  1. I just saw the names of the Neomorphs. Those made me laugh. Teenage and Toddler. ROFL. I just imagine one like crying a bunch, throwing temper tantrums and the other whining about how he can't stay out late.
  2. I've managed to snag this entire line. It's a lot of fun. Very colorful and surprisingly well made figures. I put up a review of the screen test Batman figure here: Chase Batman Figure Review
  3. Robby the Robot is amazeballs.
  4. I liked it, but it felt like a Chris Pine movie to me. After all the hype I heard about how this was gonna be all about a strong female character, she didn't feel like the star to me. Gal was fine by all means but didn't get to show much range, I mean the first act of the movie she's a kid who barely talks and the second (and longest act) of the movie she's Chris Pine's funny sidekick who occasionally talks or says something goofy and the third act, she's just a bunch of CG. And Pine even gets the more heroic climax in the 3rd act. It was a good flick though, bout 20 mins too long and really had no inspiring villains but still the best DC movie in a long time, and better than a couple of the lower tier Marvel movies like Iron Man 2. I'd watch another just to see how they manage to do it without Steve Trevor to carry things. I also thought some of the CG was particularly bad. Like a lot of times in the Marvel flicks you can tell everything is CG but it's not so disorienting, but here, there were several parts where it just looked like Gal running around on a blue screen with CG stuff everywhere. That scene where she runs through the German base was particularly offensive. I was a bit surprised that such a big budget movie would have that sort of shoddy CG work.
  5. Don't see how it couldn't be Lego and Imaginext. It was mentioned that it was two larger licensees and that's the only two big names that work with DC that are even remotely similar. Yeah, there's lots of other crappy DC mini figures of all types, but it's gotta be Lego and Mattel that are the issues here and I'm guessing the big one is Lego. I doubt Lego put their foot down or anything, just guessing that someone at WB doesn't want to poke the bear. Vini-mates still sort of look like Lego guys, so that's why no articulation there I'd guess. Plus Lego does stuff that's similar with their big Lego figs and such.
  6. I believe what Chuck meant was that DC was particular in the sense that they didn't want good products with their license. I kid, but it is a shame that DC is so worried about pissing off Lego and Imaginext that they won't do Minimates, but I guess it makes sense. Bummer to hear though. Any chance that Keaton Mez-Itz Batmobile will scale with minimates? Edit: Nevermind saw some better pics of it. No dice.
  7. Meh, the other ones had their moments, but only the first one was truly great. I actually liked On Stranger Tides a fair amount, the second two were needlessly padded out but at least there was a "trilogy" story going on and this one was just pointless and directionless and dull. The soul is gone. Even the villains were drab and uninspired. It's just another Transformers movie. Lots of CGI and explosions but nothing worth caring about or a story worth telling. About 3/4s of the way in I thought about how all this time I could have been doing something better... Like laundry. I do like some of the offbrand Imaginext ships they have out for this. They'd go good with the Mates, but I still have my Mezco ships so I dunno if I need them.
  8. Man that movie was boring. Gotta be the worst Pirates yet and that's saying something. Kinda killed my interest in these again. I think I need to rewatch POTC, the only legitimately good one to get excited about these Mates again.
  9. I'm amused by the NECA backstory for the figure. Gotta give them credit for fleshing that out, including the "microwaves" that mutated the alien.
  10. Anybody pick up any of the Playmobil Ghostbusters stuff and can compare it to Minimates?
  11. Hey Zach, is SDCC Robby's gun removable? Or is it molded into his hand? It looks like a separate piece.
  12. Funny you mention this. I just went and saw Logan last night. Was maybe 15 in the theater? 3 had phones out. THE ENTIRE MOVIE! It didn't distract me too much, but I am baffled that someone comes to the movies paying $15-20 and then plays on Facebook the whole time. Incredibly... 3 different people. Not of the same group. I thought the movie was good, different than the usual stuff, nicely done. I dunno if I'd rave to everyone about it, but it was good. Certainly better than the last half dozen DC movies.
  13. I generally like the Corman version of F4. It's definitely the most faithful. As for Kong, I LOVED it. Best movie I've seen in the theater in ages. I loved that Kong was like the RKO Kong and more like a man-ape than the generic oversized gorilla of Peter Jackson's snoozefest. Plus the ending of this movie was great. And while John C Reilly stole the show, I thought Jackson was great and Loki was decent. It was a large cast, but I generally felt for most of the guys, even if I didn't learn their names or they didn't have much of an arc. There were definitely guys you were rooting to survive.
