Dan
To make it easier to read, could it be possible to make everyone's posts in the flea market want/have and want to buy/sell threads colour coded. Like all wants in blue and haves in red. Then you can scroll the lists easier. Also could members add a US or UK or CN etc to the top of their post so you can tell where people are from? Would this be a good idea or possible at all? Thanks Edited September 1, 2008 by Dan
The_Donster
Great suggestions Dan. I wouldn't mind helping folks out, but like you, I find it hard to weed through members lists at times.
jcastick
What about having people use the Columns method? Have their Wants in the left Column and their Haves in the right Column. Just a thought cause it is how I have mine set up and mine seems easy to go through. Oh, and everyone should use the location information that goes under the avatar.....that would make things easier. Rad
I'd love to see more people use the columns. Some peoples lists are so huge I get bored reading and end up skipping to the next guy.
Dan
How do you set up columns? I'd happily do that if I knew how to.
jcastick
I will put - so the code will show up: [-column1-] Blah Blah Blah [-/column1-] [-column2-] Yadda Yadda Yadda [-/column2-] So it would look like this: Blah Blah Blah Yadda Yadda Yadda Just take the dashes out and you should be good. buttheadsmate
I have a MIB Blah Blah which I would happily trade for a Yadda (Dabba Doo version)...anybody help? Just take the dashes out and you should be good. I believe this to be good advice to both Wally West & Barry Allen. The_Donster
I'd love to see more people use the columns. Some peoples lists are so huge I get bored reading and end up skipping to the next guy. Not to mention weeding through the chatter that would be best served via pm or in it's own thread. Might be nice to see the thread given the once over to make it easier to get through the lists Who knows the last time folks actually updated their list Edited September 3, 2008 by The_Donster
Dan
Thanks to jcastick I have now updated mine in columns. It's really simple when you know how. Everyone should do it. It makes life so much easier.

Might be nice to see the thread given the once over to make it easier to get through the lists Who knows the last time folks actually updated their list Thats the thing Don. Everyone is supposed to be putting an 'Updated XX/XX/XX' thingy in their post. If they aren't updating the post regularly (or if they're updating it just to bump their stuff to be the most recent post in the thread - and believe me, I check) I delete the posts from time to time. Unfortunately I've gotten a promotion at work which has required me to change my hours and I haven't been able to get to some of those type of 'maintenance' type activities as much as I'd like. More work, more responsibility, more pay = less time to do some of the 'other' stuff, but I get around to it eventually. You should see the sorry state my minimates display is in. (Hell, I haven't even opened anything since the final DC wave was released.... they're all sitting in the boxes they came in, waiting for me to have time for 'em.) I'll add it to my list of things to do this weekend when I'm off.
The_Donster
I can definitely feel your pain Reideen Don't think I'm coming down on the staff, more on the members that haven't updated their lists or can't help but ask a question in a trade list
Reideen1313
Nah - no offense taken. I'm fully aware I've been slacking. I've gone thru and deleted anything last updated prior to June 08 and anything that didn't have the required 'updated xx/xx/xx' info included. Customizer
Just out of curiosity...was the " Member Thread" in the flea section method tried before? I only ask as ...it seems like it would be far more efficient and easier to navigate. 1 thread per member only. Updates with haves / wants. Making more than 1 thread will get your original and new thread deleted..? Just curious..

Are you referring to members having their own trading threads in the flea market rather than a post in the want/have thread?

I believe that is how we had it, and instead of people just editing their old thread accordingly...some would just make another and the forum got clogged with unused threads. Rad
Plus, instead of having 4 pages of posts to wade through you'd probably end up with 4 pages of threads to wade through. I think we've pretty much got it right on here.
Customizer
Obviously im WAY late with regard to a reply but having read your answer i do see the point of having a Want Have dedicated thread. On the other hand simply checking the first 2 pages of the flea market for member threads that have been updated or bumped (bumped once every 2-3 days as a hypothetical rule) would make finding new items posted by members for more convenient. Almost every other major board does this and it works very well . It would seem both systems work but the latter seems more convenient in that you dont have to wade through the Want Have post that havent been updated to find those that have. TBT!
Can I chip in? (well I'm going to anyways ) The reason we have things set up as they are is when everyone had their own thread then things were really messy and some folks abuse the system by continually bumping their threads. It's a nightmare to adminster/police that way and keep it fair, in the past it's been such a cluster fuck that it was actually considered that we pull the flea market completely. The same happened to an extent with the haves want thread where 3-4 specific members were bumping with almost clockwork regularity, which is not fair on the other members. We tried to let this slide for a while but the number of complaints we recieved meant we had to do something and after some discussion this was decided to be the most practical solution. If someone has a better idea that has not been considered then We are more than happy to listen though. T.
TM2 Dinobot
Here's my issue. Someone deleted their post. Because I was in a prime spot at the top of page 4, and now I'm several from the bottom of page 3. I thought we weren't supposed to do that, and what you get is what you get? Did someone delete their post so they could get a "better" spot? 0-o

You'd be surprised what info on posts when they were created and deleted etc that staff can access! You don't believe we didn't anticipate some sort of shinanigans and wouldn't have noted the post order so far? T.
groundhog7s
I think I deleted my original post in the thread because my wants were fulfilled and I no longer needed anything. I wasn't trying to break a rule, just no longer wanted or haved. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seemed like a legitamte reason to delete my post.
