I love the new BSG series - it's definitely more than "so-so" and worth picking up. I don't think you need to see the original series before you see the new one (I haven't, except for snippets on TV). And as for the second season you need to get 2.5 - the regular version is missing the last three episodes or so.

I can't wait to get the 3rd season on DVD - I hear it's wicked!

Man, I don't know what it is about this thread, but it just doesn't seem to ever get anyone's attention. I own over 400 DVDs, so it's easy for me to want to talk about it. I guess DVDs aren't as popular as I thought :).

Anyway, The Guardian comes out today as well as the animated Iron Man movie. I'm picking them both up along with A Night with the King (for my wife). We saw Guardian in the theater and it was pretty good. I'll have to watch it again before recommending it though, I may have just been excited that there was finally a new Kevin Cosner movie that didn't suck. Iron Man is a must though, I'm really looking forward to it. Plus, at Target, you get a free Comic on CD bonus. Not sure what comic it is, but I'll let you guys know this afternoon after I get it.

Good news is, my B-Day is in Feb and the only thing on my list are DVDs. I'm getting Prision Break Season 1 and Battlestar Galactica Season 1 and 2.5. I can't wait. neo

opps late to this thread so will have to play pickup...

BSG is great and I totally recommend it. However I think that Fujis may have lead you slightly astray there. You need 2.0 and 2.5.

2.0 is the first half of the second season 2.5 is the second half of the same season. Each has about 10 episodes on it. The only overlap is a a two parter that spans the middle of the season 'break' which is half on 2.0 and then in and extended version that recaps both parts on the second.

Yup, my bad. I thought 2.5 was the whole of season 2. Now I realize why it seemed a little too short: 'cause it was only half the season!

Sorry for the double post. I just poped in the bonus CD-Rom that I got with the Iron Man DVD. It's the full issue of Iron Man #311. I haven't read through it yet, but the cover shows Madarin with a death grip on Iron Man (See Below):

I haven't read it yet. Maybe some real diehard fans can commit on it. I'll try to read it later tonight and let you guys know how it is. neo

Crap yes it is. I just finished reading it. Work slowed down so I had time. It ends with Madarin saying "Now you will die at the Hands of The Madarin"..............and it's done. I'm very disappointed. It's not like I can walk into a store and pick up Iron Man 312 with ease. Oh well, I guess in the end it's still a nice bonus :). neo

If it had of gone to #312 I probably could have helped you.. it goes to Forceworks #7 though, I dont think I have that issue "archived" :(

#312 is part 6 of the story... I dont want to spoil the cliff hanger for you BUT Ironman doesn't die ;)

Neo I wouldn't take it to heart so badly, I think most of us have gotten up with the holidays and recovering from the holidays  I know the last disc I purchased was the Ultimate Bond #1 way back when it was first released. Of course now I need to play catch up and get some more discs. Who cares if I quite a few discs I haven't watched since I picked them up, I can always use more  My only problem with picking them up right away is that down the line most of them go on sale and that can be perturbing at times <_< Especially with the boxed sets, I usually pick up the last season of something when the new release comes out, since their usually on sale at a reduced price. It's how I picked up the JLA and BTAS season discs, now I'm just waiting to see what comes out in that arena before I make a decision. Most likely my next discs will be Deadman's Chest and the rest of the Bond collections  Once I play catch up, I'll contribute more though.

Sigh, that comes with the Marvel Legends Face-off too. I can't help but feel that's connected somehow.

Well, I watched the movie last night. I have some mixed feelings. Here are my thoughts, spoiler free of course:

Story

-Well, I can't say that I'm a diehard Iron Man fan, but from what I know about Iron Man the story was completely original. If I'm mistake please forgive me, but I've never seen the 4 "elemental warriors" in the comics before. The basis of the movie is Tony raises the lost city of The Madarin and begins to fulfill the prophesy of The Madarin rising again. The Elemental Warriors awaken and begin the hunt for the magic Rings to give new life to The Madarin. That's basically it, in a nut shell. To be honest, all the "other stuff" was more appealing to me than the main plot. The Political nature of the Enterprise, the relationship of Tony and Rhodey and Tony and Pepper, and the flawless performance of a rich playboy are just examples of that "other stuff". The one thing I will point out is the fact how suprised I was at the adult content. People being shot with blood scatering. Tony in the Hot Tub with a lady. Things like that were not something I was expecting, but it was very welcome and nicely done. In the end though I would have rather seen a more comic friendly adaption with more Iron Man. Not to say it was a bad movie by any standard, but I would have perfered more.

