  1. It's too bad you're not into the three inchers.
  2. The Hunt-Mate is not a DC minimate. He is if you strap him to a battery. ...and I have the sneaking suspicion that you have... Hmmm, Now that you mention it. Not the same as one featuring a kitty, I know.

  4. Thanks for the link. I'm really curious on how they're doing Salakk. New torso or auxiliary piece that plugs in on top? Something about the mask on Cyborg (I think?) is a little off-putting. Always good to see new Minimates though.
  5. There's also a comment in the newsletter that I think people will be interested in. I wonder if participant means "registered for a kit," "picked up their kit," or "turned in their kit."
  6. It's interesting how "prohibiting the rental or sale of violent video games to minors in California" is translated to "banning video games! OMFG!!!1!" by people on the Internet. If you want to get a point across, try to represent the facts accurately and lose the Terminator puns. That being said, I agree with the judge that the law violates the Right to Free Speech.
  7. The quote button is useful if you want to quote multiple posts at once. Simply click the quote button under each post that you want to appear in your own post. It turns red if you clicked it successfully. After you have selected all the posts you wish to quote, click the reply button and *poof* there they are. Like magic it is.
  8. According to Chuck at SDCC, they are. All the Minimate styled movie poster licenses (except Rain Man) are planned for production. Including Desperately Seeking Susan. Obviously they won't produce waves of DSS Minimates, but DST seemed excited about it nonetheless.
  9. With all The Hunt hullabaloo I had forgotten that I took a handful of photos at the panel with the intent of showing them on the board. They didn't turn out all that well because I seemed to mistime the jokes and couldn't catch anyone smiling. Anyway, here's the best of the lot. (Click for 600x900 resolution.) Jaycen Bye and Mike (Leavey?) tempt us with Avengers. A shot of the day's panel, Chuck Terceira, Donna Soldano and Eddie Wires. Closeups of the esteemed panelists. This was near the end of the panel, and there was quite a turnout. Ignore the empty seats in the foreground, nobody want to sit near the MMMV regulars. Here's Mike at the end of the panel telling me (and almost everyone else in the room), No Avengers for you.
  10. Heh, wait until you see the Kubrick section. Actually, I had originally considered making a generalized Block Figure Database including Minimates, Palz, Kubricks, I-Men, Myclone, etc. But I realized I don't have the drive, access, or love of those lines like I do for Minimates. I might actually get the Palz up one day because it is a dead line and I already have most of the figures. But since Minimate releases show no sign of slowing down, that day will keep getting pushed back.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like nobody has posted images from the second wave of Battlestar Galactica Minimates that AFX had for sale at SDCC. Usually there is such a rush to be first with pictures, I'm surprised there aren't any on the board yet. Exterior packaging is just like the first series, so I'm not going to bother with those shots here. Here are the trays so you can see the accessories. AFX wasn't selling the variant pack, so I only have the basic set. (Click for larger images of the figures.) Admiral Adama Colonel Tigh Lieutenant Boomer Vice President Baltar Caprica Six Cannon Centurion Cylon As far as I can tell, the only difference is the copyright text. The Cylon released in this wave has a 2007 date, and the text is white. The older Cylon is 2006 and printed in black. I'm open to picture requests if anybody wants something specific.
  12. Thanks everyone. Well, I only have one reference point so I can't say which way is easier, but I think solo was the best way for me. It's just my nature to try and handle things myself. Timbo's point about being able to bounce ideas off your team members is right-on though. For example, one Creative Challenge was to turn in a Minimate-sized food item. Obviously they meant a chicken leg or a hamburger scaled down so that a Minimate could eat it. For some reason I interpreted the challenge to mean a human-edible food item roughly the size of a Minimate. So I turned in half a candy bar. (It was a 100 Grand bar, if anyone's curious.) If I had a teammate, they would have pointed out my silly interpretation and I wouldn't have had to figure out how to write my team number on a candy bar and prevent it from melting all over my kit. A question for everyone: Does anybody have a copy of The Hunt prize list? All the old DST links for the Hunt lead me to their homepage or an Invalid ArticleID. The news archive link also brings up a 404. The rules page still works, but that's about it.
