  1. Really like your Commissioner Gordon and Hawkman, good work.
  2. More new stuff, this time a bit of Marvel, with Doctor Octopus. I used the tentacles off the Lego Doc Ock and green-stuffed the extra bit round the waist. The face is from a Mr. Fantastic Minimate, and the hair and glasses are pretty much entirely sculpted over a Nick Fury hairpiece. The boots and gloves remain unchanged from the Bishop Minimate I painted it over. More Fantastic 4 Stuff. On the left is my not-on-fire Johnny Storm, based on convention exclusive Mr. Fantastic. The face is totally hand-painted and the hair is fromthe convention exclusive Johnny Storm. In the middle is a better picture of the flaming on Human Torch from the boxed set, which I yellow-inked. A slight change is the hair, which is Cable's painted a slightly more orange shade of yellow. Finally on the right is fully on-fire Human Torch. I didn't quite like how the existing one didn't have the 4 logo or any of the uniform still visible, so made my own. Finally is Jade. I'm not exactly sure who she is, but I think she was in a relationship with Kyle Rayner at some point, and she was involved with Infinite Crisis. Kyle himself has had a change of facial expression to stop him looking too much like Hal Jordan.
  3. Yeah I've wondered about this. Personally I prefer the comic style, but when characters like Martian Manhunter and Flash aren't being re-made (soon, anyway) in comic style, they look a little inconsistent when next to the rest of the Justice League, which is a bit annoying. Weird thing is, the Jon Stewart who was a preview for the DCD Mates is in the animated style. I'd like to see some theme waves in the future, or even special boxed sets like they've done with Marvel, but I think for new they're just establishing the DCD Mates by keeping the appeal broad.
  4. Justice Lords Batman, made from a Justice Lords Superman with C3 Batman cowl. The whole thing, face included, is repainted. Next up is Hush. I used the coat from New X-men Phoenix and guns from Cable & Bishop. I can't remember which X-man the belt is off, but it's one of them. The face is painted over Bullseye's (you can still see the mouth and eyes). I decided to battle-damage my Superman even more, poor guy. The damage was loosely based off what happens to him in the Death of Superman comic, I think losing the cape is quite effective. That cheeky Luthor up to his nasty tricks again.
  5. Same as you_will_forget, I only joined recently. A UK only contest sounds fun.
  6. More new stuff, this Robin uses the Wave 2 Robin's torso, as well as the C3 Robin legs (repainted a different green). The belt is from some Cyclops I think, the gloves are from a C3 Batman and the hair is Iron Man's, with a re-sculpted front. The cape is from LOTR Frodo, with the leaf cut off the front. Next up my Supermen. The Clark Kent has appeared in this thread before. I customised my Justice Lords Superman, bringing him up to date with muscle detailing and the head and hair from Battle-damaged Superman. Battle-damaged Superman himself was given more damage and the head from Justice Lords Superman, although I'll probably change that when I find a better one. I also painted the yellow on the \S/ instead of black. Superman in a fight with his alternate dimension self.
  7. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Currently I'm working on another Batman variant, Plastic Man (with extendable arms, legs and torso), Doctor Octopus and Hush, as well as a Powerhouse Superman.
  8. First up, some variants of DCD's Batman from Wave 1. The Only non-standard part I used was for the 'Powerhouse' Batman on the left. The torso was the C3 Batman extra armour and cape piece, with a re-sculpted front and shoulders. The head is from Assault Punisher and the rest is just repainted C3 pieces. On a related note, if anyone has a Mini Batmobile Batman cape and/or Chemical Warehouse Batman cape and cowl up for trade please PM me. Next, not really a custom, but i added some detailing to my Target Daredevil's arms and legs, pretty much copied off Iron Man. And speaking of Iron Man, here he is in Ultimate version, based on Lex Luthor's torso and gloves. The leg armour is from the Batcave Heavy Assault Batman. The helmet is a standard Minimate head with a mask sculpted on the front.