Grade: (B-)

Animation

-Marvel is really getting my attention with these few Animated movies. I loved the Animation from both the Ultimate Avenger movies and Iron Man acutally turns it up a bit. I guess it's because Iron Man really blends inself into the Computer/Animation style very nice being that it's heavy Tech based. The Armor was the spot light and it game off both a hit and a miss. The suit itself looked AMAZING. The detail on the armor was great and it just make's it look cool to see it Animated and in action. However, a lot of times that action comes off very jerky. Now, I do understand that he is in a full body piece of metal so he won't move around like Spider Man but I would like to see him a little more fluid then in some of the scenes. Overall though, I have no complaints. The colors were vivid and the graphics were nice. They blended more computer than the previous movies, but it doesn't seem to stick out too bad.

Grade: (A)

Characters

-I have to say I am looking forward to ol Robert Jr. to pick up the helmet on the big screen, but animated Tony really comes to life. I think he comes across even better than his Ultimate Avenger counterpart. He is smooth and concieded, but you can tell he has heart and courage. It reminds me of Batman: TAS. No matter how many Batman movies are made, good or bad, Kevin Conway will ALWAYS be Batman. That's kind of how I feel about this Tony. It was the best version of Tony that I've ever seen live. And, as great as Tony was, Rhodey was much better. Trust me, you will finish the movie wishing that War Machine showed up :). Pepper and Howard were both done very nice too. The movie lacks a true, long winded villian, but the rest of the cast does very well. I would have liked to see more of the relationship between Tony and Rhodey and I would have liked to see more scenes in the board room....but I can wait for the sequel.

Grade: (B)

DVD (Quality/Features)

-The picture is wonderful. It's in Widescreen and I watched it on my 46inch HD TV will full surround sound. The movie looks and sounds great. The sound to me is better than both the Avenger movies. On the features side there is a nice making of feature as well as an alternate intro. It's nothing too deep, but it's nice to have. There is also a "Hall of Armor" feature that takes you through about 15 or 20 different suits that Tony has worn. It gives their story and when he used them. It's a very good feature for the comic fans. Lastly there are a number of trailers (Marvel:UA, The Last Unicorn, etc) as well as an in depth trailer of the new Dr. Strange Movie. All in all, for a single disc animated release, not too shaby.

Grade: (B)

Last Thoughts

Pros:

-GREAT Animation

-Original Story

-Tony Stark and Jim Rhodes

-Future Possibilities

Cons:

-Weak Villain Action

-Not Enough Iron Man

-The Final Battle

-Some of the Computer Animation

Final Grade: (B-)

Spoiler Section:

The Good

Walking into the "Iron Cave". It was awesome to see the different suits. You get a shot of the Hulkbuster Armor and then a shot of War Machine as well as shadows of the Space Armor. It was very cool. I would have actually like to see an interactive feature where you could see each suit they put in the movie.

The Bad

The Madarin! That was the lamest fight of all time. It was a nice twists to see the girl have to become The Madarin, but it was a lame fight. I was looking forward to a traditional Iron Man vs Madarin fight, but instead we get a weak spirit version of the Madarin and a naked asian woman........not that a naken asian woman is all bad

;). Overall, even with the Elemental Heroes, I just feel like the fights were kind of lame and didn't live up to the heroic standard of the Iron Man that I know.

The Ugly

The Original Suit. Ok, don't get me wrong, when Tony and Jim were working on the suit while captured it was nice to see a throwback to the origin suit that Tony started with. It was even nicer to see it in action because it looked a lot less dorky on screen than it does in the comics. However, for him to be forced to use the same suit at the end of the movie was not my favorite part. Sure, it made sense story wise and it is probably great for long time, die hard fans, but I want to see the modern Red/Gold suit. I want him to look like a flippin F-22 fighter on steriods and instead he looks like the Iron Giant's Mini-Me.

Sorry for the double post. I had a question. I was looking online for the best price on BattleStar Galactica on DVD (for my B-day, remember). Now, I came across a 2003 Miniseries that I had not heard of before. Now, is this something that I should get and watch BEFORE the Season or is just a stand alone story? Please let me know, I may have to add that to my list :). neo

No, don't bother as that's included in the Season 1 set(someone back me up on this). It's basically the pilot for the show that kicked everything off, so just ignore it. Not sure if your family is getting them online or in a store, but you might use this site for price comparison's. As far as online stores though, I tend to use Deepdiscount.com for alot of my online shopping. Good luck and in case I miss it, Happy Birthday.

