  1. Oh hey the 2008 concept camaro bumblee what's the deal has it been released?
  2. I don't find that at all. Personally, I find hunting down hard-to-find things to be annoying and detract from collecting. I enjoy getting new figures, and pre-order right away so I won't have to worry about hunting them down. For me, the owning is the fun part, not the finding. I've been buying these things since series 1, and I consider my collection complete. I've never felt this "wall" that you're talking about. If anything, knowing that I have everything gives me satisfaction, not boredom. It means that there's nothing left to concern myself with. Also, if "the hunt" is so much fun, why do you bother even preordering? I pre-order because I don't want to miss out, hunting is fun but intentionally hunting something that I can have easily doesn't bring any more satisfaction than pre-ordering as I know I'd just be kidding myself. If you've been collecting from wave one you've never had to play catchup so maybe you're in the 'wall' state and don't know it is because it's never been different? I guess it's different strokes for different folks although 90% of the people I talk to are bummed they don't have stuff to chase anymore. I'd be interested to see how others fall on this, esp those that started late and have caught up. T. I have to agree with you there Timobo the most exciting part of collecting minimates for me was getting all the mates I missed having started at wave 8 there were quite a few. I hunted all over my town and when I found a store that had them I was in a frenzy, but the most excited I got through the whole catch up process was when I got a hold of black Spidey. Not only that but when I look at one of my minmates now I remember the story of how I a came in possesion of it and it's even more special because of that. I also agree with you on the point of different strokes for different folks it would seem that there are collectors out there that don't like chasing minimates. I can relate to them in a way because sometimes when I think there is a particular mate that I won't be able to get I actually get stressed out a little not fun right now it's blue suit prof. x.
  3. I would just like to say in general that this wave is superb. They've really out done themselves I particularly like the cyborg Superman.
  4. Just saw the movie and imho "best movie ever!" (done in simpsons' comic book guy voice) All joking aside it is a seriously awesome movie. There were certain parts that were questionable but as a whole it worked also how frickin cool is to see live action transformers. On another note Hotstufflouie you say you need reissue soundwave I have you still need pm me with possible/interesting trade offers. Oh yeah again the movie was phenomenal Just a warning I had bad experinences with the dvd version the leg would not lock extended he would fall over when I tried to stand him up I returned him and the one I got in exchange did the same thing. It imo would be wise to try and find a Takara version.
  5. short term investment scalping hey po tate oh, po tot oh either way I don't care what you call it, it isn't foolish oppurtunistic sure, underhanded even, not foolish. Call it what you want all I said was there was money to be made. Reideen you keep hinting as though I'm a scalper and I've said that I don't buy minimates as a investment or to "scalp" them so could you quit it? Aren't the gold and silver Spidey's expensive due in part to the fact that they are plated with their corresponding precious metal namesakes (I'm in truth not sure about this). If trends continue the actual black Spidey's prices will come down on there own. A more useful outlet for all of the black Spidey energy ie rerelease, release similar but different and so forth, would be to try and organize the mmmv members who don't have black Spidey. Organize them in such a way that when black Spidey comes up on ebay they don't bid against eachother driving the prices up. There would have to be a certain level of trust members would have to be honest and not claim to not have one and actually just want another. Also it should be based on member senority. It's crazy and unlikely but it's an idea. Also to the staff if this sort of thing is shunned upon just delete this reply.
  6. I know exactly what your saying I'm like that with comics I pick out the nicest ones and if after I get them home I notice some Imperfection I have to go get a new one. that my friend is sick
  7. I don't recall saying anything about modern toys being a good long term investment. If you Buy at the right time and sell at the right it is possible to double your money or even better. I would also like to state that in the example of the Soundwave I actually said myself that the prices have fallen since the example I used so Reideen1313 pointing out cheaper ones is a moot point and the black Spidey was a minimate it sold just before the movie came out. My original point was that although unlikely there was money to be made in secondary market for example If you were to watch ebay and see something selling for twice three times your cost and were able to pick some up on clearance UNlikely yes of course foolish I for one don't think so. Now to get back to the point if I may Reideen1313 you yourself said that a reissue Black Spidey is not a good idea. I for one would feel betrayed and dissillusioned I don't think I would, but I would consider quiting collecting ( I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one review the thread). I like to believe that people still keep there word ( dst promise not to rerelease variants). I don't personally buy minimates as an investment but do like to think that I have something that is hard to find I don't however take any joy when a true fan ie infallible and the others are without certain minimates.
  8. So then Pickle what your saying is that it may not be entirely foolish?
  9. The falling are examples of items I've seen on ebay and their prices: Black Spidey original price $10 on ebay it sold for $80 Flash/Martian Manhunter Javelin original price $15 selling on ebay $150 hasn't ended yet Soudwave reissue orginal price $40 I saw it sell for $80 the price has gone down since then Transformers Classic deluxe Starscream original price $13 sold on ebay for $53 Uh yeah that doesn't sound to foolish to me. The problem with the comics in the 90's was they relied to heavily on the gimmicks foil covers and what not, and not on quality the art and the stories were garbage. I know I quit reading comics in the 90's because they were so terrible I have since started again because they are genuinely good.
