  1. Will there be an announcement soon on TRU3 / BlindBags3 ?
  2. I forget the answer to this: Are Alien 3 & Resurrection part of the licensed material? There are vague rumors that Blomkamp's take on the next Alien sequel may sort of "write those out."
  3. I'd be interested in the Classic Strange from those pics, but I guess I've already kitbashed one.
  4. We are close. SO close, to re-creating this cover. It's my holy grail. No toy line yet has delivered the full set of figures. MiniMates is short only green skirted Marvel Girl to make this happen. Arguably, Angel should have his black boots from the Neal Adams era, but that seems like a pretty easy QC. So big ups for Wave 68 for Sunfire & Banshee. Early 5" ToyBiz lines never delivered a Polaris, and their blue Angel had a blue face. Marvel Legends is catching up, but short a Classic Storm and a Thunderbird.
  5. Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of that. Being swappers would make them harder to get/complete.
  6. Apparently at the panel at SDCC, Chuck called out Blade Runner as a top property he'd like to do. I am 100% behind the idea, if the aforementioned rights stuff can get parsed. I'm loving the cast of the new movie, which includes Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright and Ryan Gosling. Seems like the new movie next year would be a good time to do both new & old 'mates?
  7. Yeah, that's close enough for rock n' roll. And bafflingly close to differentiate one as "hideous" over the other. They didn't have computer coloring back in the day! Cut 'em some slack. @BuffaloD - you had to buy multiple of wave 60 to complete the team too. That's why I pivoted & suggested a "New Mutants Sentinel" army builder with M/F Hellions as the swap figs. You buy multiple, but at least you get army builders out of it, rather than e.g. multiple Pyros.
  8. aww, don't hate on history! This is what the Hellions looked like, for their inaugural years. First appearance Warpath! The analogous kid-squad of the Hellfire Club! But yes, their costumes are... vibrant?
  9. Ha. "Big" MiniMates might be a dead horse, but they'll never stop being beaten. Even when they're just pulp, the ghost of the horse will remain.
  10. This wave looks great! Thanks for sharing the packaged pics Zach. All worthy updates. I think Thunderbird's my favorite, but I like the little touches all around, like Nightcrawler's sword and the posing options for Banshee & Storm.
  11. Yeah, I like Nessex's Thor/Warriors3/Wrecking Crew idea as well. I'd be first in line for something like that. My Hellions idea picks up less on the "2 complete team" aspect, and more on the "encourages multiple purchases" vibe that seemed to drive Wave 60. After some thought, to make it less of a bitter pill for buyers perhaps the White Queen redux in Pack #2 could be replaced by the "New Mutants Style Sentinels": I always dug the blue & gray look that was (fittingly) featured in the New Mutants book. And that way, you wouldn't end up with 3x White Queens lying around in lingerie to complete your Hellions. Better yet, and crazier still: If this were a "traditional" wave with Army Builder, make NM Sentinel the army builder, Female/Male Hellion the swap-fig, and include a two-pack with classic White Queen and Catseye's cat form. The other 2-pack could be a heavy hitter/"anchor" to sell the wave.
  12. I hadn't considered the open collars. But yeah, a chest cap for Proudstar would fix that. I could deal with Empath and Jetstream having the same color, or the chest being slightly off the face color for one of them.
  13. Hellions. Further, they could be done in just two 2-packs. One with a male suited body, alt heads for: Empath, Jetstream, Thunderbird II (Warpath). Paired with: Catseye cat form. [parts for: Jestream's rig] One with a female suited body, alt heads for: Catseye, Roulette, Tarot. Paired with: updated White Queen. [parts for: Catseye's tail, Roulette's disks, Tarot's cards] That awesome & complete New Mutants team needs someone to fight... Plus, as shown above, you can pop their heads on the suited bodies to flesh out the team.
