  1. Using the Pyro mask for Speedball hadn't occurred to me. It's not perfect but it would work pretty well, and since there's tooling for a cat they could make Niels, which would be kind of awesome just for how unlikely it would be. Eel was another character I was thinking of when I wrote my initial list. Throw in some lightning pieces and you're good to go. I'd agree that Constrictor would need new hands for his tentacles, though he is high on my list of minor villains I'd like to see done. Mad Thinker is a perfect fit for the theme. Cyclone would work too but he seems like a character that is crying out for a whirlwind base (which could be reused for, uh, Whirlwind). Rick Jones is easy, I feel like he would need something to make him stand out. Maybe the red jacket, yellow shirt look with Nega-Bands would be enough. As Nessex said, with the animated Medusa hair most of her comic looks would fit here.
  2. As Zach said, "a perfectly feasible wish list" is basically what I was going for as I find this kind of thing more interesting with some restrictions. So, figures you'd like that would require no new tooling and not be worse off for it. I guess I didn't do a good job explaining it. Or no one was interested. Also, if there's confusion, I absolutely meant a design like the Red King is compromised by using the existing pieces. I understand why and don't doubt that something like what we've seen is the only way the character would be made but it is an example of a character design being forced onto existing parts. What degree of compromise people are satisfied with is up to them. I certainly wouldn't want to see DST not make bulky characters, I'd just like them to be as close to the comic design as feasible. Sometimes that may not be close. As for Nova, this is the classic design I had in mind: The waist and gloves are a little different than the Centurion that was made before and the shoulder pieces probably wouldn't be necessary. A brighter gold would be nice too. The uniform has definitely been drawn more like the minimate we have, especially the Centurions during the Annihilation era, so I wouldn't say it was inaccurate, just that a few tweaks would make a better classic Nova. Obviously that would only matter if other New Warriors were being made at the same time.
  3. That would be a great point if Evans didn't color his hair when playing Cap.
  4. With some of the discussion about BAFs and my own dissatisfaction with how a few of the recently announced characters were adapted I got to thinking about new minimates that could be made using only parts that already exist. I'm thinking of characters/costumes that wouldn't be shortchanged by parts reuse, like Purple Man, rather than "close enough" versions, like the Red King or Mandroid. Here are a few of my ideas: 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy Drax. Drax is easy, just a regular body with knives for accessories, the ones from X-Force Warpath would work perfectly for what he was using at the time. Classic Guardians of the Galaxy: Vance Astro and Martinex. Vance would just be the standard body with Cap's shield. Martinex would be the standard body with fairly complicated printing and probably some power blasts. I could see the argument that he could use new sculpted pieces but I doubt that would actually look any better. New Warriors: Nova/Kid Nova, Namorita, Rage. Either of Nova's looks could be made using the parts from the Nova Corps Centurion. The blue and gold version wasn't quite correct before so that could be tweaked with a new head. Namorita could use the hair from ASM Gwen and, obviously, Namor's foot wings. I don't see Rage as being large enough to be bulked-up, so the familiar leather jacket piece as a vest would do the job, and maybe add the bracelets from Marvel NOW Thor. Spider-Man Villains: Modern Electro and Tombstone. Since the modern version of Electro is a little more subdued he could just use the regular body and some lightning pieces. Throwing in the mask would be nice if the part was still available. Tombstone could easily be a new head on a suit since there's a hairpiece that works for him. With the collar from Morbius you could get the costume version like the current ML figure. They could probably make both looks with just one figure. A-List: Astonishing Wolverine (Cassaday) and Classic Stealth Iron Man. Yes, these would both be redos, but the previous versions are quite old and Wolverine didn't have a mask. Wolverine would mostly be the MvC version with different printing (the costumes aren't exactly the same) and the NOW Wolverine mask since the shorter wings would be more accurate. The extra mask that hangs around the neck would be a nice addition. I'm torn on whether the boots would be better printed our using the usual Wolverine boot piece. Probably not a popular suggestion but it's my favorite (or maybe second favorite) Wolverine costume so it would be nice to see it get a good minimate. Iron Man would be the Classic Heroic Age/Best Of version in blue. Metallic blue paint would add a little bit of interest to the figure. I'm curious to see what everyone else would come up with.
  5. " ...whether they are doing full DC universe will be up to them." sounds like a pretty definitive statement. Granted, it may not reflect the reality of the situation, and I doubt it does because of Chuck's comments, but it's hard to take that statement any other way than that the ball is in DST's court.
  6. I checked out another Wal-mart today and they had the Dr. Strange wave marked down to $9. The Allfather and Thanos wave figures which have been there for over 2 years were still priced at $15 for some reason which is just baffling since they've been on clearance for at least a year.
  7. People are disappointed in the character design, not the costume design, unless there was a whole bunch of complaining about that outfit somewhere that I missed, and that makes sense because the chalk-white skin and black circle are the most notable thing about Domino. I'm not sure why it's any more enlightened to choose not to portray a character with a completely unrealistic skin tone, but then I don't really enough about Dom to get too upset either. Also, MCU Falcon > Comics Falcon.