  10. So you missed out on the black Spidey are you going to mss out on any of the upcoming variants? No of course because if you do you'll have to pay a premium for them in the secondary market and while you're picking up the variant you might as well get the rest of the wave. By releasing variants dst instills a sense of urgency to the collecting of the mates this is good for dst because if you put off buying them long enough you may just decide not to. Not only that but I see it as a loyalty reward I supported marvel minimates in the begining and as a reward the minimates that I purchased have become more valuable. Having said that I sometimes think that dst relies to heavily on variants and other gimmicks by which I mean the quality of marvel minimates is not quite on par with the dcd mates ( I didn't want to have to say that) Don't get me wrong I like variants because it makes it exciting I just wish they could have variants and higher quality mates. THE FOLLOWING IS BY NO MEANS A DISS PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT AS SUCH Oh and if I could speak directly to Infallible your disregard for the long term value of your collectibles is commendible but I woud hazard to guess rare. I don't think there are enough people like you out there to make producing minimates or any other collesctible for that matter profitible . Oh and about buying toys as an investment you make it sound like something foolish I think your attitude would change if you had a mint g1 Optimus Prime I just saw one sell for $230 cdn on ebay what did it cost when it was released $20 my math isn't that good but even I can tell that would have been a good investment.
  11. Apparently I am one of the minority who like Hip Hop but I'll listen to just about anything I drive around most of the day for work (in a truck with no cd player) and we don't have a good Hip Hop radio station in my town so I mostly listen to the rock station sometimes classic rock and sometimes country. When I'm In my car I listen to The Game or T.I. Oh and The White Stripes they kick ass.
  12. I'm cool with that pm me let me know which ones you want and what you have for trade. I have a want have list in the Flea market I need the New Avengers boxset and The Astonishing X men boxset but I'll consider any reasonable trade. I prefer sealed. Also you could forego all that and just reimburse me but I would prefer trades.
  13. Can anybody give info on how to get my grubby mitts on that ehobby exclusive clear Mirage? I realize it's not out yet but I would like to at least preorder it.
  14. Just got the Spider Man boxset 22.99 (I think I may have gotten a discount but I'm not sure) and wave 4 Dcd (really cool) Haven't opened them so I appreciate the pics they look pretty cool except for Sandman and his translucent parts. The legs I could deal with because it sort of looks like he's just begining to turn to sand but the sand blasts look pretty hokey. Powerhouse Venom and melee attack Spider Man make up for Sandy, also Hydro Man isn't to shabby either.
  15. He and some of the cassettes (and their reissues) from Japan have those. They are from Headmasters, and are stickers of Fort Max or Scorponok (depending on whether the cassette is a Decepticon or Autobot.) The stickers are meant to represent the blueprints for the city-bots that the cassettes have stolen and brought back to the cassette players. So the story behind them is interesting, even if it may not be as visually appealing as the cassette ribbon. Thanks that clears things well that and the pics from Leoric.
  16. If anybody has Soundwave reissue could you tell me what Ravage has on his side? I saw a picture on Flickr and Ravage had a picture of a pink robot where his tape window should be.
  17. I think a really good choice for a character is Stan Lee and maybe make a 2 pack with Jack Kirby I don't think either are licensed also they could be made from mostly used parts. I think it would be a great homage to the inovators of a medium that we all love. Having said that I don't think the whole mmmv exclusive minimate is a financially viable idea REALLY REALLY coool but not financially viable.
  18. I picked up a reissue Soundwave a couple of weeks ago and thought it was quite a big deal because of it's rarety but just today I was at my local tru and there were 2 more so my question is did Hasbro release a bunch more and if so are they planning on releasing even more?
  19. Hi! Nice to have another Canadian around. The minis do kind of take you unaware you pick one up to get a closer look and bam you're hooked.
  20. I didn't mean to offend anybody but I just don't think everything should be a dime a dozen and there should be things that are hard to get it makes you want them more and makes finally getting them all the sweeter. Oh and about the Black movie Spider Man bothering me I said it only kind of bothered me but it's different enough that it's not too much. The point I was trying to make is that for me even that costume is getting to close to the wave 2 black costume.
  21. ? I missed the point. Black Spider Man from wave 2 and that's it if you don't have one or couldn't get one I'm sorry but such is life. Just because the currrent story line involves the black costume doesn't me anything. Iron Man 19 has the stealth suit in it are you guys going to suggest re-releasing it. I don't even like the fact that they released the movie version of the black costume but it's different enough that it doesn't bother me too much. To release a black suited Spider Man even with blue high lights would defeat the purpose of having a variant and quite honestly take some of the fun away from collecting them ( at least for me I'm sure there are others who agree). What's next releasing a slightly different clear sue storm because she appears in the movie invisible? Come on.
  22. open them my my lcs has tons of them also with the new 2" Trek mates coming out the 3s aren't quite as sought after.