  9. I haven't seen the show so couldn't comment on how accurate it is, but that aside it's a really well done custom.
  10. Nice work on them all, I especially like the Tim Drake Robin and I may just be borrowing your Lois idea too
  11. Wadalf: I used the convention exclusive Johnny Storm, which has transparent legs. Now for some more stuff. First is Spider-man, which I based off the Ultimate Spider-man Minimate. I'm not particularly proud of this one, I got a bit bored midway through and so the silver lines are too thick in parts. Also shown is my Symbiote Spidey, which I re-did slightly, making the blue shading on the white a little lighter. Sorry for the blurry picture, but here's Captain Atom and Nightwing. Atom is obviously based on silver surfer, with silver-painted Hal Jordan hair and gloves from Captain America. Nightwing uses the DCD Robin's hair, Captain America's head and Dark Knight Batman gloves. I'll probably eventually give him Daredevil's billy clubs painted silver. Thanks to these and DCD wave 2, my Justice League is shaping up quite nicely. Finally I re-did Alan Scott, as Alpheon mentioned the cloak didn't look quite right, and I had to agree. The new cloak is based on Booster Gold's collar, stuck on a heavily cut-down Magneto cloak, with the rest sculpted in with green stuff. I also re-did the face mask and decided to go for a different shade of green. The cloak is now purple instead of black. Also shown is my Justice Society, with very minor alterations in the form of black outlines to Doctor Fate and Power Girl.
  12. Robin (7/10): I really don't like this version of the Robin costume, but the Minimate itself is very accurate to the spirit of it. I still think that the cheesy grin is a little bit overdone. I think the hairpiece and batarang are good too, they should come in useful for customs. Penguin (8/10): Bit of a strange choice of colours, but other than that very well done. The face is full of character (love that monocle) and the top hat works well. The umbrella is pretty ace for an unconventional and fun accessory. Power Girl (9/10): I'm not sure about the bulky chestpiece, although I see why they did it. Other than that perfectly done, and I like the new hairpiece as well, need to pick up a few of those for customs. Doctor Fate (8/10): I was extremely happy to get hold of a Doctor Fate Minimate, but there are just a couple of nagging issues. I think the collar piece is a little off, I would have preferred a similar type of idea to (or even a repaint of) the Magneto cape. Another little annoyance is how on the DCD Minimates the pants aren't outlined like the rest of the design. The head and hairpiece are very cool though. Booster Gold (9/10): I really like this Minimate, the expression on the face really suits the character and the Skeets beltpiece works really well. It's also easy to make the modern Booster Gold costume just by removing the collar. A couple of minor issues are that I think the eyes are too high, some areas that could be black outlined aren't, and an extra hairpiece wouldn't go amiss. Blue Beetle (9/10): Another one I was really looking forward to and wasn't disappointed. Aside from more missing outlines and another missed opportunity for an extra hairpiece, the main problem I had with Beetle was the face. The eyes are a bit too high again, and the mouth just looks a bit weird. Battle-damaged Superman (9/10): I like that it's the black-centred S, it helps make Superman look more evil. I also love the face, which looks pretty cool when swapped onto the Wave 1 Superman. The same goes for interchanging the arms, legs and cape, so this Minimate is useful for that as well as good in itself. Brainiac (9/10): I'm not really familiar with this character in the comics, so I couldn't comment on accuracy, but this is my first 2.5" Minimate and I have to say I like it. The armour and tentacle things make it really stand out from what's come before.
  13. My guess; GL Alan Scott / Jade Adam Strange / Lobo Superboy-Prime / Superboy (Conner Kent) Battle-damaged Green Arrow / 2.5" Brick
  14. Sorry it's been a while, I had a dissertation to finish. Now, to the point first up is a bit of Fantastic 4. I decided they needed to look more of a team, so went for a look a bit closer to the film. I also yellow inked Johnny Storm's legs and eyes, although the eyes look to contrast the face a lot more in the photo than they do in real life. Next is some more Justice League. I had to re-sculpt a cape for Martian Manhunter because the one he had kept overbalancing him. I also took the chance to sculpt in some boot tops and a nice big forehead. Also shown is my Kyle Rayner custom, a simple Hal Jordan repaint with Iron Man hair. Finally for today is the next two members of my JSA, Starman and Mr. Terrific. Mr. Terrific uses Luke Cage's coat and the base for the head was Bishop's head.
