don't like 'em, and they are almost useless for customizing parts. The DC ones bug me especially, since those spots could have gone to deserving characters (like Two-Face!) that didn't get made. 2. BSG Minimates: I have probably broken apart more BSG 'mates for customs then anything else. It's funny, because I think they are pretty nice overall, but many of the faces were so far off the actors' likenesses that I have no problem subbing their heads. Unfortunately, the rest of the bodies are almost useless (for the military ones at least), leaving me with lots of headless uniforms.
  17. And that is why I rarely make Marvel customs, unless I think there's little to no chance of an official version coming down the pipe (like the Son of Satan one I'm working on now). Let this me a lesson to you, customizers! Make DC customs! You know those won't be replaced.... Nope, neither one did (that I know of). I would think that Storm and BP will be paired together, but since Storm's wearing an old X-Men costume, who knows. I think this might be a "most wanted" type of wave: Storm with Mr. Sinister, BP with Kang, Captain Marvel with Hydra (even though there's no connection there) with Genis being the variant. That would be a pretty good wave.
  18. Yeah, the two don't really have anything to do with each other. The Spirit is owned entirely by the estate of his creator, Will Eisner. DC is just the publisher. Please don't start threads with titles like this unless you have actual info on the return of DC Minimates!!!!!
  19. Thanks for the info, Matt. I guess Storm was the 'mate of choice for those dastardly individuals, and that's why she's the only one that seems greatly effected.
  20. So we all know that somehow Storm has fallen back to the pack when it looked like she was going to be a lock for the Secret Wars box set. Anyway, I was reading Minimate Headquarters when I noticed... something. Drgnbrn316 posted an update on April 28th with the current standings. Note Storm's vote count: Which character you would like to see in the Secret Wars Minimates box set? * Ben Grimm (4%, 55 Votes) * Beyonder (12%, 148 Votes) * Beyonder (Energy Form) (6%, 73 Votes) * Captain Marvel (16%, 205 Votes) * Captain Marvel (Energy Form) (2%, 24 Votes) * Dr Doom (10%, 119 Votes) * Molecule Man (13%, 161 Votes) * Spider-Woman (9%, 112 Votes) * Storm (15%, 185 Votes) * Symbiote Bond Spider-Man (13%, 164 Votes) Total Voters: 1,246 185 votes, right? So here's how things stand as of now: Which character you would like to see in the Secret Wars Minimates box set? * Ben Grimm (4%, 58 Votes) * Beyonder (13%, 178 Votes) * Beyonder (Energy Form) (6%, 78 Votes) * Captain Marvel (16%, 213 Votes) * Captain Marvel (Energy Form) (2%, 24 Votes) * Dr Doom (10%, 140 Votes) * Molecule Man (13%, 179 Votes) * Spider-Woman (9%, 115 Votes) * Storm (13%, 180 Votes) * Symbiote Bond Spider-Man (14%, 185 Votes) Total Voters: 1,350 180 votes! And I know for a fact that she was at only 177 earlier today, because I voted for her and pushed her up to 178! So what the heck is going on? How did Storm end up loosing at least eight votes in the 100+ votes that have been made from April 28th-May 1st? I call shenanigans!
  21. I just have mine in these little utility cases that I got at Wal-Mart. They work great, kind of like the old collectors cases they used to make for GI Joe, Super Powers, and the like. The only problem is that they have apparently stopped making the ones that I like, so I'm running on borrowed time....
  22. I would be stunned if the Black Panther is not in this wave. He is (arguably) the biggest name not to be made into a Minimate; also, he's got a cartoon coming out on BET and Marvel has been trying to push the character as much as possible. I just hope he's in his Kirby-style costume.
  23. I told my wife the other day to vote for the Molecule Man, but I don't think she did so yet. Now I have to tell her to vote for Storm.... EDIT: I just went to check the poll, and I dunno why, but it allowed me to vote again! So I voted for Storm this time, and she's now in a three way tie with the Molecule Man and the Beyonder. Spidey is about seven votes ahead of them.
