  1. You can preorder them right now at AFX for the normal price right now, if you so desire.
  2. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense, since it's the one Logan variant that people might want. Just reminds me what a terrible lineup that "Wolverine thru the Ages" box is. I echo Boyd's comments about Chakaal. Just as good as your Groo. DST, please make some Indymates from, y'know, good comics! We'll buy them!
  3. I hate it when I have the perfect parts for a custom, but they just don't quite work together. Like, the hand just won't stay in the arm, or the mask doesn't fit over the head, or the things got M.F.N.S (Minimate Floppy Neck Syndrome). I've got one custom in which the legs won't stay in the torso! Never saw that one before....
  4. In this month's Q&A, Chuck answered my question about the fate of the Spirit. I was actually planning to do the same thing you did and contact AFX, but I guess that's a no-go as well. Such a shame.
  5. Also, any announcement about BSG Minimates is not likely to "break the internet in half", since they obviously didn't make all that much of an impression on the masses the first time around. Really, the only things that might do that are the return of DC 'mates or Star Wars 'mates, finally. But it's probably not that big. Personally, I'm betting on the Secret Wars box set lineup announcement. BTW, I was one of the questioners this time around; I asked the question about the Spirit comics 'mates (and sent it to the wrong address, so I'm glad Chuck still answered it). It's really a shame these have stalled....
  6. Wow, a gift is one thing, but Nightcrawler?! That's like a $40 'mate right there. Quick, tell me what you preordered so I can get one too!
  7. Well, Marvel just announced a Super Hero Squad Modok; at least it's sorta close (if smiling)....
  8. Wow, that's a simple change that makes him look a lot better! I actually ended up doing something similar with my Villains box set Skull; I needed his hands for a custom, so I stuck some extra Robin gloves I had laying around on him, and it really worked well. The moral of the story is: we need more big gloves (not to mention boots)!
  9. Yeah, my comics shop suggested the same thing, but I don't think that's the case, because there've been reports on here that people have not been able to find them in one store, then driven to another and found them. I really wish someone from DST would let us know what's going on....
  10. What I'm talking about doesn't involve cutting, but I wasn't talking about putting something in his back, rather around his waist. But I also wasn't thinking of using that honkin' big sword that Skaar comes with.
  11. One of the great things about Minimates is that you don't need any customizing skills to do some really great customs. This one is no exception; all I did was put a few parts together. Trust me, I don't have much more skill then you do. But thanks!
  12. Nah! Looks like Kara Thrace from BSG series 3. I said maybe! But I think you're right. Good call.
  13. Nice use of the Parker jacket. I recognize that face, but I can't place it. Clarice from Silence of the Lambs, maybe?
  14. Mystery Man, I'm the exact same kind of customizer. We shall get along well, sir. When I was first putting a Conan custom together, I was going to use the belt that came with Frodo, which has a hole for a scabbard to fit into. Unfortunately, of course, Frodo's sword is a little shrimpy. But I found that the scabbard for Legolas fit in perfectly. I've been hoping, when I finally get Skaar, that I'll somehow be able to fit that belt on top of his little skirt. I doubt it, but you never know. Maybe if you put the scabbard around to his back?
  15. It's from one of the BSG Razor Cylons. I also have stuck on the water spout that came with Hydro Man to the end of the gun; it looks really cool, but I can't get him to stand with it long enough to snap a picture.
  16. I have had my parts for Conan set aside from the moment I first saw Skaar. I'm using Hawkman's head, the Kraven torso that's under the powerhouse piece, and, well, arms and legs (dunno where they came from). Now I just have to find Skaar. It's killin' me! I want my Conan!
  17. My shop still didn't get anything in, so I asked them to look into what's going on. I really wish someone from Diamond would just pop in here to say "Don't worry guys, they just didn't ship in full".
  18. Hellboy is terrific. Are you taking commissions? 'Cause I'd like one.
  19. Thanks! The hardest part (if one follows my formula) will actually be acquiring extra Lex Luthors, I believe. Freeze is actually in stock on TRU.com, but Luthor is harder to come by. Yesterday I was bidding on (and winning) the only available one on eBay, to replace the one I used for this. Between my posting this and the end of the auction, it went from .99 to $13. Coincidence? Of course, there are several other figures with big gloves and boots that would work well. Cylons, obviously, and there are several Iron Men to choose from. Now that I think about it, Apocalypse might be even better; he's a figure I don't own, so I didn't consider him. That big "A" on his belt is a sticking point, though.
