  1. Because they will have likely heard of that cartoon? Again, the 80s TMNT cartoon was HUGELY popular, far more than any comic version of TMNT. That and the Playmates toyline, connect to a huge generation of people who grew up in the 80s-90s. Just because someone goes into a comic shop doesn't mean they know everything about comics. Particularly these days, with comics so much a part of general pop culture, the guys who go into to buy Deadpool comics (but don't read anything else) or the guys who come in to buy some comics because they've seen the latest comic movie, are very apt to be attracted to seeing the "classic" Ninja Turtles in Minimates. There's also a huge contingent of casual TMNT fans who don't like any version but that, because that's the only version they know. These are the people who won't buy Nick stuff or IDW stuff, because it looks similar, but it's not quite the Turtles they want. The 80s versions are the versions they want. How many people have you seen wearing a Fred Wolf style TMNT shirt on the street. They're VERY common. Now how many of those people do you think know IDW is even a thing? Or that Mirage was ever a thing? The reality is, most of those people have an attachment to 80s TMNT merch because they fit into the aforementioned category. Those people will buy these figures (or at least are more likely) and are the kind of people who do pop into comic shops, but may not necessarily know a ton about comics or comic history.
  2. Sorry but if you have the choice between the 80s TMNT designs which were the most popular iteration of the TMNT or the IDW designs which are least known TMNT designs, you go with the 80s designs every time. I'd buy some of the IDW stuff mind you, but it's appeal is a million times more limited than the Fred Wolf stuff. I'd say a big section of people who go into comic shops don't know there's even a current TMNT comic. There's probably still a portion who still have no idea TMNT was EVER a comic. I've met tons of TMNT fans over the years... The number who even knew it was ever a comic is staggering. Just because the IDW stuff is "current" doesn't mean it's the right play for DST or anyone. And just for icing on the cake... The highest selling TMNT comics of all time were... Not IDW, not Mirage, but the ARCHIE TMNT comics which feature the exact same Fred Wolf designs. This is one of those instances where being isolated to just the hardcore people on this forum and others, clouds sound business sense. Even if DST had rights to IDW, by no means should they ever choose those designs over the Fred Wolf stuff. Mind you, if we can have both, hell yea. Or pepper a few in during later waves, but if it's one or the other it'd be like choosing between making figures of Star Wars or StarCom. No one's choosing StarCom if they're looking to make money.
  3. While I agree with a lot of that sentiment, it's also difficult to find the right intel through the noise. Tons of great ideas here, but lots of bad ones too. (Not necessarily this thread, just in general)
  4. Happy Birthday all you guys! Special shout out to Luke for all he does and being just a cool dude.
  5. Yeah if this gets me some translucent Tron mates, I'd be pumped.
  6. I've never heard of that spot on Splinter's fur being referred to as a mustache before. Interesting take on that. I don't believe it was ever supposed to be a stache, just a line to show the difference in the jaw/mouth area of fur. And it's actually on the Minimate figure, it's just hard to see. I think they all look fantastic. Especially Krang. I do wish the Turtles had their turtle shaped heads, but I know that's not allowed. Edit: But the absence of teeth could throw the sculpt off to some people. I like him,
  7. I'm glad someone said that was Tinkerer, I thought it was Tony Stark dressing up like classic Aunt May.
  8. No real interest from me for Kingdom Hearts. Maybe if Donald's hat is removable I could find a use for him. Other than a few of the Disney characters, it doesn't inspire me much. I know it used to be a pretty popular franchise so hopefully it helps DST and maybe makes Disney think about doing more Minimates. Other than that, the 80s TMNT is a homerun and everything else is just fine. It's a great time to be a Vinimate fan though.
  9. I agree with Ninturtle, another wave would be great especially if we could get Slash, Rat King, Leatherhead and Krang in his walker. Either way though, these two waves are pretty sweet. They look really great. I think the Space Turtles definitely bogged down the line a bit. I think the bigger issue with that was the Space Turtles were spaced (no pun intended) over two waves with more regular turtle variants. If they'd just been one wave, I think it would have helped overall. But no use in crying over spilled milk. It was a good run. Now give me classic TMNT!