  8. I suspect you're right here, as soon as they cast this actress it became very unlikely they were going to go with the comic look. I'd be fine with a comic tie-in wave instead but if people are hoping it would be structured significantly different than the one DST made previously I think they're going to be disappointed.
  9. I quit collecting Pops about a year ago for this very reason. Between the character choices for the Collector Corps and SDCC exclusives it was obvious Funko was dedicated to rarity as a marketing strategy and significant characters were going to be a real pain to obtain. I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle and frustration, plus keeping all those figures in boxes takes up a lot of space.
  10. That's the first time I've heard anyone say they liked that Domino design. If DST skips this movie then we'll know there's definitely a Fox ban. The popularity of the first one plus the ease of making a boxset would make this too hard to pass up otherwise.
  11. Control art just sort of stopped. It's never posted on the FB page anymore either.
  12. I think Disney overestimates what consumers will pay for their product, which I suppose they already do by forcing retailers to not discount their Blu-Ray discs. People like the major streaming services because you can find a wide variety of movies/shows at a great price and it's relatively affordable to subscribe to a few of them but if you're talking more than three customers are just going to check out. I love the Netflix Marvel content but I'm out if Disney tries to force me to buy another subscription.
  13. I would buy at least two of a new Professor Hulk, especially if he came with slippers and a gun. I'd also buy the entire Pantheon, so I may be a little weird.
  14. It didn't seem like as good of a deal after seeing the Star Wars Black figures from Rogue One marked down to $4.98 at Target. That was mostly Jyn Erso (like 3 full pegs) with a few Cassian Andor thrown in though. I did manage to score a few other figures at that price, because who could pass that up?
  15. Well, I needed that Iron Man because it's one of the best Iron Man minimates they've done, just a helmet swap away from being perfect. Thor was a huge improvement over the previous fat Thor and probably my favorite comic Thor they've made. Wolverine was one of the better versions they've done and the only representation of that specific costume. Those were A-listers worth making.
  16. Looks like all the Spider-Man movie minimates, including the SDCC exclusive, are BOGO 40% on TRU's website.
  17. There's a price scanner right near the MLs at one of my local Wal-marts so I did some checking today. GotG Vol.2 Wave 1 (Titus) figures were all regular price. The Juggernaut X-Men wave and Rhino and Absorbing Man Spider-Man waves all showed $9.
  18. My idea to help the boxset sales: Make two 2-packs and tape them together so the retail price can be $19.99 instead of $24.99.
  19. Well, since you asked... I have zero problem with the selection of characters, I just dislike the results. I loathe that lame, unimaginative Bruce Lee ripoff Iron Fist costume. Cage and Daredevil have only slightly better bad costumes. I think Jessica Jones isn't as good as the Netflix version though I understand taking a different approach to differentiate the two. I like Purple Man well enough, he's just not that exciting and I'll probably end up putting him in a suit and tie instead. Quake is only okay, the gauntlet reuse takes away the one point of interest I have in the design and I'm really not that enamored with the BAF concept to begin with. I probably wanted this Moon Knight as much as anyone besides Kostis but I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the results. The hood looks bad, the way it comes together with the cape makes it seem like both parts are re-purposed from other figures even though they're new to this one, I still think the figures needs at least sculpted chest armor to capture the look correctly, and he needs a baton and throwing moons instead of a staff (though I suppose there may be more accessories than we've seen or they could change). It's an example of "good enough" design which I'm afraid might be becoming a trend. Punisher is an excellent minimate that I'll be happy to add to my collection. So out of nine figures there's one I really like, one I'm disappointed in but will end up getting (no choice since he's packed with the one I really like), two that are are slight positives (and one being a BAF makes it less attractive), one I don't care about either way, and four that I dislike to varying degrees. That equals disappointment. Another thing would be that if this is an example of DST treating movie/TV and comic characters as interchangeable, well, I really dislike that idea because it's exactly the opposite of how I feel about collecting. I think that's true of the vast majority of collectors, maybe the rest of the market thinks differently. Now, if Netflix Defenders just aren't selling as well as hoped and 75 is a replacement that's a different story.
  20. Well, that makes me dislike 75 just a little bit more.
  21. I think the smiley face requires another license. It's been an issue with other Comedian figures, at least if I'm remembering correctly.
  22. Since the Ragnarok boxset has said December/January for a release date everywhere I've looked I figured the rest would be similar but I don't think anyone will complain about getting product earlier.
  23. As far as release timing goes it's worth keeping in mind that everything that was revealed in the last few weeks probably won't be hitting before December (the Iron Fist boxset is the only Marvel minimates product currently on the ship dates list) at the earliest, unless DST is going to manage things out surprisingly quickly. That leaves a lot of product in the first six months of next year.
  24. The Epic Collections are also a good way to go. Probably more expensive than the Essential collections but they do have color.
  25. The missing blue on the arms was the same on the regular figure so while I don't like it I can't say it's a surprise. Vulture is just too heavy for the legs and flight stand to hold out for too long. It's annoying but I'm not sure how it could be otherwise given the design of the costume. How is anyone not having issues with the stands? I've had that problem consistently for about a year now, a few Predators being the only exception I can think of. I've assumed they started using a new tool for either the feet or stands and the tolerances just don't line up.
