Inkblot2
As I embark on cataloging assembling pieces with accessories and listing items up on ebay I'm trying my hardest to try and remember what the average price of a mini mates 2 pack was back in the day. I haven't bought a set since….Iron Man 2? or maybe Marvel Zombies if that came after? For some reason I remember Toys R Us selling them for $6.99? is that right? MisterPL
The first Marvel specialty sets went for $5.99 as I recall. That sticks in my head because the DC sets were two dollars more and retailed for $7.99. But yeah, TRU sold them for $6.99 not long ago. Inkblot2
Thanks! Appreciate the help. My memory is not what it used to be!
arnim zola
That's weird, I remember early marvel being 7.99 for 2 packs and 9.99 for DC mates when they came out.
karamazov80
The DC-Mates were $7 or $8 at the local comic shop where I frequented.
MisterPL
I'm sure it varied by retailer and region. I'm in northeast PA but I'm trying to go by DST's MSRP. I distinctly remember by LSC owner lowering the prices on the DC 'mates because there was no way they'd move with Marvel at $2 more.
MisterPL
Here's a review of DC Direct's first wave of Minimates. It mentions Marvel being $6 while DC was $8 or $9.
arnim zola
I remember the 2 dollar difference f0or sure and thinking, Ill buy these like all other minimates but this is bullshit. Im not even a dc fan. (around the time I wasnt, I grew into one because of these mates.)
karamazov80
Thing was, the DC 'Mates were a step above the Marvel ones in terms of quality at the time, and even design somehow! I remember seeing the wave 12 and 13 Marvel ones on sale at the same time as wave 1 of DC (because this is when I first got into Minimates). There is simply no comparison between something like this: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=90&n=Wolverine or, God bless him, this: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=78&n=Riot+Attack+Spider-Man and these bad boys: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=261&n=Superman http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=263&n=Green+Lantern+Hal+Jordan So, I think the $2 premium was well justified! MisterPL
The Green Arrow/Deathstroke 2-pack set a new standard for accessories. That impressed the hell out of me. Prior to that we might getting webbing or a chunk of kryptonite. That was a lot of extras at that time.
karamazov80
Yeah, I remember also being awed by this: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/pack.php?i=33&n=Assault+Punisher++Blade
MisterPL
We felt spoiled, didn't we? Now we get stands and alternate parts...
arnim zola
That was a lot of stuff for a two pack back then
jcastick
I wanna say with the first several Marvel sets, I was able to pick up for $6 or $7 a 2 pack at Suncoast video. They weren't as popular then and I was able to get the whole series when they came out. I miss those days.
