  1. I remember buying Phantom Menace figures at Sears (15 years ago!). This was before Marvel Legends, before I understood the horrors of being a collector. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the last time I've been to a Sears was like two years ago, because I needed to use a bathroom.
  2. Although I would love to get four new unique female characters, I would certainly not be opposed to getting the Stepford Cuckoos. I'm all for unreleased modern X-Men characters. Based on the hints, I'd be happy with either characters that complete teams/sets or new modern characters. I'd be disappointed if we got a bunch of random versions of characters that don't fit into teams we already have. On a selfish note, I also hope we don't get 90's X-Factor because they have zero sentimental value to me. One issue with the modern X-Men is that they change costumes faster than X-themed Minimates get released. :-/
  3. This was exactly my thought. I had almost convinced myself to buy a full case to ensure that I'll get Mutagen Mike, because I thought he was going to be the only rare. My assumption was there'd be a new mutagen turtle per wave so I'd just buy a case per wave. Now that every outlet has their own blind-boxed!! exclusive, I'm just going to save my monies and not even attempt getting the variants, which means there's no longer a reason to buy a case. My math/stats is pretty rusty, but by my calculations I'd have to buy at least 12 packs just to have a 50% chance of one of those packs containing a 1/18 figure. Disclaimer: This is assuming all samples are independent, which I don't think holds true if you buy all your individual figures from the same box. I'm likely going the pure eBay route for this series. Whether I end up getting the mutagen variants will depend on the secondary market prices.
  4. Waaaaaait, when did all these different retailers start getting different "Mutagen" variants? I thought there was just going to be the one Michelangelo for this wave. Kmart and Sears are getting an exclusive character?? Those stores don't even exist where I live! Collecting this line is going to be a bigger headache than I thought -- maybe I should just skip getting the Mutagen variants altogether.
  5. I definitely have mixed feelings. I'm glad to finally see new comic Marvel Minimates after so much movie stuff. But as far as I can tell, we're literally only getting one new character out of eight spots. And that makes me sad.
  6. After seeing everyone's displays, I had to do my own. Here's hoping for more box sets!
  7. I've never played Pathfinder or Mass Effect, but I'm excited to get Fantasy and Scifi Fantasy Minimates. Eagerly awaiting the four two-packs in the mail!
  8. Based on the style of the Munchkin card game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munchkin_(card_game)#Munchkin_Pathfinder
  9. Dang I don't even know what Pathfinder is and I want these!
  10. Hmm, can someone clarify something for me? Is it actually true that likeness rights are not needed because of the lack of noses on Minimates? And theoretically it's possble for DST to release Minimate heads of any person (to the best approximation) they'd like without needing permission? This is just out of curiosity -- I'm not asking whether it makes fiscal sense for DST to do so or not.
  11. Do we know whether NBX will eventually be, say, a couple box sets or a full blown series (not sure if there's enough characters to do multiple waves). I may get them if it's just one or two box sets just because I like Minimates in general, but if it's an entire line of 'mates I may just skip them altogether. I guess it'll depend on how "cool" it looks, otherwise the property itself doesn't excite me.
  12. Thanks for taking the time to take the turtles apart, youbastards. I got a pair of the turtles and they look really cool (thanks Zach, for the Leo). So glad that the nunchuks have metal chains. I'm wondering what the sculpted heads would've looked like, but I think the cylindrical heads still look great.
  13. Gamora wouldn't have been the exclusive. The figure packaged w/her could have been perhaps. Yup!
  14. I'm a nigh-Marvel-Minimates-completist, so I would be likely to subscribe to such a thing. I wonder what it would take to make a subscription viable. Despite being a Ghostbusters fan and a DCUC collector, I never subscribed to the Matty's respective subscriptions. Each month, with tax and shipping, a figure would come out to almost $30. Tough for me to justify. I wonder what the upper limit for a 2-pack minimate would be for me. If I could get a 2-pack for $15 shipped, I would do it. Another hurdle for the Matty subscription is that because it is a subscription, you'd be lock in for an entire year of $30 figures (6 or 12 of them depending on the line). Would it be possible for Minimates simply to survive on preorders on a month to month basis? Minimates would be designed (maybe even purely only in design sheets), but would only get produced if they reached a prepaid preorder of 1500 units, for example. I don't actually know what the production size needs to be to be worth it. And designs wouldn't necessarily go to waste, because there is an ongoing Marvel Minimates line, which a few unproduced stragglers could sneak into.
  15. But with only three sets at TRU, that's makes Rocket's micromate status even more pivotal. Had they made him full-sized one of those even more precious spots would have taken with an over-sized rodent. That said, as someone growing more and more frustrated with these one-and-done movie series, I feel your pain. What I don't understand is why TRU just didn't have a 2nd exclusive set with Gamora and an exclusive figure (e.g., the Collector). That way kids could, you know, actually complete the team just by going to TRU.... *rabble rabble* female characters don't sell *rabble rabble*. They could've paired her with Groot & Rocket and have Drax pair with the exclusive. It just makes too much sense!
  16. I never particularly cared for TNBC, so all this speculation that it's TNBC makes me nervous.
  17. I would love a complete set of The Man With No Name boxsets... if I didn't have to resort to ebay prices. I started collecting Minimates after those had been released.
  18. I'd be excited for Game of Thrones or Buffy. Everything else sounds kinda meh to me.
  19. BAF only really makes sense to me if it allows us to get larger figures. Or if we're one character shy of completing a team, and it's a way to sneak in an extra 'mate.
  20. Nice! I'm just glad the exclusive is not another Deadpool set or a Wolverine through the Ages type set. As others have mentioned, it would be nice if the Minimates were a tad more accurate, but I like the DofP theme.
  21. I've been refraining to get too involved in these discussions, but oh well here I go anyway. Given a choice, as a collector, I would definitely prefer NOT to have blind bags. That said, I understand why, from a business point of view, DST would go with the blind bag route. Larger distribution and a potential to attract new customers with the "gambling" aspect. I've said before I also like to buy the occasional blind bag of some random line just to see what I get. In the long run, if this manages to increase the customer base for minimates, it *should* be good for all of us. And, having said *that*, this absolutely affects current collectors, unless you can guarantee me a way to get a set of 8 TMNT mates at the price of four standard 2-packs that I can preorder from online retailers (e.g., Luke's, BBTS). Yes, I *can* get a complete set of blind-bagged minimates, but it will definitely cost me significantly more money/time, and that is why I'd prefer not to have blind bags. And, having said *that* I will accept blind bags as a necessary evil if it means more minimates that would not otherwise have been made.
