  1. Hi guys. A few of you have been messaging asking for commissions. I obviously appreciate this, but sadly I can't do any customizing at the moment; at least until next January, maybe longer. I took a job in South Korea teaching English, and had to leave all that stuff at home. All that being said... Here you go. Full view can be found at my deviantART page by clicking on the picture there.
  2. So having not read the Ultimates, exactly what is that little thing that comes with the Iron Man? Does it attach to him? And that WW2 Cap looks very familiar...
  3. I haven't seen these posted elsewhere on the board, sorry if they have been. They just uploaded a gallery of pics at ACTION-FIGURE.COM. Included are pics of the Deadpool wave, Wolverine through the Ages, Ultimates, the Spirit, more Terminator stuff and Ghostbusters. It's all amazing! EDIT: Sorry, in my haste I think I posted this in the wrong forum. Should this be in Crisis of Infinite Minimates?
  4. I spent 3 years at Nottingham Uni. Notts has a bad reputation for violent crime, but I had few problems there - it's a really nice city for the most part.
  5. This will be pretty much it as far as this batch of Smallville goes. There's a few characters, like Lana, Tess, Jonathan and Martha Kent that I haven't done, so maybe one day... I switched the head of my 'Apocalypse' Lex onto a movie Tony Stark body, with the shirt and tie painted black. Lionel has one of the old lab coats, and Baltar hair. You might recognise Rocky's face under there, it didn't need changing much. Chloe is probably one I should have made a lot earlier. She has Power Girl's hair and Iron Fist's belt. Cyborg has a hood cut down from Training Rocky's torso. The belt might be a Razor Cylon one, not sure. Aquaman has DCD Batman hair and a hood sculpted from scratch. Supergirl has DCD Supergirl head, Firestar hair and a BSG dress uniform belt. Impulse has DCD Flash's hair, or a hood which I completely sculpted. The ends of the arms and legs are semi-transparent, which was the best way I could think of to represent the blur of his super-speed. Anyone else have any thoughts on that? I've waited far too long for a complete Smallville Justice League. Watch them add more characters now. Here's a movie-style Doctor Octopus from Spider-man 2. The coat is modified from Blade's, and the arms are Lego ones, drybrushed silver. The hair is sculpted. EDIT: The Thor has 24 George Mason head and Power Girl hair. At one point, it had a DCD Bruce Wayne head and BSG Starbuck hair, which also looked quite good. I also used Rocky 2 Rocky belt and boots, Mr. Fantastic legs and BSG Gina arms. The hammer was a parts-box build.
  6. Thank you! Whilst I'm by no stretch of imagination a qualified artist of any kind, it is a hobby of mine. Some of my stuff can be found at my deviantART gallery. I moved onto painting Minimates from Warhammer 40k models, so that might explain my preference for layers of colour. Anyway, I'm having a bit of a paint-a-thon tonight, so here are a couple more newly-finished ones. Davis Bloome has a jacket cut down from one of the 24 ones (I cut the middle section out). I finally found a use for all those cheap Lady Deathstrikes I picked up, as Spikes for Doomsday. Some of them are just sculpted, but most are Deathstrike fingers. Unfortunately, the episode didn't give us enough of a good look at him to be very accurate, but this is my impression. Lois Lane has a hairpiece sculpted from scratch. I'm not actually sure exactly what colour her hair is, it seems to be different in every photo of her. Green Arrow is a new version, a little bit more detailed than my last, and I prefer the face on this one. Expect the rest of the Justice League to be hot on his heels.
  7. Here's a few new ones. Leonidas has been in the works a long while, I just wasn't happy with the helmet. Originally I had one that was permanently attached to the head, and whilst it was a bit sleeker, I wasn't sure about the sculpted beard I'd used. In the end, I modified a Magneto helmet. The cape is cut down and sculpted over a C3 quick-change Batman one, the belt is Frodo's, and the shield is modified from Invisible Woman's. The spear is a cocktail stick with the tip from a harpoon from some sci-fi model kit. James Bond often crops up on people's custom lists, but I wanted mine to be a little different than the usual tux. He's based on one of the fights in the middle of the Casino Royale poker game. The gun is from a 24 set, and the hair is modified from Civil War Spider-man's. I'm fairly pleased with the Daniel Craig resemblance. Iron Man is heavily inspired (copied) from TBT!'s recent Warmachine custom. I liked the slimmer chest armour, which was basically achieved by cutting the corners off. I then proceeded to add several layers of red ink. I also re-did the gold with yellow ink, just to tie him in with the rest of my Iron Men. The Stormtrooper from Star Wars is another project that's been on my desk for a while, and he's still missing a blaster rifle. The helmet is made from the front of a SW Lego one, with the back fully sculpted, so it's removable. It is quite bulky, but the angle of the photo accentuates this a bit. The belt is Nick Fury's, and all the rest of it is painted on.
