Has anyone seen the packaging for Series 16 yet? I am wondering if they are returning to the square boxes, or continuing with the header cards like we saw on the X-Men Last Stand wave?

If the one set they gave away at SDCC is anything to go by then it's the 'header cards' packaging (the same as the x3 wave)

Ew, I hate that kind of packaging

me too. I really loved the boxes, but the bubble packs were cool too. I thought they would be returning to those since ALL the other minimates coming out have them. Well in 1 hour I will know for sure (that when my LCS open).

I think it's a mistake for Marvel to continue to use the 'header cards' especially when every other line seems to be going for the window box. Sure it's a little more expensive but what's a kid more likely to buy? Tiny, dynamic-looking block figures which they can actually see or 'the mystery box'? Of course it doesn't change the contents but there's something more appealing about seeing what you're getting.

And if they insist on non-conformity, I'd prefer if they went back to normal boxes.

So I just picked up the whole shibang, and as much as I LOVE this set, what kind of fan would I be if there wasn't some dissecting? Here we go!

First off, the packaging... I know there's a whole thread on this, but what really bugs me about the packaging isn't even the boxes, but just the presentation on the front. I liked the X-Men 3 concept with close ups on one character with another in the background, that was kind of cool. Here we just get a really silly orange color with the characters off to each side... something about it just didn't seem very dynamic. Also the images on the cover aren't representative of whats inside, facial features, coloring, and even certain sculpts are very different.

Onto the figures themselves...

Loki - Not too much to say here, it's a good Loki figure. There's nothing I would have added really, except I would have liked to see him with a smirk rather than a scowl... he's a trickster, not someone so serious.

Thor - Something about the Helmet, or the paint job on the face, makes it so that he has a huge forehead... there's just too much room from his eyes to where the helmet starts.

Varient Thor - Couple of things bug me about this one... for one thing, the chest piece does not match the one on the box, and essentially it's the EXACT same figure and sculpt as the normal Thor, just with a different paint job. I know this is just a variant, but I like my variants to act as different figures... oh well. Also, I just don't think this was the right choice for Variant... Wonder Man would have been a better choice...

Wonder Man - The only thing I don't really like about this is the hair... I would have prefered jet black as opposed to brown. However, as mentioned above, I think Wonder Man lends himself better to a variant. I don't think anyone really cares about "Bearded Thor"... but could you imagine an energy Wonder Man? Transparent purple with red spots and possibly a stand kind of like the one Human Torch has? Now THAT'S a variant, my friend. Hell, I'd have even prefered "Leisure Suit Simon" to the Thor variant.

She- Hulk - The figure itself is very nice, and I was pleasently surprised to see the face was a different paint job than the one on the cover, a better one. The only problem with her is the ridiculous accessory... first of all, what the hell is it? I'm assuming a pipe, but mine's not silver or pipe looking, it's just a white piece of plastic. On top of that, it's the wrong thickness, it doesn't fit into She-Hulk's hands, you have to force it, and that can't be good for the figure. Going back to the Variant thing again, I would have liked to see a Fantastic Four uniform She-Hulk as a variant... again, that holds more meaning for fans, I think, than bearded Thor.

Scarlet Witch - Perfect As Is

Quicksilver - Perfect As Is

Anyway, those are my bitchings. Over all I like the set... but when you wait so long for something, there's bound to be some whining ;)

WOW that didn't take long... we wait ages for some avengers that we asked for and the first thread is a complaints one!!!

Talk about the Glass being half empty guys... I cant wait to get my hands on these.

As for your critisisms on the variants...

The FF She-hulk is an easy quick custom to do... so I'm glad we're getting a 'proper' variant.

Complaining about the Thor variant just being a different paint job would mean pretty much complaining about every variant in pretty much every toy line EVER! - this arguement also flies in the face of the 'black spidey shouldn't have been a variant rants' people need to make up their minds either we get slight changes or different characters you can have it both ways.

You know whats really missing from all this? Pictures! I can't wait to see Cap, Ironman, and Thor together. This is one swell set.

Ditto - this thread is useless WITHOUT PICS!

Having previously been the target of a similar complaint can we tone down comments like Tad's please.

You want to see pics, ask if there's a chance of any pics. Don't attack the guy for not posting them.

hey guys, I think I remember Chuck saying( this is from memory, not an exact quote) this is the only way they were allowed to package them. so this is why everything but the marvel mates is packaged in the window box.

i actually really like the bearded thor. like tbt says, almost all of the variants are just changes in color schemes or paints rather than actual physical variants.

i think his gold boots and the chest piece being different than the prototype on the box is a lot better. i especially like the detailing on his face. he is easily a better figure than the previously mentioned "big forehead" mainstream figure.
