  1. Thanks for the link MiniFiend, that Wicket looks wicked, but the red guard I wish had legs instead of the dress thing... so I guess that wave 8 Are-Jay got, with Teebo etc, is wave 9 or something?
  2. Haven't the only retailer exclusive sets been from AFX, or were there others? It's hard to remember since they generally end up being sold to/through BBTS and the other online stores too, plus some of them have ended up at my LCS months later (not sure if the leftovers get solicited through Diamond, or my comic shop just buys from AFX?)... Anyway, I'd suggest bugging AFX... Re: DST's "timing issues" they've addressed the movie question plenty of times in the past, about how the creation of a minimate set generally takes longer than the amount of time they're given (ie. they get movie character designs given to them too close to the release date to have them on shelves in time). It looks like they're really trying with the Wolvie flick though, so at least they're aware of it. As you say, timing releases to accompany a surge of interest is another problem though -- although with BSG it seemed like they had it timed perfectly, since the Caprica set/new waves would have come out this winter/spring as the series returned and came to its big finish. If they couldn't get the retailer interest now, of all times, it's understandable that they'd question putting these out.
  3. Again, you placing a pre-order with an online store shouldn't make any difference whatsoever to the expected sales... If you (and others) always buy up the BSG mates that come into your LCS, then that gives the store a market for them, so they almost certainly would have ordered the new sets. That means you *were* taken into account, but there weren't enough orders elsewhere (presumably from the stores that ordered the last waves and still have them on the shelf). Our individual pre-orders should make no difference. In the AA Q&A, Chuck doesn't even say "pre-orders", he says "pre-booked orders" and I'm still thinking that clearly implies the collective orders from retailers (not our pre-orders from those retailers).
  4. I could totally be wrong, but when DST talk about pre-orders not being there for any given solicit, I assume they're talking about the size of the orders put in by online and comic book stores -- not *our* individual set pre-orders from those retailers. Our individual pre-orders would have to be beyond these stores' expected *total* sales (ie. the amount they're ordering) in order to sell out their pre-orders and send them back to DST seeking more. So to say "I never preorder, but I always buy what comes out" means that you're already in these retailers' expected sales -- even if you did suddenly preorder, it wouldn't impact those sales. Based on past waves, it's the expected total sales that aren't big enough, not the preorders we make through BBTS, AFX, etc. I think. Anyway, retailer exclusive box sets would be awesome, and it worked for the cancelled Target mates... I think the blog response had just enough cautious possibility for me not to give up on eventually getting that wicked New Caprica Starbuck, if not all the announced mates...
  5. If there were such a statute, it would completely invalidate the entire internet! Wasn't the Avengers wave released by itself, or am I forgetting one?
  6. All of our complaining about how DST releases movie waves too late in the day has totally come back to bite us in the ass! So we'll get Deadpool etc in what, December? Buh.
  7. After 11 months, several ship date pushbacks, then the American Toys R Uses getting them, then the online stores getting them, then the east coast delay I forgot about, it seems weird to finally have these in hand -- but they are awesome... Couple of random thoughts: - I'm cool with all the slip-on masks, but they just do not work for red-and-blue Spidey heads (presumably because we've had so, so many regular sized that our brains just can't accept a slightly bigger one -- it looks HUGE) - I think Kraven looks perfect if you cut the "chest" out of his vest - Even the DST employee who wrote the character bio things didn't buy that this was really a "Back In Black" Spidey instead of a redo - War Machine: brilliant. In fact these all look way cooler in person than in the promo pics, which were already pretty cool. Except Dagger seems to have kinda big eyes, but just getting a Dagger was so unlikely that I won't even call that a complaint. Maybe she's just surprised to be here too, or she's really into anime or something.
  8. Wow, release that exact mate *right now* please DST... preferably in a Harry Osborn 2-pack. That's a great job TENIME...
  9. I've never read Will Eisner's original series, but the current DC one was a lot of fun when Darwyn Cooke was on it. He left after issue 12 I think (and since then it's gone downhill) but I'd highly recommend those first few. The book and the character don't take themselves too seriously, unlike the movie . Like I said, I'm glad this mate's smiling...
  10. Wow, this is one pessimistic thread... BSG still hasn't even been officially cancelled, and the forum's already declared Star Trek and both Spirit sets dead alongside it. Don't get me wrong, of course it could happen, but I think the fact that they haven't announced it yet is a good sign not an annoyance -- it says to me they're at least trying to keep the line alive in some form (since we know DST can't/don't comment when they're still working out the details). At least this new Spirit mate is smiling! I was worried he'd look all serious like the movie version... I imagine this would be one of their smaller runs, and this set could have more direct appeal to the customers of comic book stores than BSG did...
  11. I can't think of an X-Files character that would require that kind of odd design he's talking about (Tooms maybe?? But would that really be his new favourite minimate?)... Terminator makes more sense to me, since off the top of my head it could easily be the cop dude melting out of the checkered floor. Which would be a cool 'mate... (and I only think of that because of T. mentioning BBTS leaks -- plus the "truth is out there" that we have a Terminator line coming). X-Files would be awesome, but I just can't picture him giving away a new line like that...
  12. Ha, I like that your incomplete Jean seems surprised to be missing her hair -- and that you refused to let your chair-less Xavier stand! And well done -- just the thought of piecing together 87 minimates makes me feel tired...
  13. In theory I'm glad they finally released some new info, but yikes. Phoenix looks a bit, uh, drag queeny for lack of a better term...
