616commando
Bought my first few of these this weekend. I'm a sucker for a blind box. It's like play a slot machine, which I also happen to enjoy. You got a 1.9 percent chance of scoring big, and a 100 percent chance of spending a lot of cash pressing your luck. 5 Aliens figures @ 5 dollars a piece= one single expensive alien. You guys must have arteries and wallets of steel to form collections like the ones posted. bravo! Edited May 27, 2009 by 616commando

karamazov80
Got a ridiculously expensive Batman LEGO set recently, for the sole purpose of doing this: Very cool stuff. And yeah, I know how dusty my TV area is
blockmerchant
Quick question: Where does everyone get their Kubricks? I am most interested in the Star Wars ones. Has anyone dealt with Brian's Toys? Basically, I am looking a reliable company thats not out to gouge the consumer (aren't we all?). Thanks for any help! P.S. That Batman display is awesome! karamazov80
EBay is the way to go, really, though I have also bought/traded some from board members on Kubrick Nation. There are some retailers here or there that sell Kubricks, but some are not based out of the U.S., some don't update their sites very frequently, etc.
buttheadsmate
I buy mine almost excusively on ebay which isn't ideal .....kubrick sellers work like a cartel Sam, that vehicle looks great

buttheadsmate
The latest wave of Metal Gear Solid is showing up on ebay .
karamazov80
And apparently the chases are. . ."stealth" versions of 2 Snakes from the previous line. Really lame, IMO, given the number of potential Metal Gear characters we could have had. Maybe the economy is hitting Medicom so that they have to re-use molds as a cost-saving move. http://www.kubricknation.com/forum/viewtop...&p=462#p462 Edited October 29, 2009 by karamazov80
buttheadsmate
I have some affection for kubricks but just lately Medicom has taken a few liberties which I'd like to discuss. First of all 'Watchmen' which I'd pre-ordered the blind-boxed sets only to find that TRU have the basic set at a decent price a few months later.....not a real problem but irritating. That's on top of the absolutely horrendous prices of any of the 'secrets' in current lines....Metal Gear,Star Wars & Evangelion for example ....which are at least $60+ ranging to over $250 + recently..... if your daft enough not to be patient. These secrets have always been precious but now it is becoming almost obscene with some Star Wars chases fetching incredible sums but I now notice that Medicom are to release a 'Runaway Brain Mickey & Julius ' 2 pack in January 2010 in their Disney series. These 2 characters will now be freely available as a box-set whilst collectors like myself paid dearly to get them when ,years ago, they were originally secret chases years ago. I love this hobby
karamazov80
I can't defend the variant re-release strategy. It is wrong on just about every level. Similarly, they will soon be re-releasing non-exclusive, non-variant RAH Metal Gear figures, which has pissed off other collectors who were happy that their "originally" released versions were worth upwards of $400, but that is a bit more understandable in my opinion. Personally, I might pick one up whereas I would not have done so for their previous prices. As for the Watchmen, I would note that we actually knew about the 3 packs well before the blind boxed versions were released. We didn't know with absolute certainty, but it was up for pre-order from various places, and those who didn't want to wait might be accused of being a bit impatient. Just saying. . . buttheadsmate
I accept what you are saying about the Watchmen ,Sam but remember that nobody was quite sure about the secrets being in the box set versions of which the rumours were never dismissed by Medicom. I still don't have the chase figure.....or the box sets which I'll inevitably buy
karamazov80
Well, we now know with a fair degree of certainty that the chases will not be available in the box sets. No one on Kubrick Nation has seemed to run across one, and I've seen scores of sets at my local TRU with no chase. So, that was certainly one area where the preliminary description of these box sets ("1 in 4 is a chase") was wrong.
buttheadsmate
I just noticed one of the guys' (Sir Real) collection on the jedidefender forum http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=14546.180 .....not bad.... not bad at all ! karamazov80
Yeah, it's funny that there seem to be far fewer Kubrick than Minimate fans in English-speaking countries (based on forum activity), but of the Kubrick collectors, a fair chunk of them are hardcore collectors. And I mean, completists for certain lines including $200+ chases, $300+ box sets, willing to essentially pay $5+ each for those cases, sometimes having hundreds and hundreds of them. I do realize, however, that if I only stuck to one line of toys, my collection could easily rival any of those guys. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm tallying up my collection, and so far (I haven't finished adding all of them in), I've got over 200 Kubricks. Pretty ridiculous, if you ask me. Rob, you should try this at some point. Edited November 15, 2009 by karamazov80

Cappy
One should never, ever take a cold hard look at one's collection(s). It's bound to spoil the fun.

buttheadsmate
When I think I might be getting away from these little bastards, they pull me back in. Just spent about $50 on some elusive MUSCLE Kubricks. Now I'm gonna need to track down the ones that got away. . . I guess they were the loose ones that rydog was selling ? I have been completing my Tokyo Tribe series' with him this week & toyed with bidding on those ......mine are confined to packaging . He's sold a lot of stuff this week & I'm after one more canine kubrick that has eluded me forever ....later today.
karamazov80
That's where it started. I got two from him, mostly just wanting the main "Muscle Man" figure, because I had about 20 different versions of him as a kid, so he is the one to own. Once I won, I figured, he needs a nemesis, right? So I got one more guy. And I wanted the most interesting looking of the bunch--Bone Man, but didn't bid highly enough. I have been watching Kubrick auctions on and off for awhile, and for whatever reason, haven't noticed these popping up very much. So, I just assumed that there would be no others on eBay. But this morning I actually checked, and lo and behold: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Now I need that Bone Man. And though I've never seen him on eBay that I recall, I need Robin Mask, who I remember and liked as a kid (first one in the lineup here). I also remember seeing a guy that resembled Starman from the Pro Wrestling Nintendo game, but I don't know if it was from MUSCLE, Tiger Mask, or something else. I need that guy too, though.
