  1. The mod podge experiment was a success! It smells and looks exactly like Elmer's glue, but a bit more watery. It dries clear and gives the appearance of a water slide decal or sticker. Upon a closer look and under a light source you'll notice a sheen and brush strokes, but nothing that distracts from the figure. A great way to add color printouts to any mate...and the ink won't bleed or fade. Overall, I'm happy with the end result- I'm applying the same technique to my customs from here on out. Glad I gave it a try.
  2. Here's a few they could start with from Heroclix:
  3. Getting so close- here's the Jessica and Roger Rabbit decals I created. I had to rescale both twice. Jessica's eyes were too small, Roger's were too tall. Did a test print and it really makes the figure.
  4. never read super dinosaur, but if that means dinosaur minimates- I could easily turn those in Jurassic Park customs.
  5. I spotted these at my TRU two weeks ago. Looked great...but had to pass them up. Wonder if they are still there? I took all the action league figures I had sitting atop my shelves at work and brought them home for my daughter to play with in the imaginext Batcave.
  6. The characters would make for some great looking minimates. I stopped reading after the 3rd hardcover....then I started Walking Dead. I'd pick those up if they made them, two in fact if they had new sculpted pieces. Always on the look out for uniquely sculpted pieces/parts for customs too.
  7. If we do get Invincible mates- I wonder how many costumes of Mark we'll see?
  8. Thanks Boyd. Hob-Lob has the 40% any one item this week so I'm taking along a minimate and seeing what I find there. Maybe a employee will actually understand what I'm talking about and provide some pointers. I'll report back with my findings after lunch. Thanks!
  9. What does PVA stand for? Is that what's on the packaging? I'm confused, but appreciate the advice. Thanks!
  10. What ever happened to the Father and Son's minimates line? Does anyone else remember that odd concept? Why was it scrapped? That would have opened the flood gates to all the mini-minimate children figure we all want- along with some great everyday accesories no doubt. I can understand why the minimate zombies line was scrapped- to act as a spring board for Walking Dead, but I think the kid scale minimate is a missed opportunity.
  11. I was wondering how that worked too. Was thinking of pooling together with two buddies of mine to buy a kit and seeing what develops. I always had the idea to disassemble a minimate and then cast the parts to have a blank figure to use for customs (rather than constantly buying con exclusive blank mates). Not sure if that would be more expensive in the long run. Would also love to try sculpting pieces out of apoxie sculpt and then casting those. Interested to see what you come up with if you do proceed. In the meantime, I'll be experimenting with mod podge and posting my results in that thread.
  12. Heading out to Hobby Lobby today to pick some up. I'll report back when I start to experiment with it.
  13. After 25 years, (1987) I FINALLY found the long lost Benny the Cab action figure and here it is, next to the Delorean to give you an idea of the scale: Apparently, the company LJN stopped producing the toy and only a few were made. I never saw this as a kid until now. I also didn't know that there were two scales in the line- one was flexies (5 inch) and animates (2 inch). Both figures were poor quality- rubber with a thin bendable wire inside used to pose them. I destroyed my roger rabbit not too long after I received it for my 7th birthday- but happily continued playing with it as there were no other figure lines at the time....hence, the want to recreate the line in minimate form. Benny is the perfect fit for minimates and can seat one figure inside (two can fit, but it's an tight squeeze). My plan was to make him entirely out of Apoxie but this saves me the time and effort. I love this toy. More pics to come along with the characters....stay tooned!
  14. That is perfect!!! I'd love to pick that up for my Left 4 Dead customs to recreate the farmhouse finale. Does that house have a removable roof or open up?
  15. I guess it's actually mod podge that you use- decoupage is the term to describe it. Does that help?
  16. New hope, Luke.... Nice Star Wars ref!
  17. Had a co-worker ask me how I make my minimates and I told her i use regular printer paper and use rubber cement to place it on the figure. She then asked if I had ever tried decoupage. I hadn't. Has anyone ever tried decoupaging a minimate? I'd love to hear if it was successful or not.
  18. I never collected Battle Beasts- but I do remember the icon revealing chest plate. Wasn't that how the original line worked? You'd press on it to reveal fire, wood, water, or air and compare it against your opponents. I know DST probably didn't have the rights to that dated technology but it would've been nice to see it incorporated some way- even it if was just a square plate with the symbol on it. Just got the Vorin and Zik 2 pack myself along with the comic. What a great idea- as an adult I appreciate having both, but as a kid receiving both of these I'd go nuts. And the sculpting? Holy Smokes- these really aren't even minimates anymore are they? So blown away by the leaps and bounds Minimates have made since there original tampo days. Really amazing work being churned out by this company and I know I'm usually the one on this forum that generally complains about 'this figure not being made' but they always keep me coming back and more importantly, wanting more.
  19. Cho'd is amazing. All sculpted I take it?
  20. From the shot Zach posted on Facebook- Reed's costume won't match up with existing FF'ers, at least the most recent wave- the blues are too different (a light blue for wave 8 from the TRU wave)- plus the decal on this 'best of' reed isn't quite as ripped as that of wave 8. Here's hoping we'll get a 'best of' sue to match Reed in the near future. I've bought almost every variation on the costume (except future foundation) glad to see there's so many to choose from.
  21. Is that a stretched neck piece I see with mr. Fantastic?
  22. Let me be the first to say: Really slick layout and design. I can tell a lot of work and planning when into this. Looks fantastic! Great work!!
