  1. I've been a fan of Byrne's a long time. Sticking a character like he really liked but got turned down for into the background of a piece like that is totally in character for him.
  2. This is the point my old pal TM2 Dinobutt would fuss, loudly and longly, about not wanting redoes of old characters as opposed to unmade characters getting a shot. So in your mind, or memory for those who read the originals, let's insert an epic and entertaining rant on the subject here in our mind's eye.

    Go check those corners, Apone.
  4. Gosh... so hard to see why Jim and Chris didn't go for that brilliant idea... Nothing scarier that tribble on steroids that animates chairs. Sorry we didn't appreciate your genius, John.

Don't heap too much praise yet. Wait'll I hijack some perfectly good thread to discuss some insignificant point of minutia and wont let it go until some nice admin comes to politely tap me on the shoulder. And that Biblical phrase is literally how I got my nickname. Heeeeeeeey... BIG thank you to whoever installed this on the emoticon list while I was gone!!! Now I don't need to remember where the one I used to import got put.
  6. Hiring a fanboy of the material can be dangerous too. Aside from a different twist ending, Synder did as loving and straight panel to screen adaptation of any comics movie as I've ever seen with Watchman... and it still didn't make for a good movie. Last I had heard before that article, Zach, was that Infinity War and a second Spider-Film was all Sony had agreed to and they were waiting to see how Venom did to make up their minds on a further partnership. It was part of either the Venom or Silver and Black announcement.
  7. Fear the wrath of Spare-Parts-Man... er... the Vulture!!

Aaaaaand we've officially digressed... So unlocking the best guess, we have... [unmade story specific Avenger variant]/ [unmade helmet and armor wearing alien Hulk villain] [Thor variant] / [classic near naked Asgardian villain] [unmade Legacy Avenger] / [Spider-Verser] [unmade story specific Avenger variant] / [Avenger/X-Man variant] two of them are female, two are villains, two are heroes with villainous leanings Still think- Planet Hulk / Red King is a good guess.
  9. Movie execs. Remember, any movie, tv show, or even a commercial... someone convinced a room full of people that it was a good idea to do that, and they gave that someone the money to do it. Unfortunately... once people give you money, they expect to have some say, which is how you get the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Spider-Man 3 and the Fantastic Four reboot.
  10. And we have a White Queen/Emma Frost That while not bad... some parts of it did not age well, especially not the hairpiece. Selene's hair piece is the best compromise I guess they could find for that cape. The Kings and Bishops of the Inner Circle are no where to be found. (No, Essex as Shaw from X-Men First Class does NOT count. I mean, has anyone ever felt truly threatened by Kevin Bacon?)

As ugly as the Crossing was, as painful as Heroes Reborn was, what came after Busiek left was far, far worse. As much as I hated Dissasembled and a lot of the New Avengers era, as little as it feels like the Avengers most of the time, it's an improvement over post Busiek dreck.
  12. Iceman had wandered into Marvel Limbo for a lot of the Byrne/Claremont years. Literally quit heroing to become an accountant. Still not closer to ID'ing what looks for all the world like an apeman in an X-Men training uniform.

    PREACH IT, HP! PREACH IT!!!
  14. I... don't know... Guess the only logical thing to do is spend some time re-reading the entire Claremont/Byrne era till I figure it out. Nothing immediately springs to mind. Having observed Byrne's sense of "thumb in your eye" humor, it could be some plot he wanted to do, but got vetoed by Shooter, and he snuck it in that picture. I also note that since Emma called attention to the fact she's had work done, clearly she got them after this "picture" was "taken".
  15. So Heimdall get two minimates overall, Frandral and Hogun get none, and we're potentially getting two different Surturs this year? What an odd, odd time. And thanks, Zach.
  16. Although I am an Avengers guy through and through, I wouldn't mind a wave of PAD X-Factor minimates. And the classic Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club (Shaw, Selene, Frost, Lelland, and Pierce) But not before we complete at least one lineup of the Master of Evil.

