SPOILERS Quantum of Solace

Recommended Posts

Tonight at midnight, Quantum of Solace hits theaters across the country and I'm psyched! So as topic starter (and since I haven't seen it yet) I'm going to set a day that spoilers can be discussed here about Quantum. Feel free to talk about Casino Royale or any other Bond film freely. That date, by the way, is this coming Monday. I'll change the title and then you'll know to start spoiling away.

Anyone else excited?

I might be, but I haven't even seen Casino Royale. Daniel Craig just doesn't do it for me. Not like Brosnan did. Nowhere close to Conery.

Give Craig a chance TM2, he might surprise you. When I went to see Casino Royale, I was like "this guy looks old and not-at-all like James Bond." I left the theater feeling stupid. Craig not only completely encompasses the role, he brings in new type of characterization. He helps us understand James Bond better than any movie or actor has done before. I really enjoy the new direction the movies were taken in.

That's what I hear and I understand that and fully expect to enjoy it. I just got kinda irked when I was reading about it when it came out, because I was left thinking "this is wrong. This is all wrong. His first mission? Yet we have Judy as M? They're screwing up the continuity.

By the time I found out they'd gone through a relaunch of the series, it was too late. The bittered and betrayed feelings were there to stay.

I just got back from seeing QoS...

Keeping it spoiler free as per Trek42's request I'm going to say I was rather underwhelmed by it.

There are bunch of things I want to discuss but will wait til a few more have seen it, what I will say however is that it's like they made a check list of bond action sequences to put in and then strung the film around those.

IMO Daniel Craig is a capable Bond, just a very different one that takes some getting used to.

My last comment on this is that I hate it when they cut actions scenes in movies so fast that you have no idea what's going on...

The film gets a c+ from me...fun to watch but must try harder.

T.

p.s. The best thing about being in the Cinema today was seeing the StarTrek trailer, its gone from not even on my radar to something I want to see now!

I can't wait to see QoS. Casino Royale is now one of my favorite movies. CR and Daneil Craig have done with Christian Bale and Batman Begins has done with Batman. It takes a series that has become a joke of it's own self and made it back into a must see blockbuster.

We are getting a bunch of buddies together the check out Quantum this weekend. Can't wait! neo

Saw it today. I agree with Timbo, as I, too, was underwhelmed. I'm not gona discuss spoilers here, bet let me just say, having never seen Casino Royale and just getting dumped into this one, I was VERY lost. It didn't feel like James Bond at all too me. More like Borne. Jason Borne.

Also, as I tried to tell Mr. Bay, and now apparently will have to tell Mr. Forster, I like to actually SEE the movie I'm watching.

No Watchmen trailer. No Trek trailer. Over all, I'm glad I didn't pay to see this thing. :P

Yeah TM2, you definitely have to see Casino Royale for the set up, but I disagree that it's very unBondlike. The first few Bond films were continuations of previous films, just seperate stories. Not to mention I'm sure these might be a little truer to the Bond character in the books than we've seen in the past. On the brightside, Craig made it easy for my wife to sit through Casino Royale and a Bond movie for that matter. I can also understand the comparisons to the Bourne movie, I'm sure it's the same trainer for both. Let's not forget though, they were going for an American Bond series when they started those movies. So it's no coincidence that there would be similiarities to each other. Once Monday hits I'll be avoiding the thread until I see the movie though. The wife and I are down with the flu and I plan to rest up this weekend.

Spoil away! Have fun.

So first, the big one. What did you think of the Goldfinger reference with Agent Fields (who I believe was hotter than Camille by the way)? By far, the best death of the movie.

And did anybody pay attention in the credits and find out her first name? For those who didn't it's Strawberry.

Yes. Strawberry Fields. That about makes up for Camille's boring name doesn't it?

I have to say, Greene had one of the best Bond villain plans of them all. Control water, you control everything.

Haven't seen it yet. Of course, i just ignored all the spoiler posts...;)

What i do know is that Craig is all right. I loved Connery, and Moore was just a little better in my opinion, but i don't feel Craig as Bond works. Excellent actor, plays the role well, but i just don't see it. What i mean is that it's believable that he's Bond when he plays him, but just not Bond-enough.

Of course, i've seen almost every other movie, so i'll see it regardless of the actor. :)

Hated it. Hated it hated it hated it. Need I repeat myself? Craig is NOT Bond. He's not even that good of an actor. There's no Q gadgets. It felt more like Borne than Bond (I might have said that before).

Fields though... Man I loved her. Was I the only one who was SURE she didn't have anything on under that coat? XD

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Surely I don't need to repeat myself? Craig IS Bond. He's a brilliant actor. Thank god there's no Q gadgets now. This was far superior to the Bourne films, for a start you could follow the action. And what action!!! :D

Fields though... Man I loved her. Was I the only one who was SURE she didn't have anything on under that coat? XD

Yeah Fields was gorgeous, I'm sad to say that I thought exactly the same as you. Hated the way she went out though.

For sure, for sure. She actually could have made me go see a 3rd movie if she'd been his partner. I liked their dynamic. I liked her. Now normally I'm all for killing off lovable characters, but in this case I felt she was needed, and it saddens me to see her go. Especially how she went. That's just awful. [speculation] If we ever got a Minimate of her, do you think she'd have anyting on under her coat? [/speculation]

The action was to up close and personal. Not Bayformers style, but still too close for my taste.

  • 1 month later...

I loved it too Rad and couldn't agree more. Something my wife liked, opposed to some of the earlier Bond movies she's watched with me, was that the more the movie went on the more worse for wear he looked. She said it was more realistic, as opposed to the big explosion, taking off the spy gear, turning it into a tuxedo and slicking back their hair approach. Connery will always be my favorite bond, but Craig has done a great job resurrecting the franchise. I like Moore initially, but the tongue and cheek got to be a bit much, not to mention being gadget and stunt crazy. The more I watch On her Majesty, the more I would have liked to see that actor return. I also liked Dalton and Brosnan, who brought their own flavor, but were slaves to the Bond formula. Die Another Day started out nice and then fell into the old Bond formula.
