  1. When I saw this, I also immediately thought "Why not Young Avengers?" But then I realized that kids only like bad things that are dumbed down and condescending. Right? Isn't that the idea that I'm supposed to get from most cartoons (both today and from my own youth in the 80s)? I guess the short answer is that I would not want 'Mates from this DVD. Besides, no hero should use Hulk as a role model.
  2. Watch out, everyone, Stark is back on the sauce!
  3. Heh, no need for the Valk head, you can just use Cain's head from BSG. :-) Personally, I'll probably buy multiples in order to make the alternate outfits from DS9 and movies. For a while, the TNG style uniforms were liberally mixed in with the first DS9 jumpsuits. Not to even mention the Tribbles episode of DS9. Personally, though, I'll have to do a quick one using a skirt to make that awesome miniskirt TNG uniform that was only in like two episodes. Male head is a must.
  4. Well, considering the smaller production run, and the many accessories that come with it, that price seems close to about right. Maybe a little on the high side, but I'd pay it to get one.
  5. For what it's worth, note that it's branded with Charm City Cakes, not Ace of Cakes. This indicates to me that Food Network is not involved in this in any way. (Which gels with the tale that TBT told.) At the very least, they can sell to us MiniMate fans. :-)
  6. The things being made into 'Mates just keeps getting odder and odder. I love it. I like the show, and think the guy is pretty funny. I was hoping there would also be a Mary Alice 'Mate, because she's so cool. I'd definitely pick up one of these if I can.
  7. I was all over these when Palisades put out the first Buffy line. Considering that every figure came with a flip-around head, alternate outfit, and a ton of accessories, they were pretty cool little dudes. However, the plastic they used was crap. Too brittle with no flexibility at all. Shirts and jackets were almost impossible to remove, and they were more apt to break. Not only that, but the "feel" of the plastic was cheaper than MiniMates or LEGO. They would have been better off saving on a couple of accessory molds and using better plastic. However, were they the first to do the build-a-figure concept? They started that with Buffy 2 and the Judge, and had planned on continuing with snake-mayor had series 3 come out. Did that pre-date the Marvel Legends BAF concept? Of course, then they went and blind-boxed. Yuck.
  8. Yeah, I thought that blind boxing them was dumb and goofy. I'd have likely picked some up if they hadn't done that. They would make for great Xmas tree ornaments.
  9. What's good about BSG is that a lot of the variations can be made with head-swaps. So if we get a two-pack with the gray/black "undershirts" it would be pretty simple to get Gaeta, Lee, Athena, etc in those. (Frankly I'm surprised they haven't re-used that tampo from the exclusive Starbuck.) I'd love to see some more of the Colonial uniforms with the blue/silver stripe. IIRC, that's the color worn by most of the cast (Dualla, Helo, Athena, etc). Also, didn't they incorrectly give Apollo the red stripe? Anyway, as much as I'd like New Caprica versions of characters, I think I'd rather see folks that have come into their own over the series. That would include Anders, Tory, Leoben/2, Cavil/1, Simon/4, and Doral/5. Sadly, that's already a whole wave (put in an Anders variant), though it would be something of a lame wave. I'd love to see a two-pack containing the undershirt look and the blue/silver stripe uniform. So I guess that's my wish list. :-) Oh, and also a patched-eye Tigh.
  10. MMMV Forum members are a bunch of enablers. Myself included: welcome back to collecting. ;-)
  11. WWE has recently released figures in the 3.75" scale (Build N' Brawlers). The first wave of them each came with a part of the ring (4 with connecting tiles, 1 with ropes and 1 with turnbuckles). It looks like the ring here is way too small for that scale, and probably too small for MiniMates, too, but I could be wrong: Article w/ pictures from TNI.
  12. Just coming in here to agree with everyone else. Saw it last night at a cool 8 PM showing (thanks, Drafthouse!), and it did indeed rock my socks off. I absolutely loved it, and also think that it's the best of the Marvel movies so far, and just a good movie in general. I wish I had known about the credits. I'm kicking myself for leaving.
  13. You guys have listed some pretty awful ones. However, that first Nightwing costume is always the first to come to mind when I think of awful costumes. I also hate to say it, because the book was so good and the art was awesome, but the redesign of Beast's outfit for Astonishing X-Men was really bad. Namor's little green Speedo is also pretty awful, though more of a non-outfit. I have bad dreams where I go out in public like that. Also, while not bad in and of itself, Jim Lee's redesign of the Huntress outfit just didn't make sense for the character. The costume itself was okay, though, so I don't know if that should count here. As far as good ones, I really like the one that we actually got as a Minimate, that being Jean Grey from New X-Men. The trench coat and dark gray top with the X-logo in yellow. And speaking of Jean, the red and yellow Dark Phoenix outfit was also pretty cool. I also abosolutely love the Ridder's outfit when he wears the suit and the bowler. He wore it frequently in the animated series.