  8. I come from a town called Bury, in England. We have a 'world famous' market, which no one outside the town seems to have heard of. I actually work in a district called Upper Ramsbottom. I'm about to move out to South Korea for 12 months.
  9. I agree with you on the bulky chestpiece and like what you did to sort it out; I may be trying that on my Movie Iron Man. Am I the only one who will happily hack up a chase or exclusive figure for a custom?
  10. Isn't there a mid-season break after this episode? I hope we see enough to get a decent look. I can almost start a custom based off the trailer, but need a little more. Twisted Two-face, I'll probably go with your idea of using Movie Hulk, but if he's black I can use the Powerhouse chest and a Civil War Spider-man mask over another Minimate body and head . We'll see. I'm not a fan of Tess at all really, but maybe I'll try and complete the cast at some point.
  11. 2 updates in one week! Actually, expect relatively more frequent updates over the coming weeks as I make a determined effort to finish off WIPS, some of which I've had on the go for over a year. First up, Yellowjacket. In the absence of 3" Minimates from my parts box, I adjusted a 2.5" body by adding height at the ankles, waist and mask, so he's now just a fraction under 3" Everything is sculpted, except the 'wings', which are made from a cut-up plastic card, and the antennae, which are just cut up wires. Longshot was a commissioned piece. Non-standard parts include Blade's belt and Nina Myers hair (modified at the back). The collar and bandolier are sculpted. Well, my Smallville 'Justice' 'mates seem to be the most popular thing I've done on here, and probably my personal favourites. Now that they're in someone else's collection, I decided to revisit the idea. The first two are based on the episode 'Apocalypse', . Both use Patch jackets, and Clark's hair is sculpted over SM3 emo Pete's. Obviously, I needed a basic Clark, and again Luke Cage's jacket and Jay Garrick's beltpiece served me well. The hair is modified from one of the Tony Stark pieces from IM Through the Ages. Martian Manhunter uses Jack Bauer's coat, and Black Canary has SM3 Eddie Brock's hairpiece (again, slightly modified). Martian Manhunter also looks really cool on the red transclucent flame base from IM Through the Ages. I went for a slightly different approach for my new Bizarro Clark. Starting with a basic Clark face, with a bit more evil expression, I painted half of it to look like the familiar cracked visage. This way, I can eventually paint a face on the back of the head so it can double as a red-K Clark. The hairpiece is from one of the Movie Iron Men, and the jacket is from SM3 Eddie Brock. In 'Identity', . The head is modified from Helo's, and the cape is cut down from M'Bison's. The hood is sculpted. More Smallville on the way soon! EDIT: I realised the pics were tiny, so replaced them, and I forgot to post Snake Eyes. He has a removable Lego motorcycle helmet visor, Deathstroke bandolier (with Blade's sword and scabbard and Punisher's holster on the back), an Ultimate X-men belt (with Punisher's knife stuck on) and a cut-down Brickarms submachine gun. I wanted a simplistic look for this custom, so aside from the add-on parts, there's no painted detail, it's a black blank under there. This weapons-fest looks slightly less impressive if you've seen the Deadpool concept art, but in my defence I did mine before I saw it.
  12. JoePants - sorry, I must have missed your question. The jacket is from one of the 24 figures, David Palmer I think. The latest. Two-face from 'The Dark Knight'. The source I used was the action figure pictured. The jacket is a hacked-up Patch one, and the hair is sculpted from scratch. Superman from 'Superman Returns'. Powerhouse chest with a Superman cape stuck on. The hair is also from DCD Superman, but I re-sculpted the front to match the film more. Callisto (this one was a commission). The jacket is a cut-down SM3 Eddie Brock one, the hair, bracelet and chains are sculpted. Modern Wasp. The wing assembly was cut off Hawkgirl, then I carefully attached her wing pins to the wings from a Superhero Squad Wasp, so they're fully articulated. Hair is from Nina Myers, and the head is from Kim Bauer. Conan the Barbarian (another commission). The skirt is Von Doom's, with a LotR Legolas sword and scabbard. The hair is sculpted over Vice President Baltar's.
