A Question for all who have seen Guardians of the Galaxy

Just curious how did you (or anyone really) explain any of the other dramatic death filled moments of the marvel movies to their kids? Uncle Ben, peters parents, jean grey, old man yashida, bucky (from TFA), Loki, frigga, stane, vanko, killian, gwen, ... Death and loss is a part of life and a part of the marvel universe. How could you possibly get around that?

I have a 4 year old and he's seen most of the marvel movies and he understands that for the most part that the heroes fight in spite of the pain and possible or realized loss of loved ones.

Not trying to challenge or be a 'troll' I'm just curious how others might handle this.

It's a delicate topic, similar to "The Talk" I believe it depends on their maturity, each child is different and only you the parent know when they're ready. If you tell them and they are not ready then they'll be confused and ask questions, but you won't ruin their lives or anything, they'll just be more informed. I was not sheltered at all though, so maybe we won't all see eye to eye.

I personally don't think movies or music influence kids that way. That's a whole other can of worms. The movie is fine for young teens and up.

I agree. In my experience, children can watch or listen to anything and still have normal lives. It all boils down to how their parents choose to raise them.

Well I don't know if it's a question of whether or not they will have normal lives, so much as whether or not it might expose them to ideas and experiences before they should be, developmentally, that could create trauma, or contribute to the premature demise of innocence and naivete on some level. I personally watched parts of Terminator (eye surgery), Robocop (ED-209 shooting), and Monty Python's Meaning of Life (several scenes) as a kid who really was too young to be seeing them. And they did have a strong, negative effect on me. I don't blame my own set of abnormalities on those experiences, though they may played some role. To take some extreme examples, I think most of us would agree that a 5 year old shouldn't be watching Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer or pornography.
