  1. This, along with the Giant Man and Wasp we're also getting, seems to indicate that there may be a second Avengers wave coming after the many series on the horizon. Think about it, we've seen Giant Man and Wasp (well, part of her), now these two and there are two major Avengers missing from the last wave, namely Hawkeye and Vision. I'm not basing this on anything more than conjecture, but I can't imagine them releasing zombie versions of characters we have yet to see normal versions of then leaving us hanging. Well, I CAN imagine that, but it would be incredibly dumb to make that move. Thoughts?
  2. I see where you're coming from, and can relate as I've had some things that I paid more for end up being made available en masse to those who didn't bother the first time, I think it just comes down to of all the variants released, this one is the only one that is really questionable, as it represents a core part of Spider-Man's history and making it a variant, and so early on in the line as well, has been a problem for those who didn't get one and/or don't want to pay a premium for one. I keep an eye out via ebay for them but as much as I'd like one, I have a limit how much I'm going to pay for one single mate. Worst case scenario I'll just use the movie version, basically I guess my point is that it's a shame how hard it is and that unless they do release a new version of the look a lot of people won't get what appears to be a great mate.
  3. That's the Sub Mariner all right, sweet. It always pleases me to see them make characters that are not only long requested but also with such a deep history in the Marvel Universe, the more big names that get out, the more we can hopefully begin to focus on lesser known characters. My sympathies do go out to those who wanted the green speedo version of the man, even though I like this look more myself, but at least we're getting him, I remember at one point DST said he was a character they didn't know what to do with. I'm glad they thought of something.
  4. One thing I've read more than once in this topic that I find very puzzling is the explanation for why Spider-Man's second most famous look(after the red and blue of course) was a variant at all is because "they had no way of knowing it'd last this long." Umm, all right, but that doesn't really hold water since they released a hugely popular and famous costume as a variant but then released that preposterous Peter Parker/Spider-Man mate that was split down the middle as a regular release. Just call the decision what it is, a move used to generate interest in the line that has since somewhat backfired, at least in the sense that I believe DST knows how many people want one but are stuck because they vowed never to rerelease variants. And to those who say they'd stop collecting if DST ever rereleases it, I have to say that seems like a petty reason to abandon a line you enjoy. And as far as Stealth Iron Man goes, I'm in the same boat as whoever said that mate was the first time they'd ever even seen that look. I never bought him when he came out, and don't intend to, it just doesn't interest me. But it's funny you mention him because earlier in this thread I said something about how ridiculous it was we were getting melee Black Suit Spidey, who is a variation of a very hard to find variant, and that it was the equivalent of releasing battle damaged stealth Iron Man. Basically, my point comes down to if they're never going to release a version of the comic black suit for mass retail, then releasing a variant of it is pointless, as I can't think of what you can possibly do with it if you're without the solid black suit look. What would people do with Battle Damaged Stealth Iron Man without an undamaged one?
  5. Well out of the waves that have been released (considering some of the future ones may force me to change my vote) I'd have to say Wave 10, the Spider-Man wave for a couple of reasons. It gave us a lot of new Spider-Man characters, some of whom were more obscure, which at the time led me to believe more mainstream ones were headed our way. That didn't exactly happen, but I'm still glad we got these guys, as big names sell themselves, but obscure ones don't always do as well. Plus, personally I liked that the chase was a whole other character. I know it's kind of a hassle to get but at the same time I usually don't get too excited for the chases unless it's something that really intrigues me, like Raft Sentry, and honestly, if they hadn't released her this way I doubt we would have ever gotten Spider-Woman II. They could make a U.S. Agent with just a new coat of paint, and we still haven't seen him although he's apparently been discussed as a retailer exclusive or something, but that's just talk until he's actually out there. So all in all I was pleased with this wave, although I reserve the right to revisit my answer when the future waves come out.
  6. I have to say I'm surprised that I've seen Hobgoblin and Kaine's names a few times, I think they are the two Spider-Man villains with the most potential as they haven't been used very much. If I ever became a writer for Spider-Man I'd bring both back in a heartbeat, so I'd love to get 'mates of them, though I think Hobogblin is far more likely as he was featured on that poster way back when. As far as army builders go, I'm in the same boat as boyd, I'd buy a case of them, although I'd be more into Hydra and the Hellfire club than the aliens, although I'd pick up a couple of Skrulls. Has anyone ever asked DST about the possibility of this? Considering it'd be attractive with one mold and multiple purchases, seems like a good idea to me. They wouldn't even have to make new molds for some of them....