  13. You're right, it is a pretty good likeness, although I've already nearly finished Lois' face. After watching the trailer for the next episode, I'm joining you in the Doomsday custom club. Looks like they're going for a classic look.
  14. Just counting ones I've actually started... Marvel - Callisto, Longshot, 7 different Iron Man armours, Yellowjacket, Wasp, 8 SHIELD troopers, Nick Fury. Smallville - Clark, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Black Canary, Watchtower, Lois Lane, 'Apocalypse' Clark, 'Apocalypse' Lex, 'Identity' Oliver. Movies - Superman Returns, Two-face, 'Casino Royale' James Bond, 'T2' Arnold Schwarzenegger, 'T2' T1000, Stormtrooper, Darth Vader. Others - Conan, Snake-eyes, rebuilt Hall of Armour for Iron Man.
  15. That's funny, because I have a nearly-finished Smallville Black Canary on my desk right now!
  16. Glad you're back Tenime, and I look forward to seeing more of your awesome customs soon!
  17. My brother got some Best-Lock tanks a while back. Obviously, it's not as good quality as Lego, but as far as these sorts of building sets go, they're pretty durable and well-made. Hopefully the scale isn't too out to be unworkable. EDIT: Shame they don't ship outside the US.
  18. I have hardly heard of any of those characters, but love the custom work on them. What tools do you use for sculpting with the apoxy?
  19. Interesting. So with the same shield being seen in Tony's workshop in Iron Man, I wonder if/how this fits together. Maybe SHIELD already has the frozen Cap and is trying to revive him...
  20. More new stuff, this time back to some comic-themed customs. First up I was commissioned to re-do a couple of my older customs, Hush and Ultimate WW2 Captain America, and there are enough differences to make them worth posting up. Hush has the head from my original Hush custom (with a neatened up paint job), Punisher's coat and guns from one of the 24 sets. Captain America uses a BSG officer jacket, modified with cut up bits of plastic. The belt is from New X-men Cyclops I think. The shield is made from an old credit card, enhanced with a sculpted front and a handle made from the strap from Punisher's pistol holster, so now he holds it instead of has it hung off his wrist. The helmet is Sgt. Rock's again, and this time I carefully cut the front of a New Avengers Cap mask off and stuck it on the front, so the mask is fully removable. The 'A' on the front is also sculpted on, rather than painted. Here's the original version for comparison. The new version of Captain America, complete with metallic blue parts. This is basically a repainted New Avengers Cap, with Deathstroke boots and a Rocky head. The belt is from a BSG pilot, with a pistol holster from the same stuck on the side. Finally, all my Captains America in one shot...
  21. Stark's head is actually Assault Punisher's with the goatee painted on and hair from DCD Nightwing.
  22. Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! Fujis - The mask is a cut down and heavily re-sculpted version of the C3 Chemical Warehouse Batman one. Trekker42 - If you look back a page or two I already did the Joker, but Two-face could be a good idea as well, though currently I'm working on a Superman Returns style Superman.
  23. Well, I'm back now and been working on a few customs, the first of which to be finished is The Dark Knight himself, based on the movie costume. The belt is re-sculpted from New X-men Cyclops and the cowl is a heavily modified Chemical Warehouse Batman one. The gauntlets are cut-down versions of those from the same Batman. The cape is made of cloth, glued on to two wires at either side, which are held in place by being stuck into the back of his shoulders. This allows the famous flying wings, as well as various other fluttering in the wind poses. The mask is removable, but at the moment it's damaging the Christian Bale face I painted underneath as it comes off, so some modification needed there. Also shown is the Lego Batpod I made. Simple enough, it's made mostly from Technic parts and odd bits ordered from Bricklink. The handlebars you may recognise from the C3 Bat-glider.
  24. Here's the Viper Dan was talking about. I'd also recommend bricklink for parts. My trick was to copy the Viper blueprint from shipschematics.net and build it around a Minimate, and that way you can be sure it fits in. In my case, I had to rebuild my first attempt because the Minimate couldn't get out!
  25. I'll be there for 3 days from Wednesday night, and using public transport/good old walking mostly. I'm staying in a hostel that I think is in the old town. Also, yeah, meeting up would be cool with me.