  15. I got mine from Travelling Man Nottingham today. Don't know if they have any more though, they only had 1 of each pack on the shelf.
  16. It probably took around 2 hours of concentrated effort in all. I had to take about 70 photos, then finished it off in Windows Movie Maker. I only just got a camera able to take decent photos of Minimates (although a lot of the detail is lost in YouTube) but I'll definitely have to look into a stand for it. I was thinking of making maybe a trailer or something, collecting a few clips like that.
  17. Click here. Here's a bit of a mess-around I did this afternoon. It's my first attempt at stop-motion, so don't be too hard on it
  18. I've been asking at Forbidden Planet and Travelling Man for a couple of weeks now, and none of the staff seem to have a clue when they are out. I went along hopefully today, but alas, no Minimates
  19. I've now changed Lex Luthor a bit. He now has Green eyes, reddish-brown eyebrows (I think he was a redhead originally) and a kryptonite knife. Also shown is my new Batman. It was supposed to be an amalgam of the C3 and DCD versions. I based it on Dark Knight Batman (from the Batmobile), with a repainted belt, blue inner cape, painted on underpants and a completely repainted C3 Batgirl mask. I also altered the muscle design on the chest a bit.
  20. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I won't get better without it! Alpheon: I did think about re-sculpting the top of the cape, but I'm at Uni and I don't have any of my tools or sculpting stuff with me. I might revisit him at some point though. As for Spidey, do you think a lighter blue shadow on the white parts would work? He looked too plain with just a black torso. TENIME_art: Think you're right about Lex's head, I'll go and change that now. And your customs are pretty cool. I think your business suit Luthor beats mine
  21. Here's some more - first up is Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern. The head is from Nick Fury (repainted) and the cloak was originally Emma Frost's. I'm fairly happy with most of this, though perhaps the detail lines on the face are too thick. I was trying to make him look older. This was a more simple one; a Lex Luthor made from Bruce Wayne with a repainted torso, and a Magneto head. Colin Farrell's performance as Bullseye was probably the best thing about the Daredevil film, so this had to be done. Non-standard parts used include Punisher's coat and New X-men Cyclops' belt. The head was carefully selected to be just the right amount of psychotic, from M. Bison Finally (for today) is my very own Symbiote Spidey. It took ages to do the Spider pattern, and I'm still not sure about the blue highlights, any opinions...
  22. As promised, here's some more. Some of them were taken just before final neatening up, so there may be a couple of smudges there that aren't any more. First up is one of Minimates' most wanted, the Flash. I really wanted one, but they're way too expensive for my liking, so enter one Minimate body and one Captain America helmet. The entire body is a repaint, and I decided to do it more in the style of the new DC mates than the existing Flash. Next up is another one I wanted in my collection, Martian Manhunter. Again, a straightforward Minimate head and body, with a partly repainted M. Bison cape. This Clark Kent was pretty simple, just the head from C3 Dark Knight Batman, with painted-on glasses. The body is obviously Professor X's and the hair is repainted from Nick Fury. Finally Ant-man. I know virtually nothing about this guy so there's probably something majorly inaccurate about the costume. I used Magneto as a base, with the Fantastic 4 box set Mr. Fantastic head and Cerebro as the helmet.
  23. Thanks for the pics and reviews guys, I'm in England so no Minimates until next week for me
  24. Thanks for the appreciation guys, glad you like them. Flash, Martian Manhunter, Ant Man and some X-men stuff is on the way, keep your eyes on this thread. I painted the black on quite thick and then outlined the lines in green to get the sharpness. Hope that makes sense All of the paints I used are Citadel Paints from Games Workshop (think it might be Rogue Trader in the US). The colour for Hulk was Goblin Green.
  25. Pretty new to Minimates, so these are the first customs I've attempted. First up is Black Canary. This was based on Catwoman, with Chun-li's arms and head (repainted) and repainted hairpiece from Batgirl. The hands are from New X-men Cyclops. EDIT: Here's a summary list to save scrolling down.