  7. Wow, I thought people had lost interest in this thread then I come back and it has swollen to two pages. I understand completely where the people who have the first black Spider-Man are coming from, I listen to fairly obscure music and have to import a lot of CDs, and I buy singles to get the B-Sides, and after the shipping it ends up costing almost as much as an album, but I'm a fan and it's worth it. At least until they rerelease the album with those B-sides for just a few bucks more. It's annoying because you think of all the money you could have saved had you known, so I can relate to the idea of "I like being one of the few." The thing I find curious is them releasing a version of a variant, it'd be like them releasing battle damaged Stealth Iron Man. I just think it would make sense for them to change the detailing or shade so that people who never got one can have one, and people who got the first one still have the rarer version, but in the end I'd rather get more Spidey villains or something than a new black suited one, worst case scenario I'll just use the movie version and only use the melee one for.....something I'll think of eventually.
  8. So far the lead choices are Ultron and Kang who have both been picked five times, followed by Red Skull with four and Abomination with three. I'm more a Spider-Man and X-Men fan but I'd definitely like to see those all made, I only hesitated in including a Spider-Man villain as I still feel like someday we might see a Sinister Six box set. I'd push old people down flights of stairs for a Sinister Six box set....
  9. If they decided to release an all villain wave to beef up the ranks of the evildoers of the Marvel universe, what six characters plus variant would you most want to see? In the interest of diversity, I'll try and avoid more than one Spider-Man villain or X-men, you get the idea. Mine would be... 1. Abomination & The Mandarin. 2. Pyro & Dormammu. 3. Red Skull & Baron Zemo. Variant- Heinrich Zemo. (Runners up were Mysterio, Annhiulus, Purple Man, Kang and Mister Sinister. Sinister only got bumped because I thought he'd be perfect to pair with Gambit some day...) I personally think this would be a great move and would sell, as villains are often more visually exciting, and as we have gotten far more heroes than villains in the past there are several big name villains they could make to counteract the heroes, as we're getting closer and closer to having most of the Marvel big names once Thor and Dr. Strange are released(I'm counting those who have had their own titles.) Anyway, what do you guys think? P.S. Am I the only one who's surprised we've never gotten a U.S. Agent, since he's one paint job away from release now that we've gotten Captain America?
  10. There's nothing wrong with the Spider-Man 3 version of the black suit, my point was simply that if few people had the original black suit version, the melee black suit mate that's forthcoming in the box set is rather superfluous, it's like using battle damaged Spider-Man as your regular Spider-Man, you can but it doesn't make much sense...
  11. Giant Man's inclusion in this set along with the Wasp's head as an accessory tells me that there almost has to be a normal versions two pack on the horizon, as I don't see them going to the trouble and opening the fanboy Pandora's Box if they didn't have one in the pipeline. I don't know if there will be a whole other Avengers wave so soon after the first, but if they go back to waves without themes I suspect we'll see these two from before people's skin became a major food source...
  12. As the release of the new waves of Spider-Man mates is hopefully fast approaching I thought I'd touch on a topic that has been bugging me. The melee symbiote suit Spider-Man, with the partially on or torn up version of the black suit. Nothing's wrong with the figure, it can be used for either battle damage or to simulate the bonding of Peter Parker with the symbiote, both of which are viable, but here's the problem: How many people, especially after all the time that has passed, have regular black suit Spider-Man? I don't, and I started collecting early on, as they were rare even then. If you don't have the finished black suit, what good is a torn one? I think the only solution would be to release a new comic version black suit, different enough in design or paint aps to not offend those who shelled out top dollar for one in the past. But do you think they would, or would they see the black suit as a literal "been there, done that?"
  13. I can think of hundreds of characters I'd like to see, they could make Paste Pot Pete and I'd buy him, although if he hit the shelves before some more major characters I wouldn't be too thrilled, but I digress. I thought about it and I came up with a list of a couple of characters I'd really like to see that may not be on the horizon any time soon, which is why people like Hawkeye aren't present..... 1. Baron Zemo (classic villain, but not well known to average people, might be a hard sell) 2. Winter Soldier 3. Bucky 4. Mac Gargan Venom 5. Kaine 6. The Jackal(or a Clone Saga box set) 7. Demogoblin 8. Xorn (With removable helmet to reveal Magneto) 9. Multiple Man (I'll buy a dozen...or maybe a X-Factor box set) 10. Dark Beast I'm a big box set fan, as I think they're a great way to get characters out that normally wouldn't really have a place, such as the upcoming Hydro Man and a box set featuring the Sinister Six, or the New Thunderbolts, or the Clone Saga which would give us the long awaited Scarlet Spider would be awesome, and a great way to release more villains which we desperately need, but they need to have more than one exclusive character per box.