  14. I just got back from San Diego, and was personally psyched to see how Squirrel Girl came out. Given the variance of styles that mates have adopted over the years (from the simplistic early years, to arguably specific artist-inspired cross hatching like the Gambit / Psylocke 2-pack), I don't see these animated mates as significant deviations from the "norm." But YMMV. The whole foundation of minimates is basically cute-ized versions of Marvel characters, with the beautiful irony of being fairly hardcore toys with tons of accessories and articulation. If a design style tilts slightly more toward cell animation than a particular artistic style, I don't find it to be significantly distracting. I respect the varying opinions on this issue, but unmade characters will always top my wish list over re-dos of animated figs that are basically 616-accurate. Also: Hyperion!
  15. I still want the "OG" - GOTG: Vance Astro, Starhawk, Martinex, Yondu, Charlie-27, and Nikki.
  16. I tend to compartmentalize my wish lists by character area/theme, and right now, Thor represents the most "opportunity": THOR Minimates: Surtur Ymir Hela Ulik Mangog Destroyer (comic) Pluto Seth Kurse Executioner Grey Gargoyle Mr. Hyde Cobra Warriors Three: Fandral, Volstagg, Hogun Malekith (comic) Heimdall (comic) Ares (classic) Red Norvell Karnilla Midgard Serpent Balder (Simonson) Sif (classic)
  17. Why is it so hard to find the Search & Rescue two-pack? I can't find any on eBay.
  18. Hmm. That serpent head is giving me ideas...
  19. Oh, funny. I thought I was replying to the latest post, but I guess it was just the first page. My post will seem like a total non sequitur... Valo. Yes. A mirror of the brotherhood wave, pitting the crew against Avengers.
  20. I'm an old fart. I just want some classic loose ends tied up, for crying out loud. Black Knight, Falcon, Banshee, Sunfire, thank you. If you're feeling extra generous, DST, Nighthawk.
  21. "Tiger Fin 1" looks great for Yondu and Tiger Shark. Seems like TF2 will be great for Death Adder and Savage Dragon. Pisces' is serrated, but flows mostly backward. I could take an xacto to either "tiger fin" or #1 to do the trick. That first entry, trimmed, would also work for golden age "The Fin." Great stuff Dave!
  22. Thanks Hellpop! Those legionnaires do look great with that chest cap. I have an idea for a Zeerod as well. I'm thinking Splinter head, Phoenix Buster legs painted silver (mecha zeerod) and maybe cyber spidey's eyepiece glued to the head.
  23. Latest batch is more or less done, and this time I've focused mostly on the Heroes for Hire supporting characters. I imagined it as a wave, that starts with a four-pack of the Sons of the Tiger: Back in the Marvel kung fu craze, they were imagined as a rainbow team of martial arts experts who squared off against some inter dimensional foes and blah blah blah. If their amulets look familiar, it's because they were later reunited on one man, Hector Ayala, the White Tiger. Apparently, these dudes just threw their powerful amulets that gave them super-powers into the bin, because Lotus Shinchuko over there Yoko-Onoed the band and they broke up over a love triangle. I don't know the exact circumstances, but I think if it were me I'd just hang on to that little super-powered amulet, irreconcilable differences notwithstanding. The rest of the lot is a proper wave in my mind, with a BAF in the form of Shao Lao the Undying, the dragon that Iron Fist bear-hugged to get his chi powers. The army-builder is an Incinerator, Marvel's low-rent version of a dalek. He comes packed with Professor Alphonse Gamble, Marvel's Dr. Who "tribute." The alt character is one Captain Hero, a Billy Batson-alike powered adult version of a sick young boy, who ended up "killing" "Iron Fist" in the last issue of PM/IF. Of course, he turned out to be the Super Skrull, and Iron Fist was just a sentient plant doppelgänger. Because Marvel. The two-packs are El Aguila, who needs no introduction, along with the Thunderbolt, who probably does. Next up is the K'un-Lun two pack of Yu-Ti, the "August Personage in Jade," with Lei Kung the Thunderer. I can't hear Yu-Ti's name without thinking about with his name inserted...Anyway, enjoy!
