  1. Well, I still feel really dumb for posting this as my entry, especially considering that someone else already did it... but considering the amount of work I had already put into it, and the lack of free time I have to work on anything else, I'm going to stick with this: As I said before, my entry is different enough from Kilgore's that I can somewhat justify the fact that it's a duplicate. And the fact that it required so many customs, I figured it would be a safe bet that nobody else would have used it (dumb donny), and that also would have justified using an X Men cover, despite all the negative thoughts about them *shrugs* Oh well. Anyway, everything in my entry was totally recreated, except for the Marvel Logo (which I basically copy-and-pasted, with some small tweeking)... the background is all sculpey, with some fun texturing techniques. All of the powers are done through photoshop, and a few touchups or minor additions to the characters were done via photoshop. All in all, it was an insane amount of work that I never want to repeat ever again.
  2. "holy crap" indeed... that is freaking amazing! A true work of art...
  3. Hooray! That is very cool, indeed. Keeping a site updated for 3 years is quite an achievement. The minimate community would not be the same without Minimate Central!
  4. Yeah, I have to agree. When I first saw it, that was the one thing that popped out to me right away. I was very impressed - I never would have thought to do that. *thumbs up*
  5. Yeah, I thought about it for a while. When I first saw your entry, I had decided that I wasn't going to finish mine, and I would begin working on a different cover. Cuz really, you obviously put a lot of work into this, and the last thing I would want is to (by some far chance) win with something that somebody already did. I just wouldn't feel right about that at all. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that not only have I already put in a massive amount of work on my version of this cover, but my end result is going to look fairly different from yours. And add that to the fact that, with the amazing work that we've already seen from other competitors, I doubt I could place in the top three regardless... Well, needless to say, I came to the conclusion that I will continue work on mine after all... At the very least, I will have an entry that I know I put my best effort into And thanks for your consent Kilgore I know that finding out that someone else is doing the same entry that you have already submitted can be a little frustrating...
  6. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I wanted to do a couple different astonishing x men covers, but i really dont feel like doing all the work of making customs of minis that are going to be released *relatively* soon... *sigh*
  7. I was planning on doing this cover, and I wanted to check and make sure that it would be allowed first before doing any work on it. So I asked Ady, and he said that it is definitely allowed, because it is a gatefold (foldout) cover. Yes, it was separate variant covers, but it also was released as one foldout cover. I guess that alone makes it viable. *shrugs*
  8. Yeah, I picked up the $30 airbrush kit from Wal Mart. I know nothing about airbrushes, but I wanted to do a better job of painting my mini customs than what I was accomplishing with a paint brush. I figured that since I wasn't persuing any kind of profession with that specific medium, I wasnt going to spend too much money getting something that was decent quality if I could get something that was good enough. I guess it depends on how serious you are about it - how good of a job you want to do. For me, the airbrush I got does a perfect job for what I want it for. But I havent used it for any kind of detail work. It would definitely be horrible for that...
  9. Nah, it's been like that. What I do in order to see it is right click on the image and go down to 'properties' ... from there, highlight and copy the image address and then paste it into the address bar on your browser. Then you can see it
  10. Silver Surfer kinda looks like an alien (the 'little green men' type) dipped in a vat of liquid metal... and Hulk reminds me a little of south park. But I kinda sorta like them a little... sorta...
  11. There are varying views... some people who liked the first hated the second. Some people who liked the first loved the second. Some people who hated the first found a bit more to like in the second. Etc etc... My personal opinion is that the second is a bit better than the first. It could have been better, for sure. But I think they learned a bit from the process of making the first one. There's less need for introducing key players, so they were able to delve into the character development aspect a bit more. They didn't do that enough, IMO, but at least they made the attempt. Hulk played a much smaller role, Iron Man made a costume change, Thor had a bit of a motive change from the first movie (going from environmental activist with reserves about being on the team, to being willing to make a decently big sacrifice in order to help his new friends), several people said 'I love you', Cap embraced a slightly darker mood, and one big character died. The special features are worth watching. The bloopers (which include scenes from both the first and second movies) were actually somewhat funny. And the featurette on The Ultimates was a good watch All in all, my personal input is that this movie takes it up a small notch. But it still could have been better. Take it or leave it
  12. Totally sweet! I have to say, only 10 hours of work is pretty good for a movie that long. I tried stop motion once and put in a ridiculous amount of time and it wasn't nearly as good (or as lengthy) as that. And yes, the ending is great *two thumbs way up!*
  13. I grew up loving Marvel and wishing that they would buy out DC so that they could actually do some cool stuff with the characters. Nowadays, Marvel still has first place for me... but I am coming to appreciate DC a lot more. I don't know if I will ever actually switch over, because Marvel will always have my childhood hero; the super powered man that I always longed to be - Spiderman. That will always make the Marvel Universe special to me. But then, my loyalties were never really to a company per se; it was always more to the characters. DC has been doing great things with their characters recently. And while I was once a Marvel-only guy, I have been finding myself picking up more and more DC stories, simply because they truly are doing a great job over there.
  14. It's just too bad that the hat is going to add perceptive height... so he's still going to 'seem' taller than he is...
  15. I think I will most likely pick up a Hulk, since I have several duplicates of Iron Man and have somewhat easy access to finding new Captain Americas, but I can only find Hulk once in a while (I don't care enough about the change of painting details to allow myself to collect them as variants)... but I may change my mind once I see Cap's face.
  16. Some of those look pretty sweet! I was just thinking the other day how a Lobo minimate might look - and that one custom is exceptional, especially considering it was made totally of pre-made parts. Just one question, though - what was the skirt for Supergirl made from? *btw - I think that's probably my favorite of all the entries so far, minus the fact that her skirt doesn't exactly cover her *ahem*
  17. Sounds odd to me. I compared my John Stewart next to all my other minimates, and it's the same size. It does look a little small when standing next to Classic Wolverine, but I'm thinking that's just because of the mask. When I took the mask off, he was the same height...
  18. True enough. That should teach me to actually read the article instead of jumping straight to the pictures...
  19. I'm just surprised they didn't do a Spiderman or Wolverine... (Of course, now that I've said that, they'll pop out 3 of each)
  20. I dont have a good comic store near me, either. But I dont like paying shipping charges if I dont have to, so I usually go to my local Barnes & Noble or the book store in my local mall. Every major chain book store I've ever been to (B&N, Borders, Waldenbooks, etc) has a decent variety of TPB's... Other than that, if I have to use the internet, I check Amazon.com - cuz usually if I buy a couple at a time from there, I can get the 'super saver shipping' option...
  21. As odd of a choice as that seems to me (and let me tell you - it seems odd ) , I actually can see him pulling it off. For some reason, I have this picture of him in my head doing that crazy lunatic smile very VERY convincingly...
