  1. I got 3 Modern Cylons, because that's all my comic shop had left (they are big fans). I'm midly inclined to pick up a case of Classic Cylons, but am mostly broke, and (truth be told) BSG was nice, but I wasn't into it. Not my thing. The new stuff doesn't do anything for me. But these guys are pretty cool - nice job Matt (now when can we talk Daggit?)
  2. I think AA/DST have proven that TOS is the best place to start with. It is the (arguably) most iconic, so it helps to build the fanbase before moving on to other properties. It makes sense. DST is even going back to TOS with TWOK, more than likely to help re-establish the base before moving on to DS9 (at least that is what it looks like to me). Then again, I'm afraid to build an argument on anything in the toy industry, as shaky as it is right now.
  3. Star Wars isn't a bad call at all... (jokingly sets self up for flaming) after all, Medicom already did it This is probably just desire on my part, but the more I say "Pirates" the better it sounds. Zizzle comes out of obscurity and is making good. It is going to be a massive deal this summer, even amongst the other giants like Spider-Man and Shrek - it is one of the movies everybody is going to see. It feels right - nice assortment of cast, plenty of Jack variants (as NECA is proving). I'd love to see Pirates Minimates go the distance, but I'm a hopeless dreamer with nothing but an army of Orcs to show for it. I see DSTMatt is scoping this thread out... how's it going? One last thought: I wish DST would do a 'guess the license' contest again. I won a sweet bust when they did that for Army of Darkness
  4. VINA VINA VINA! Look great Can't wait "these 2" Minimates will be in scale with all past releases" - then they'll be 3"? OK, I guess it is officially time for me to give up on the 3" scale (except for DCD doing it for the bigguns). Goodbye little minimate thumbs... I'll miss ya. *pours out 3" of a 40 on the ground*
  5. Just had to laugh at the irony of a few Minimate collectors thinking SS look funny. One of my friends bought me the Cap/Hawkeye set. They are pretty cool. Very smooth. Not overboard, but mostly balanced. Tempted to buy more. Saw the Ghost Rider/Punisher set and had to laugh; Punisher had a bazooka - because bazooka's are more appropriate for little children than regular guns Just one important thing to note: Hawkeye and Thor right off the bat. I'm just sayin'.
  6. Yeah, but Cat-Man is the baby-daddy.
  7. Akira Minimates wouldn't go amiss but unfortunately as far as i'm aware they already exist as a Kubrick line Doesn't that make it MORE likely to be a minimate? (Cereal, Rocky, DC, et al) Unfortunately though if an Akira Minimates line was given the go ahead i doubt that we would get bikes which is to me an important part of Akira, especially Kaneda's... Not necessarily - that stipulation is limited to the Marvel/DST agreement; This would be a new deal, with anything possible.
  8. Shovels! My only criticism is the absence of the 'Caretaker' character in his "old west Ghost Rider" guise... unless that be some surprise for later. But who cares, it's Sam Elliott! Ups to DST for getting these out when there is some visibility (if they pull it off). As an aside: Logic would suggest that the wave after would take advantage of another film, but the cast for SM3 and FF2 are both done; maybe that will be the time for the fabled 'classic' wave to come out.

  10. QFT It's pretty slick. Heck, PALz managed to shrink their base size down for a figure. It's a neat visual. But I can appreciate that it will cause a rift between the Marvel and DC offerings (something DST fought against), but it isn't a deal breaker with me, and I doubt anyone will avoid the DCD 'mates because of the issue.
  11. Emerald City Comicon - blue Emerald City Comicon - green Morrigan
  12. Toynami plans on releasing more Futurama stuff (including I-Men) in 2007. Can't remember where, but there was some news about this recently.
  13. 5. Ring 4. Little 3. Middle 2. Index 1. Thumb
  14. To be fair, Dragon's minis were near the end of their life before minimates ever showed up. They have stronger ties to Playmobil. Just wish I could find the remaining Biohazard/Resident Evil figures from the line. Lots of accessories. They did 4 others. Here is Chris and Claire and Chris and Claire: The full range of Dragon Mini's: http://www.dragonmodelsltd.com/html/minis-2.html
  15. Just got 'the list' from my Fine Local Comic Shoppe: BSG MODERN CYLON MINIMATE ASST (C: 0-1-4) My hunch is that classic should be shipping this week too, but my store only picked up the modern stuff because they are all ga-ga for the modern series. Check with your shop; East coast will likely be getting them next week.
  16. Are you talking about the Myclone Micronauts? I was surprised to run across this auction this morning. Admittedly I don't run in the Micronaut circles, so you may be referring to some other minis, but I thought I throw that link out there. And Alpheon, Google and Wikipedia have links to vast repositories of information you might find useful. I think he is referring to the Nanomen Micronauts (since the MyClones were of Henshin Cyborg/Microman. Although the same toys, Microman and Micronauts have their own stories to go with them (Marvel published a long run of comics to go with Micronauts)
  17. I might have... don't remember. I know that many people did in the early waves.
  18. Had a blast with both games. You can get both super-cheap, and they have tons of replay value.

  20. I've found that I have one set of minimates for display/posing and another to play with (of my favorite characters).
  21. My name is Kirby. I haven't had an avatar in a long time. I can't find anything that really 'fits'
  22. As a longtime MMO gamer, I've thought about this one a lot. Many gamers would go for something along this line, but Everquest, Ultima Online, and WoW have all had figures, and I'm one of the few who bought them. Those figures haven't been big retail successes, and that becomes a strike against 'mates for the genre. Personally, I'm working on a project (you should see it at the next custom con) that more-or-less presents itself as a kit to make your own character, but is just for my guild. The biggest problem (I've talked with players in different forums for these games) is that it quickly turns into a HUGE "but" fest - But my character has pink armor, but my avatar has blue armor, but my toon doesn't use that bow, and so on. The consensus is that people are interested in THEIR characters most of all - and even with a series of kits, most people would never be satisfied enough to warrant a purchase. A service that did custom figures might fly. Some sales would still be feasible. I could have sworn we've had this discussion before... it is still a cool idea, but it would be a tough (+2) sell.
  23. Hit up EMP (Experience Music Project) and the Sci-Fi Museum; take a whole day - it is a lot of fun. That's all I got - I'm a south-sounder, and I don't go to Seattle much.

    PALz

"Ditto" to Cappy's statements. A lot of the things that people want from Minimates were done with PALz. Palisades listened. They did a lot of things right, especially accessories. I thought the PALz design is pretty solid (even the square-hands) and brough some innovation. The quality could have been better, but that didn't prevent me from continuing. I have most the Buffy PALz, and the first wave of X-Files. I kind of missed the boat on X-F2 and Die Hard, but hope to pick them up someday. Also, FYI - PALz will live on (sorta) via kockBLOCKerz