Man, I treat this poor thread like my Redheaded Step-Child :). There have been a few good releases over the past few weeks. The Prestige and Peter Pan Platnum are among the best. Borat also came out.....but I have no comment. The next two weeks look pretty decent on the DVD front. Here are the ones to note:

3/13/07

-007: Casino Royal

-TMNT Season 4 (Original)

-Loonatics Unleashed Season 1

3/20/07

-Blood Diamond

-Rocky Balboa

-Eragon

-Batman Beyond Season 3

-Justice League Unlimited Season 2

Those are just the highlights. There are quite a few that I'm looking to pick up in the following weeks. Of course, as a person who never watched Justice League or Batman Beyond during its production, I'm most looking forward to their final episodes. Casino Royal is also a huge plus, I can't wait to watch it again this week. neo

OK, so my life has been so dang busy I haven't had a lot of time to watch anything. Right now I have at least 6 DVDs that are new and unwatched. I'm going to try and watch some tonight. HOWEVER, I did finally watch "The Prestige" this week and it was Amazing. First let me just say how much I love Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale. In fact, I hope they work on Batman until they drop dead, they are wonderful. To be honest I wasn't sure how I would like The Prestige going in. But, because of my previously mentioned love, I continued to watch and boy was I happy I did. The pacing was excellent and the direction was flawless. Both actors (Christian and Hugh) were wonderful and while I'm not a fan of Scarlett she didn't screw up the scenes she was in, so that was a plus. It is actually one of the few movies in a long time that I've actually recommended. It was edge of the seat and keep the guessing until the end when it smacked you on your butt and laughed in your face.........then you rewind and start again. Two HUGE Thumbs Up, if you haven't see this you need to rent/buy this ASAP, you won't be disappointed.

Since it's a rainy weekend here in DFW I'm going to try and catch up on some of my movies that I haven't watched yet. On the counter I have 007: Casino Royal, The Pursuit of Happyness, Happy Feet, not to mention the First season of Battlestar Galactica and the Final Seasons of Batman: Beyond and JLU. *Phew*, it is going to be a long weekend :D. neo

Here's a search engine I use alot when it comes to dvd's Fujis, just type in Battlestar Galactica  While it might not reflect the sales going on in the stores, it at least gives you a starting point for pricing things out. You also might try Half.com, but at those prices I would go with DeepDiscount.com :)

Yeah, you might want to wait until Season 3 is released. Best Buy seems to put the previous sets on sale when the new season dvd are released. It's how I have the first few season of the JLA sets. Of course now I have to pick up the JLU and Batman Beyond sets

Question!

I have a site that you can watch very old cartoons, shows and movies. But you can also see movies that are new , and some that are still in theaters. I think alot of people would like it. But i don't know the rules of posting that type of link. If I post it would it be a bannable offense of theese forums or would it be okay?

I bought the new edition of "Revenge of the Nerds" last week and I finally got around to watching it today. It's been a while since I've seen this movie unedited so a few scenes seemed completely different from my memory. Anyway, I'd say the value is great at $14.99 but I saw a $19.99 box set of all four movies at Target two days after I bought it so I returned the one I had and got the set (even though 3 and 4 are crappy TV movies). As far as extras go, this one packs quite a bit into one disc. The "I'm a nerd and I'm pretty proud of it" featurette was well done and provides some wonderfull insight by some of the cast and director. The deleted scenes were a big surprise that would have taken some parts of the movie in a very different direction. I haven't listened to the commentary yet. Also included on the DVD is the pilot for the "Revenge of the Nerds" TV series. It was so awful and I'm very glad it never aired. It even included the guy that played Oliver on "The Brady Bunch" as Booger.

To Fujis, check this out - 2.0 / 2.5 - this is basically just a repackaging of both season 2 sets at a cheaper price that is coming out in May. While it's still quite expensive, but will save roughtly $10 to $20. It's worth looking into, I know I'm picking it up :D.

On the subject of re-releases. Revenge of the Nerds was never my favorite type of movie, but my old dormmate got it and LOVES it, he showed me a couple of the special features and it was good. There is a Special Edition of Major League that comes out tomorrow and it looks sweet, it's a Must-Have for me. Then, next week, we see Spider-Man 2.1 which is probably only for the hardcore fans, but I will be bringing it home.

This week we also see the release of "The Batman: Season 3" and "Teen Titans: Season 3". I have been following these 2 series on DVD only and I really enjoy them, I'll be more than happy to pick up these next two entries. neo

Yeah, I definately need to pick up Season 3 of The Batman and will eventually pick up Teen Titans once I catch up on Batman Beyond and JLU. Has anyone heard if they are going to come out with another version of Casino Royale? I heard that it wasn't loaded with too many extras. Neo, let us know what you think of Spidey 2.1. From what I can gather, it's just not worth picking up for 8 minutes of extra footage. Especially when I already have the discs(I know, I KNOW!! I'm the same idiot who picked up the original SW cuts ). But I think I've grown a bit, as I don't like getting dvd's over and over again(Except SW :P). Directors cuts are great, I've found some better movies because of them. But when they are basically re-releasing the same movie with not alot of bang for it's buck, I have to pass(Except SW ).