  10. Hopefully DST has some good stuff up their sleeve for Minimates tomorrow. if no DC mates are in fact on the slate, hopefully they can give us some surprises. Rocketeer? Gremlins? Ash vs. Evil Dead? Here's hoping for some knockouts!
  11. They just released the Rock Soldiers, classic Baxter, Mutating Rocksteady & Bebop, Raph in human disguise, Mike in Human disguise, classic Mousers and Samurai Leo all under the Mega Construx branding.
  12. I want the Robby the Robot Vinimate.
  13. I doubt Mega Bloks has anything to do with it. They've been doing a ton of 80s TMNT stuff. If they were going to kibosh Turtles, they'd kibosh them all. I'm guessing TRU pulled out and don't want Nick Minimates, and DST figured there is still life in TMNT Minimates, but not later seasons of Nick stuff. So if they have to go comic shop exclusive then it's better to do the heavily recognizable 80s versions as opposed to the new stuff.
  14. I really hope this means DC minimates.
  15. Back then and in 2K3, Stan basically just gave up Usagi for free because he was friends with Peter Laird and thought it was cool if his stuff appeared in another medium (both toons and toys) and although Usagi is supposed to show up in the new Nick show, I believe that deal is likely structured much differently. IE: Stan's been asked for the character's use and is probably getting paid and licensed separately. But that's just a guess.
  16. Yeah this is a great announcement served with a side of punch in the gut. Nick TMNT is one of the best lines you guys got. And TRU no longer on board? That seems... Odd. But at least we'll get a few cool waves of retro TMNT.
  17. Mega Man could be awesome, but only if they made the villains from Mega Man 1 & 2 and didn't jump right into the much later Mega Man games. Almost every line for Mega Man just makes dopey Mega man variants from the later games and doesn't make any of the cool villains like Cut Man, Guts Man, Bubble Man, Air Man, Quick Man, Wood Man, Heat Man, etc...
  18. I think the line is safe for now, but Baxter isn't a good indicator one way or the other. That's just a repaint of the previous Baxter release back when it was Mega Bloks.
  19. Thanks, much appreciated. This one was definitely a bit of "proof of concept" to see if I could do a quick little Trancers short story in Minimate form. Hopefully they can be more elaborate and such as time goes on. I have a few other, non-Trancer ones in the works too.
  20. Hopefully this is the right place for this. It said "pic fics" in this section, so I assume so. Needless to say, I’ve been really into Minimates and rekindling my love for Full Moon’s old Trancers movies. So a few customs later and I’ve started making Trancers Minimate comics. Let me know if you like, there could be more “down the line”.
  21. Say what now? Why would he have bitched about the cost of web fluid in the original trilogy, when he shot the webs from his arms? He didn't have web fluid. And while they may have tried to play it off that he "made" that costume in the movies, but that's not something someone can just make from "junk" in his room. And he had multiple costumes, which get ripped up and replaced throughout the movies. Again, even the best cosplayer in the world can't make a suit like that, so I have a hard time believing Peter can. Not that I care, it's a movie, whatever we can look past it, but logically, it makes much more sense for him to get a costume like that from someone like Tony. In Batman, we can accept that he gets a top of the line costume because he's a billionaire. But there's no way Toby's Peter could have made his costumes.
  22. I have less of a problem with the money/tech stuff in this new movie universe, because the "struggle" has NEVER been a factor in the movies before. Peter always ends up with super costumes, awesome gadgets, whatever, with ease anyway in the movies, so having a mysterious benefactor works better IMO. Likewise, this could create stories where we see the "struggle" because maybe he wrecks some stuff Tony gives him and he gets cut off for a bit or whatnot. As to Aunt May, I'll just leave this here...