  14. Marvel: Runaways! Funny, smart, amazing art. By the same guy that wrote Y The Last Man -- at least the first 3 big hardcovers are... after that Joss Whedon takes over and kinda wrecks it, but the original series is almost perfect. Nextwave. Funniest comic book ever, c-list heroes fighting supervillain terrorism. The first trade of New Avengers is a lot of fun, with some great Spider-man lines. After that I thought the series kinda went off the rails until the Skrulls showed up. DC: A lot of Batman classics already mentioned in the thread, I'd say Year One is my fave. Batman: Year 100 is also cool and weird. Weird: We3. Kind of like that Disney movie Homeward Bound, except the dogs and cats have been bionically enchanced into military weapons. Umbrella Academy. Royal Tenenbaums meets Justice League. The first chapter is titled "The Day The Eiffel Tower Went Beserk" The Maxx. A homeless "superhero" fighting a "supervillain" serial rapist, to protect his social worker who may or may not be a jungle queen in an alternate life. Really weird, but funny, smart, etc etc...
  15. If I could go back in time and meet my 11-12 year old self, I would tell him to invest in Google...
  16. If they start remaking Spider-man villains like Rhino and Doc Ock before they even put out first versions of Lizard, Electro, Scorpion and Vulture, I will cry... you don't want to make me cry, do you DST? Karamazov, there were plenty of "fifth members" in Excalibur over the years, but my fave for them to make would be Rahne/Wolfsbane, or maybe a Douglock or even a Moira MacTaggert to sit in Xavier's lap. I always figured our best shot at getting Captain Britain would be in a 2-pack with Psylocke, but it's hard to see Gambit as a let down!
  17. Wait, have you seen images MiniFiend? Or is the "he is cute" just part of the description this dude posted? I know some people really hate Ewoks (or at least they did before Jar Jar became an easier target ), but I would love a Wicket Mugg... Thanks for posting the info...
  18. yeah that's what I meant by the "do-over wave" I'm waiting for, I just blanked on the word revision... I knew it was planned for September or something, but they definitely haven't hit my LCS yet, and I usually see new Muggs there before they show up in the box stores... plus we didn't even get Stormtroopers in the shortened wave 1 they released in Canada, so I'm just tired of waiting. Not tired enough to turn to eBay, but tired 54 might be pushing it a bit I don't think I could fit 54 Muggs into my apartment, unless I glued them on the ceiling or something! I might pick up 2, to flank Vader. If they make some of those red guards the Emperor uses I'd grab a couple of those for sure...
  19. I thought it was pretty much in character, Johnny's a cheesy grin kinda guy Some of the faces have definitely turned me off picking up certain Muggs though, like the Doc Ock The flames/coloring of Torch really blew me away -- very simple, but very cool effect. I hope we get the Star Wars do-over waves soon... still waiting to get my mitts on a Storm Trooper.
  20. That's him, thanks a lot! Not sure if I like the new version enough to buy a whole DVD pack to get him, the face looks a bit weird in the promo pics, but I'll check it out in person and see. While I'm remembering Joe stuff, did anyone else get that mail away figure of "you" when you were a kid? It might've been only in the UK, but they sent you this figure who was wearing a big round metal helmet and a Joe file filled out with your personal info, and also a 45 record that I think had mission instructions on it. Anyway, after my parents paid who knows how much for this silly thing, they sent me a letter saying they were out of stock of "me" and here was a Snake Eyes to make up for it. Of all the figures -- every Joe collector had a Snake Eyes! I remember being really pissed (or the 8 year old equivalent). Last question I swear: anyone know which figure changed color with heat? Was that Zartan maybe?
  21. Anyone know if they've remade that desert soldier guy yet, for the new line? Can't remember his name so I can't look it up, but I think he was a Joe, in yellow-brown camo, war paint on his face, and a helmet with a cloth hanging on the back that was actual fabric... I haven't seen him in any of the waves that showed up at my LCS, but I easily could've missed him, or if he was in any con photos as an upcoming release I wouldn't have seen that... anyway, just wondered, since he was one of my faves back in the day.
  22. I just spent 5 minutes trying to narrow down Star Wars into one 5 figure boxset -- couldn't do it Still, fun game! Other than that, I'd say Ghostbusters really would be my most-wanted license, so good call on that... although I think Stay Puft would work better in mate form than Slimer (or even better: Stay Puft Maximate, if we're dreaming!)...
  23. Really? That's awesome... Is it another sequel movie, or a whole new series?
  24. hey minivenom, where'd you get the Human Torch? I didn't think that wave was out yet...
  25. Are you sure the regular Revoltech line is finishing? When? Thought they just had some robots come out, and I'd heard they were doing more TFs... hope it's temporary. With Fraulein vs. Figma, it always seems strange to me that nobody online seems to like both... I have one Fraulein, it's a Rei Ayanami (haven't seen Evangelion, but thought this would work better for figure drawing than one of those creepy wooden dolls), and holding it up against the Figma pics here I can't see that much difference. The joints actually seem much more hidden on my Rev., but that means it doesn't have ball joints on the knees and elbows like the Figma, so the Figma does seem to have a wider range of motion/poses for sure (the Rev. does compensate a little bit for those lacking ball joints with rotating cuts on the thighs/upper arms, but it is less effective). I do like the folding chair and alternate hair/face a lot -- Rei came with two extra sets of hands, a similar stand thingy, and her giant staff in two pieces. I guess they just seem like such similar lines that I find it odd whenever someone likes one they seem to hate the other... I'm not into that many anime series, but if either line releases some Eureka 7 or Bleach figures, I'd be all over them.