  14. Dudes, yeah. I only got 1 and 2 because I wanted to make sure to get 3 and 4.
  15. Nope, that's not okay. :-) The LEGO Batman sets are really cool. I can't imagine this having anything to do with the DC 'Mates thing. I can't imagine DCD dropping DST and 'Mates in order to make an Asian exclusive from a shady company. Either way, that's an ugly block figure, and is way worse than PALz.
  16. These are looking more and more slick the more I hear about them. Finally got around to going through Previews and saw the muscle-shirt Tony. I may be tempted into getting two sets of most of these to display both the armored and un-armored versions. NIce.
  17. So you... enjoy neck bones? Like, to eat? For decorating? Ha ha ha. I admit that I did use the phrase inappropriately, but that's only because I use it whenever I possibly can. Neck bone in Urban Dictionary.
  18. Damn. I love 24, and this was one of the lines that I was really excited about getting. I'm especially disappointed in not geting a Chloe and a Curtis (and dare I dream of Edgar?). This is highly upsetting to me. Especially with them going in the heavy movie direction that I'm not interested in. I've no plans for the Eastwood Western, Silence, Platoon, or DSS, but I was on 24 like a steamin' pile of neck bone.
  19. The first seven that you posted above are from BrickArms. You're probably better off just getting them directly from Will at www.brickarms.com. I've purchased many guns for my LEGO guys from BrickArms, and they're pretty fantastic. I've never thought to try them with 'Mates. I think the handles might be a little too big, and may be too close to LEGO-style rather than the more detailed MiniMate-style. But I really can't say anything bad about BrickArms. He's currently working on getting his third mold of weapons, so those should be available soon. Included in those are some stun granades, Robocop gun, Halo guns, Bladerunner gun, and few modern guns and one or two older guns. Will Chapman, who runs the site, comes up with ideas with his young son. He says that before a gun is made, his son has to approve it. He has a custom molder in his garage that he makes prototypes on. Once he's happy with those, he gets a mold made which is used with ABS plastic in mass at an injection facility. It's all a very neat process. If you're looking for some other stuff, you may also want to see BrickForge (www.brickforge.com). They do a lot of swords and things for LEGO
  20. Don't feel bad, WW4M, I had the same attitude. :-) Except that I made sure to use a mug with a handle rather than a plastic cup.
  21. I did the hot water trick. It doesn't need to be boiling by any means. Somewhere between warm and hot works fine. I took a mug and nuked it for a minute. They only need a couple seconds in the water and they go on really easily. Thumbs up!
  22. Those peanuts are pretty cool. I remember a challenger on Iron Chef America using them. He shot them with a laser or something. He had kind of a "high tech cooking" theme going. The best part is that you can put them in a big box or something. Ferrets love that. They run around through it, and it's not a big deal if they happen to eat it. Plus, it's way easier to clean up than rice.
  23. A couple of minor things surprised me. First, that packaging for the Marvel 'Mates is dictated in the contract. Being detailed all the way down to window boxes. Crazy. Second, that they couldn't do a Mudd figure. I mean, personally, I'm tepid toward the character, so don't mind. But I find it curious that they have access to some characters but not others. This sort of leads into them not being able to do JJ Trek 'Mates. It's all really interesting.
  24. See, but Galactic Heroes, 3.75", Unleashed Battle Packs, LEGO, and MiniMates are all different markets. Zeus bless you for trying, DST, but MiniMates are still a specialty market product. That alone makes them different from the other four. 3.75" is the bread and butter, GH is tiny-kid friendly, Unleashed are static with detail, and LEGO is construction. I don't think MiniMates would step on any of those toes or cannibalize any of those sales. Speaking for myself (who buys both 3.75" and LEGO), I'd still buy what I currently buy, and add SW 'Mates on top. And, remember, Batman LEGO and MiniMates coexist, as did Spider-Man (though the licensing there was a unique situation, so may not directly apply). I'm not psyching myself up over these coming, but I'd be so happy if they did.
  25. Put me in the "ick!" camp, and not just because I'm brand-loyal to MiniMates. I've never cared for Kubricks. I got the first wave of Marvel from eBay before MiniMates were introduced. (BTW, there's a line that's co-existing with Minimates, so Lost 'Mates can still happen.) They didn't look good, were hardly posable, and just felt cheap all around. The likenesses are all right (except Kate), but the bodies are just awful. I'll hold out for the MiniMates.
