  1. Now that I have seen the bear, it's gotta be between the bear and the shark for my favorite. After seeing the control art for several of these, I have to say that I am very happy with how they turned out in figure form. The cow looks great. I am glad to see that the pitchfork accessory stayed in. I love that little bit of humor to him. The cheetah also looks really nice. Looks sleek and fast. Anubis really surprised me. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about him, but he came out looking really nice. I still plan to have two of him, one in full armor. A sort of battle mode Anubis if you will. I love the repaint of the bat. Really great color choices on him, and pretty spot on to how I would have painted him if I repainted a bat. I am not sure about the bird on the right, however it's not a very clear photo yet. I'll reserve any judgement of him until I get to see a pic up close. Do we know if this is a Specialty Store series or TRU, or even if there's going to be a difference between LCS and TRU for series 2?
  2. Thanks Luke! They posted pics of the series 2 Battle Beasts on their facebook page.
  3. Thanks for all the kind words everybody! I really appreciate it. It's always motivating to me to keep going when I see that people like the work that I am doing. YB, the lizard is a combination of two parts. The hat is from the Man in Black minimate from the "For a Few Dollars More" boxed set. The lizard head itself is just a rubber head from a lizard toy I think I got at the zoo sometime ago. I then drilled in a female peg hole to fit the round ball joint for a minimate head, and sculpted the back portion of the head to remove the harsh cuts and flat spots from cutting the head off of the lizard body. UK C, Rango was definitely an inspiration to me. I love that movie. For me, I made him as a combination between Clint Eastwood in the dollars trilogy mixed with Rango. But this lizard is completely confident in is capabilities. Again, thanks for the compliments everyone. Also, tomorrow is the night that the Hot Wings Merk will be handed out at the restaraunt I believe? If anyone is able to pick up an extra, please let me know. Thanks again!
  4. My dad is Yankton Sioux, so I definitely made it with some pride.
  5. Hey guys, Here are two customs that I made with some bits I got this year at C2E2. Since I already painted up a Rattle Snake and made a desert jumping spider, I decided to continue my desert/western theme that I have going. First off, I made a beast that's an homage to Clint Eastwood in the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, in the form of a desert lizard. I chose this specific breed as the spikes on his face mirror Clint's five o'clock shadow in the movie. I also used the oversized gator feet to represent western cowboy boots. The second figure is a Merk/falcon repaint where I tried to give him more of a southern Arizona desert feel to him, with a little bit more of a native american flair to him. So I have a desert lizard, falcon, rattle snake and jumping spider. Next, I plan on doing my own paint jobs on the tarantula and scorpion. Let me know what you guys think.

  7. Haha, I would love that. Have a nice little label with a minimate blank on fire or something. Maybe I'll make something up for a contest or something like that later this year.
  8. Hahah, I'm working on them. I am making a pretty nice little pair of customs that have a very nice western/clint eastwood type feel to them with those ponchos. The lizard is all done with all the kitbashing/sculpting, and has gotten some base coats. Merk was a bit of a challenge to get him to wear his poncho but still have his wings, but just today, I got it to work. Now I can start painting him.
  9. Oh man, I was excited about the purple Merk before, but a Hot Wings Merk!? That orange looks fantastic on him. Gives him a very phoenix/bird of fire look to him. This is extra special for me with the name Hot Wings. Hot Wings (or buffalo wings) are typically made with Cayenne hot sauce, giving them that orange/red color to them that we see here on Merk. They are one of the signature foods for hot sauces. And if there is something I collect almost as much as Battle Beasts, it's hot sauces. I have tried over one thousand different, unique hot sauces from all around the world. I have traveled to different hot sauce meccas around the country to sample hot sauces at the source, New Orleans being my favorite. I have a collection at home of close to 300 different hot sauces. And I have a pepper garden where I grow 32 different types of chili peppers and sweet peppers. In the late summer and fall, I harvest the peppers and make my own hot sauces, salsas, etc... I am a pretty big fan of hot sauce, as well as battle beasts. And to have a battle beast promo named/themed after a signature hot sauce food. Man, I'm ecstatic. It's a combination of two of my passions that I never thought would exist. If anyone is going to the show/restaurant, and you end up with an extra Hot Wings Merk that you would be willing to part with, please let me know! If not, hopefully these little buggers show up on ebay after the show.
  10. I was so excited to hear that they are fully moving forward with Series 2 of Battle Beasts, including a new comic book. While we got to see some control art with new designs at the C2E2 panel, it still didn't feel like a definite confirmation of series 2. Glad to hear more concrete news. Over the past couple days, I have been taking around the beasts and posing them for some photos. Didn't have much time to post them until now. Really just messing around and having a bit of fun with them. Really wanted to set up a bunch of the snakes and spiders before I start taking some of them apart and converting them into custom characters. Here are a few of them, and then I'll have more to post in a little while. Snake ambush in the grass: Duel up in the trees: Like a fly caught in a spider's web: Some pics of Merk flying around: Where my spiders like to have their weekly meetings:
  11. Purple Shadow Merk is awesome! I'll have to wait for the secondary market, but really looking forward to getting one of these in hand. That's a really nice color on him. And it's good to hear that his availability will be similar to the Blue Vorin. I was able to pick him up last year online without too many problems. All the exclusives that I have seen coming out of SDCC look great.