  14. I'm torn, I was sure I'd pick Quicksilver but now I think I'm going to have to go with New Goblin, just because Harry Osborn is so seldom represented in any form of Marvel toy line despite the huge place he holds in Spider-Man's life, so kudos AA for finally making one that is distinctly him.
  15. I just thought of another one, especially as they're just coming to prominence.....the New Thunderbolts. That's right, Sociopaths Inc. The way I see it, this gives them a chance to put out some characters that otherwise may never see the light of day, really beef up the villain ranks, and fix some mistakes made in the past. That's right I said it. I'd buy this set if for no other reason than to get a black Bullseye, but without further ado.... 1.Bullseye (Black!! Black!! He wears black not blue, I'm not whining about a missed detail, this outfit is flat out wrong!!) 2.Venom (Mac Gargan version) 3.Penance 4.Moonstone 5.Songbird 6.Radioactive Man Alternates: Swordsman or Green Goblin. The only downside to this is that if they made this set I doubt they'd ever make a Speedball, which would kind of suck as you need Speedball before you can get Penance unless you drastically omit parts of his character. Thoughts?
  16. I think Sinister Six is the best idea, the name is memorable and sounds cool to the average shopper(assuming it's released in stores) and the characters would fill some huge gaps in Spidey's rogues gallery. 1-Dr. Octopus (Suit version) 2-Mysterio 3-Vulture 4-Electro 5-Hobgoblin 6-Kraven I know Sandman was also a member the first two times but frankly after the movie waves and the new box set and Target sets he has been done to death and I don't really think there's anything more that can be done with him, short of making a version of him falling apart post Venom bite or the Sandman/Hydro-Man mud creature.....oh no I'm probably giving them ideas.....besides all that with as little as the Hobgoblin has been seen lately and the lack of impact made by any Kraven the Hunter in many years I feel this is our best chance to get them unless AA starts really trying to fill in the gaps in the next few waves.
  17. I'm sure Venom will look better when they finally are released, but I think part of it is the minimate style, Venom's look is harder to translate to a round flat surface as his teeth and mouth often come off looking flat to me. I've wondered what it would look like if they added a layer to his head to make it more distinctive and possibly capture his jaw the way it often appears somewhat elongated. Sort of like how they modified the C3 Martian Manhunter's brow. What do you guys think?
  18. It's one of those unfortunate things that doesn't really make a great deal of sense, especially now with the DC waves coming out it'll be harder to have some of the grudge matches many fans would love to have, for example Bane would look like a behemoth next to the Hulk even though he's clearly smaller in the comics. It's funny, because I can't figure why they're so hung up on soley 2 inches as I don't see them selling the rights to make 2.5 inchers to anyone anytime soon, but oh well, I'm not that worried about it, it's just puzzling.
  19. 10. Blockbuster 9. Manchester Black (longshot I know...) 8. Black Mask 7. Tim Drake Robin 6. Red Arrow/Arsenal 5. Superboy Prime 4. Red Robin 3. Two-Face 2. Scarecrow 1. Red Hood (Jason Todd) S: Black/Silver "Return of Superman" outfit or Clark Kent....ooh, or "Kingdom Come" or maybe Red/Blue....ARGH!!!! Whatever, package a new character in with these and I'll roll with them all. B: Batman Beyond
  20. Top 10: *Quicksilver *Scarlet Witch *Pyro *Multiple Man(single pack so multiples can be bought) *Xorn(with removable mask to reveal Magneto head) *Toad *Gambit *Havok *Angel(with Archangel variant) *Electro Spider-Man/Wolverine Variants: *Scarlet Spider * Age of Apocalypse Wolverine(with hand and alternate stump cover) Originally Thor and Loki had places until I realized that as much as people ask for them they'll get made sooner or later, so I figured the spaces would be better used on people that probably aren't on DST's top 10.