You are not wrong. At this point I should think of Hulk as an Avenger. But then, I should think of Spider-Man as an Avenger now too, instead of the guy they keep asking and it keeps not working out. But then, every "classic" Avenger (everyone who joined before v1 #100) still defaults to being drawn by big John Buscema in my mind's eye so be patient with this "old man". (Don't hold your breathe for me to ever think of Wolverine or Deadpool as Avengers, sorry. My mind simply cannot go there. Storm, Rogue and Cannonball will register as Avengers in my head someday. Those two? No.)
  18. Sadly, no. Fur's a little too gray, there's green peeking out the edges, hair needs some black around the sides. And he looks ticked off. Ironically, the mischievous smile on the Skrull's face fits much better to the Beast side. But Sadly, that Skrull will have to do for the foreseeable. And sadly I would buy a Recorder/Moses Magnum, Jahf/Farouk, and just about any other combo up there. But ESPECIALLY a Ka-Zar/Zabu pack!!
  19. We've had a good number of Hank McCoys over the years.... but I still want THAT Beast. No Cats, No Skrull faces on the back of his head, No giant 90's hair, No jackets and leather leggings. Just the bouncing bombastic Beast I grew up with in all his Byrne/Perez glory!!!!!!!!!!!

Planet Hulk / Red King [Thor variant] / Surtur Ironheart / [Spider-Verser] [unmade Avenger variant] / Rogue There... adjusted elhonez's guess. And it still has two of Buffalo's guesses in there. Ya know, I'm going to show my age a bit here... but I still have trouble thinking of Hulk as an Avenger. For most of my prime comics reading years, he was much more frequently an Avengers opponent or a Defender than he ever was an Avenger. And then came the movie, and now he's suddenly a mainstay of the team he founded then stomped away from. Even when I thought of Red King, Hulk as unmade story specific Avenger variant never occurred. Of course now the Defenders are Avengers and the Defenders look more like the Heroes for Hire... but again, I am old... And thanks, guys. Good to see you two too.

Experience tells me don't bet against elhonez being very close to right.
  22. Unfortunately they've established the full-head helmets are needed to breathe when shrinking... because shrinking someone is one thing and apparently letting them breathe normally at reduced size is a bridge too far for believability. Not happy about it either. as an aside... I know it's unrealistic, but a part of me wishes that Jan could be portrayed by Kathleen Turner.
  23. Shrug... They pulled off Ghost Rider and Absorbing Man. I think they can handle these guys. Frankly, Medusa constantly manipulating her hair would be more of a visual distraction than anything else. I'm more concerned as to whether or not they can make it interesting to watch than I am working these effects on a TV budget. I know Pearlman loves them, I know Marvel is pushing them as their new mutant alternative, but the Royal Family hasn't been interesting enough to carry an ongoing comic longer than a year or two in their long, long history. They are like DC's New Gods characters, people think they're cool, but not enough to spend money consistently on them. Oh I'll watch it, and with high hopes. But if AoS doesn't cross over with it pretty heavy, it'll have a strong strike against it. It's all disconnected badly enough already.

Upon staring at my ceiling fan for what felt like hours last night, I think Buff's one of two correct guesses are unworthy Thor/Odinson. It's been stated one of the Avenger variants is Thor. Key hint is modern, most of Thor's other memorable story specific looks have either been made or are from decades ago. Only other recent unmade Thor would be Volstagg's "War Thor", but that might be too recent. Back to thinking some version of Kaine is the Spider-verse character. I believe he changed identities again recently, with his brother being back. And IMO the Asgardian is either Surtur or Ulik. And Ulik is probably wishful thinking on my part. Gor doesn't quite fit, because while he wears very little, he's not from the nine realms and is probably too recent to be considered classic. Is Planet Hulk still considered recent? If so the Red King is a strong candidate. The X-Man/Avenger is likely Rogue or Deadpool. Kinda sick of Deadpool variants, but I'm apparently in the minority. HydraCap and Ironheart are both strong guesses, but if both are true then there's no solid Thor... unless you rebrand Odinson "HydrAvenger Thor" or something. And that feels like cheating.
  25. You mean like Curt Conners being in all 3 Rami films?