  12. Oh man, I'd love another create a beast contest.
  13. I love that vorjn. The jacket works really nicely with him. I have a custom in the works that i think all of you will like. Just have to get the paint job finished
  14. I like it! Great transformers/decepticon feel to it. Great Scorponok reference.
  15. Gah, I went to TRU this weekend a couple times, and wasn't able to find them yet. And I won't be able to go again until next weekend. I am hoping they will stay in the store long enough until then. I haven't been following the marvel releases recently. How quickly are these IM3 sets going to sell? I'd like to be able to pick up a set of the armors for some customizing. Especially the heartbreaker and silver centurion armors. And after seeing the movie this weekend, there are several other armors that I think would really translate well to minimate form.
  16. MM, did you still need one, I have an extra one on hand if you do.
  17. I should if someone else can't help you out.
  18. I am in for a meet up next year at C2E2. I got each year, and it seems each year I am more involved than the previous year. I got to meet a few of you guys, but it seems like I missed some of you as well. Usually, it's pretty easy for me to get time off for the convention, so my schedule should be pretty open. Nervous, I loved talking to you about your customs. You have some amazing figures there. I'll have to bring some of my work along with me next year.
  19. Congratulations Boyd! That's fantastic. From the work that I have seen here, it's well deserved. I'm sure you're having a great time with it. Painting toys as a job has always been a dream job of mine. And I'll be in the picture next year. Me and my wife had to help some people move Saturday morning, and then we had a long drive in. But I was soo worried about missing the panel, which I was hoping would have Battle Beast designs in it, that we went straight to the panel. And after all that time, we had to use the restroom so bad that we had to duck out immediately after the panel. But next year, I'll be there for sure for any pics.
  20. I had a great time at C2E2 this year. I got to meet Zach, Nervous and YouBastards. All three of them were great guys, and a lot of fun to talk to about minimates, customizing and toys in general. Hopefully I'll be able to meet more of you next year. It was a lot of fun to see the whole minimate exhibit. Since I am relatively new with minimates, there were a lot of minimates that I just hadn't ever seen before this show. I have to say that I really liked the 3" figures. They had a nice weight to them and were fairly easy to set up and get to stand. However, with that said, I much prefer the 2" line for the minimates that I like to collect. It was also crazy to see how many marvel figures have been produced, and yet I'm sure that was only a fraction of them. As for new minimates, I was really excited to see the Iron Man 3 minimates. All the different armor designs look really nice. Especially the Iron Patriot and the bulkier red armor. I liked the new additions to the tomb raider line. Initially I wasn't too interested, but the Oni general armor looks fantastic. It has a really nice samurai armor feel to it that is going to work really well for some future customs. And what I was most excited for were the Battle Beasts. A lot of great new designs were shown. A cheetah, hammerhead shark, giraffe, cow, Anubis and Ulin the human antagonist at the end of the comic. Really hoping the comic book series continues and that we see more of these figures. Again, great time at the show. Really looking forward to seeing you guys again next year.
  21. Man, soo many cow puns. Maybe I need to moove on over to another board until you have had your fill. I was beyond excited to see the new control art. A lot of great looking figures there. Battlecat, that pic you have looks a lot like the cow control we had. And he comes with a pitchfork as a weapon. I know that I am going to have to make a custom bell to hang around his neck. Maybe him and the Moose with his horn can start some type of odd, hoofian band. The shark in your pic looks similar, although if my memory serves me correctly, I thought I remember the shark being a bit beefier (that was unintentional) than he looks in this pic. The Giraffe was a pleasant surprise. He has a really great look to him. Sleek, tall, and has a good, consistant armor design to him. If you told me ahead of time about a giraffe, it would probably be at the bottom of my want list, however, seeing the art for the figure has really turned that around in my eyes. Also, because his armor is so consistent, symmetrical and didn't seem too reliant on a specific animal type, I think the giraffe would be a popular choice for making some other custom beasts. I didn't see if his legs are specifically hoofed feet, but regardless, he would work well for a number of animals with a simple head swap and new paint. The cheetah had a great look to him. Sleek and fast. He was on the first slide with the shark and wasn't up for long, admittedly most of my attention was on the shark. Anubis looked good. He looked exactly like what he looks like in the comic. However, for my tastes, I'll probably get two, and ditch the clothes on the second one in favor of full battle armor. Nonetheless, he looked pretty fantastic. The human (I forget his name) at the end of the comic that uses the dread weapons also looks pretty nice. There are a lot of great accessories in clear red that show off him using the weapons very nicely. I could imagine someone using his parts to make a nice Atrocitus custom to battle against the old green lantern minimates. Really hoping this line does well enough to continue going for several waves. And instead of getting a new Vorin, instead, do another ram in Vorin's father, along with his comrades on the last page of the comic. That would be a sweet series 3.
  22. No problem! I had a great time and was very happy that I could help. I got to do more than I was expecting, which was great! Can't wait to get to the show on Saturday. Hopefully I don't miss the panel.
  23. Wow, I just realized that this post exists. Anyways, my user name is simple, it's my favorite Battle Beast. I also use it as the name for my repaints, since both are symbols of change. At some other boards, my user name is: koppenschevelle. That goes way back to when I first signed up my first message board at Team Chevelle. I was 17, and my first car was a 1967 Chevelle. So I just made a name that was my last name owning a chevelle.
  24. Zach, I might be available tomorrow if you still need help. I pm'd you. Just let me know.
  25. Thanks everyone for running this. And I was beyond thrilled to get a 1st, a 2nd and an honorable mention for my first year participating. Thanks again!