  14. Eggs were comic shop exclusive in addition to the alternate colors and such.
  15. If we can get Rat King and Leatherhead, I'd have almost the entire core Mirage crew. But I guess if we got Leatherhead at this point he'd be cajun style. Bummer. Though I like both.
  16. I am less concerned about the "younger" thing, as they said something similar when they first launched the Nick show and it ended up hitting the same notes as I am the show synopsis that includes the line: "Tapping into mystic, ninja powers they never knew existed" It gives me bad nightmares of Venus. But hopefully this is all worrying over nothing.
  17. It actually depends on how you count them which seems to vary as well. But I was just listing my personal philosophy. Everyone is a bit different on that. And the Loyal Subjects haven't gotten further. If you count Wave 1 which was all Mirage, then yes, but by that standard we'd have to count DST's Nick figures. I'm talking purely 80s cartoon style, and LS has only done the TMNT, Splinter, Shredder, Foot, Bebop & Rocksteady, Slash and Leatherhead. But if DST gets their sets out, they'll have more characters with April, Krang, Casey, Baxter, the TMNT, Splinter, Shredder, Rocksteady, Bebop and the Foot.
  18. That is to say you can't even get full 360 rotation on their arms, so even the articulation they do have is pretty limited and hindered by the designs. My original point and excitement about this was that several companies have tried to make a retro classic TMNT line and nobody has gotten very far for various reasons. So for DST to manage to release not only the TMNT themselves, but Shredder, Krang, Foot as well as Casey, Splinter, Baxter and April is a bit of a big deal because no one else has gotten that far. Except for Mega Blocks/Construx who have actually gotten that far, even a little further. Though many of the characters in that line can only be obtained by buying $30+ sets, and in the case of Splinter, a $250 set! Construx also haven't released a "classic" Casey yet either, although they did release a Mirage one but only in the B&W scheme. I love the Mega Blocks stuff, though, it's amazing. But it's a bit tiny for my liking, which is probably why it slipped my mind first mentioning this. But they definitely were the first to make it this far, DST still should be applauded for hitting all the main characters in the first two waves. Now for Wave 3 & 4 I hope we get Rat King, Ace Duck, Triceraton, Mutagen Man, Rock Soldiers, Vernon, Burne, Irma and the Punk Frogs! Oh the possibilities...
  19. That's why I said your mileage may vary on that. I don't think theres like an official rule or anything lol. I mean when Hasbro coined the term, they set the standard really high with the 12" Joes and few figures produced today outside of 1/6 scale regularly hit that many POA. Personally, I see an action figure as at least having the big 5. Neck, arms and legs as articulation points. Lego fits that standard (they actually have 6 points) and to me that's sort of the bare minimum to be an "action" figure. I personally never considered the LJN figures to be "action" figures, although they were rubbery enough that you could sort of "bend" some of the limbs and such so it helped some I suppose but they were always disappoint hunks of rubber in my mind. That's why when Jakks first released articulated WWF figures it was a big deal IMO, because they were the first real "action" figures. I have a bunch of the KR TMNT figures and while I do think they're cool even the POA they have aren't very good. You can raise their arms a bit and their heads turn. But they're mostly nerd hummels in my view.
  20. More characters than the Mystery Minis which seems to be one and done, but those aren't really action figures so I wasn't counting them. I'd say the same for the Kid Robot stuff too.I don't consider 3 POA vinyls action figures anymore than I consider Vinimates. But your mileage may vary. But NECA, Playmates, Figuarts, etc haven't made it that far. I guess Mega Construx has.
  21. Fun fact: If DST gets these two 80s TMNT sets to market it will be the most complete "classic" Turtles line since the original. No other line that's tried to go down this path has made more than just a few characters.
  22. I wouldn't buy new movie stuff (the designs are terrible and unimaginative, IMO) but as I've mentioned before I'd be all over MMPR stuff. I think Bandai USED to have everything tied up, but there has been some wiggle room lately with Mega Construx. I assume there may not be a lot of room for new stuff though. Maybe DST should look into it again though. Mates would be great for this license and wouldn't require a ton of new parts.