  20. Yes! I figured out how to do that and modified the post. Sorry about that....
  21. I started a new thread in the customizing board, so check him out: Hellpop's Custom Mister Freeze
  22. So I started a thread about this on the DC/C3 board, but now that I've actually made the custom, I guess I should post the photos, huh? Anyway, this came about a few months ago, when I found the Imaginext Mister Freeze at a Target and immediately began to think about trying to turn it into a Minimate. Wasn't sure it would work, though, so I put him back. My thinking was that I could always pick him up later, not realizing that he was actually fairly rare. So, cut to a few days ago, and I'm looking over my Lex Luthor and thinking about how great his boots and gauntlets would be for Freeze. Now I have a reason to try this! Just need to find a Freeze. Cut to yesterday, and I'm out shopping, and wonder of wonders I come across Freeze at the same Target I saw him so long ago. Guess that's a sign, huh? So my plan is to pull the helmet off and put it over a Minimate. After getting him home and holding a minimate body against Freeze I'm a little unsure that it will work, because the Imaginext figure is so big. But I can see that the helmet is a separate piece, and it actually comes off pretty easy, so I keep going. And, after getting it off and putting it on the sholders of the body I've put together, I can see it's gonna work great. But now there's a new problem: getting a minimate head into the helmet. The problem is that there's a ridge at the bottom keeping me from inserting a head, so I get my exo knife and shave them off. Takes a little while, but in no time I have this: Mister Freeze! One of the cool thing (no pun intended) about Mister Freeze is that he's been redesigned so many times, there isn't the urgency to make him look comics-accurate; I felt free to interpret things a bit. So I ended up using the first Ghost Rider 'mate's body; I think the colors contrast nicely with the purple and blue. I ended up using an extra Spectre head I had laying around; I think Deadman might work better, but you work with what you have. As you can see, the helmet is indeed a little big for a minimate, but I think the oversized boots and gauntlets pull it together. I'm prattling on because this is probably my favorite custom I've done. Best thing is, it's really not all that difficult. And you get this awesome freeze trap! Anyway, now that I've finally popped my customizing photo cherry I'll start posting some more of the stuff I've done.
  23. He was, in fact, the biggest selling character of the Golden Age. I always thought that DC didn't have much of a case (beyond the surface strongmen with dark hair and capes look, there's very little similarity). Apparently, the courts didn't agree. True. Marvel owns the trademark to Captain Marvel. In the '60's, when they heard that DC was negotiating to use the character, they rushed out a character of their own to secure the trademark (I guess they didn't want to try and outbid DC). That's also why Marvel has to have a book with 'Captain Marvel' in the title out every couple of years, or they risk loosing the trademark.
  24. So I went on a shopping trip tonight, and what did I find, but an Imaginex Mr. Freeze. Ironically he was at the same Target that I passed on him two months ago... and that Target has been dead for me, except that I found the two items I wanted to expand my Minimates with, this and the SHS Ghost Rider Motorcycle. So the good news is that the helmet is indeed a separate piece, and I was able to work it off without much of a problem. And, just setting it on the shoulders of a Minimate body, I can see that it's going to work pretty well. I'm using the oversized gloves and boots that came with Lex Luthor, which fit well with the oversize shoulder pads. It even sits pretty nicely on the shoulders. The bad news is that I cannot as of yet force a Minimate head into the helmet. The opening is too narrow; I think I can shave a little of the plastic back, or put it in boiling water so that it will be a little more malleable. But I'm getting the damn head in there somehow! Sorry no pics, as my camera battery needs to be charged. I'll try to snap some (sans head if I have to) tomorrow. UPDATE: Success! Shaving the plastic worked. Mr Freeze is done, and he looks awesome, if I do say so myself. Sooooooooooo glad I did this, he's my new favorite custom (I know I'm prattling on, but I'm pretty jazzed). Like I said, I'll try to get pics up soon, but I'll share my formula now: I used the original Ghost Rider torso, arms, and legs, plus the gloves, boots and belt from Lex Luthor. I tried out some other combinations (such as just all black) but this was my personal favorite. I used an extra Spectre head I had sitting around, and Sharpied his eyes red, and gave him a BSG Razor Cylon's gun for his freeze gun. Unfortunately, the gun that comes with the Imaginext figure won't work for a Minimate (it barely works for the Imaginext figure); I may try out a Ghostbusters proton pack, but this will do for now. And, of course, the helmet. Oh, and I also used the GR head to make Black Mask. Good night for customizing!