  13. As has been said previously, I had a one man team for The Hunt. I didn't want to have to split any potential winnings so I went solo. Taking pictures of yourself holding a Minimate while making sure your T-Shirt is visible is not as easy as it may sound. Coming up with a team name was also a difficult task. Questionable Charisma, Tyranny Cylinder, and Critter Modulator were all strong contenders, but due to fatigue and a lack of faith in actually winning anything I ended up being named Space Monkey Alliance. Which sounds even more stupid when spoken aloud. I hit the contest pretty hard, a few photos Thursday night, a bunch more on Friday, and all of Saturday was used finishing up the Creative Challenges. On to the photos. Picture of your Minimate inside a sushi roll. It's been a long time, but apparently I can still use chopsticks. Who knew? Picture of you and your Minimate staring at someone in a strange costume. Apparently he didn't put any of those flyers on himself, he made the various booth workers apply them. Not surprisingly nothing had yet been applied to his pants. Picture of your Minimate beating up any other non-Minimate figure. I actually like Cuboyds, not as much as Minimates or Stikfas, but the balance of the two has a certain charm. Picture of a celebrity wearing your Minimate hunt T-Shirt. Harrison Ford is a celebrity, right? I have a feeling I might not have gotten credit for this one because it was a representation of Han Solo and not Harrison Ford. This was going to be my "Kiss From a 70s/80s/90s TV Star" until I realized the Big Screen Yoda is a master of, the Silver Screen not. Picture of your Minimate dressed in a Barbie beach theme. Here's a representation of most of the photos that I'm not showing here. A quick hack job to meet the requirements. I really wanted to put a lot of creativity into all the photos but the time restrictions made that very difficult. Picture of you and your Minimate battling Stormtroopers I thought this photo would lead me to victory. The 20 stormtroopers in there weren't enough unfortunately. There was probably a hundred in the box and I should have taken the time and spread them all out, but I figured 20 was enough. Picture of your Minimate at the monkey house of the San Diego Zoo. This is the photo that won for "Best Interpretation of a Challenge Requirement". I whipped this up from some "Visit San Diego" brouchures in the Convention Center lobby. Create a shoe-box sized Minimate living room diorama. Please excuse the crudity of this model, I didn't have time to build it to scale or to paint it. Since we had some advance notice on this Challenge and I had some extra foamcore lying around, I came up with this. I had wanted to replicate the living room from The Brady Bunch but since I wouldn't get any extra points for the effort, I went generic. Create a Minimate-style poster for any movie starting with the letter S. I had a lot of fun making this and it went over very well at the pub meetup. To tell the truth, I almost posted it here before I left for San Diego but I didn't want to tip my hand. All in all, I really enjoyed "The Hunt." Even though I didn't win Gold and Silver I still won a prize and had a good time making the effort. Most importantly The Hunt was the primary factor in getting me to go to SDCC this year. If I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have met all the great guys from the board. Hanging out at the pub is probably what I'll remember most from the convention... is that sad?
  14. I'd like to apologize for the quality of that photo. I forgot to adjust the shutter speed to compensate for the Big Flash before handing the camera off to the hostess. That's why you see the funky motion blur around several faces. Maybe I'll apply a sepia filter, make it all dark, grainy and artistic-like. Then I can claim the motion blur was intentional. Yeah that's the ticket, intentional. [EDIT: added] Yeah, artistic-like. Sometimes you want to go...
  15. Yeah, there used to be a link at the top but it disappeared last Thursday or Friday, I think. Here's the link: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?automodule=blog Cherish it. 'Tis sad, all those poor abandoned blogs. They must be so lonely, with no one to look after them or take care of them. I wouldn't be surprised if any one of them turned to a life of crime. I can see it now, Luke's Words of Wisdom is standing at the corner convenience store with a .44 in his hand. All L-Double-Double (L-DubDub to his close friends) has to do is clean out the till and he'll finally be a full member of the Robba-Bloggas gang. Once he has their trust, he'll have it made. But something goes wrong. The idiotic clerk lunges toward L-DubDub. He fires. The shot narrowly misses the clerk, but the result is much more dire. The errant bullet shatters the front window, ricochets off a nearby shovel, and punctures the huge propane storage tank* outside. They say you could see the fireball three miles away. If somebody had only paid attention to little L-DubDub. *This particular convenience store is located somewhere in rural Oklahoma.
  16. I can't decide between Satan's Cheerleaders and Santa with Muscles. If anyone needs ideas, check out this list at Deep Discount (with thumbnails). Sure, anyone can do a Superman or Star Trek, but who has the cojones to try Sense and Sensibility?
  17. If you want to turn it off for yourself follow these simple steps: 1) Click the "My Controls" link that resides to the right of the "Logged in as: TM2 Dinobot" text at the near top of any page. This will take you to your Control Panel. 2) Click the "Board Settings" link on the left side of the page under the "Options" heading. It's almost at the bottom of the list. 3) Scroll down to the "Posting Settings" heading in the middle of the page. The second option under this heading is "Type of text editor to use when posting." Here you can select, as I have, "Standard Editor." 4) Scroll down to the bottom of this page and save your settings by hitting the "Change my Account Options" button. 5) Praise Ivan. If you want to turn it off for everyone follow these steps: 1) Obtain an Administrator's password and login with it. 2) Go to the Board Administration link....NO CARRIER
  18. Sad news indeed. Your reviews have such clarity and attention to detail. I mean, MMC is the only place you can go to find copyright date-, torso hole-, and knee joint-variations. That level of devotion is hard to find. Thank you for sharing it with us. Your presence will be (and has been) missed, but as preferences and attentions change, so must we all. I wish you all the best in whatever project or hobby you choose next. Good journey.
  19. I want to add that the 4 packs are a bit hard to come by. Then again, not a lot of people are looking for them. They'll pop up on eBay from time to time, but usually end at more than I'm willing to pay. It's hard for me to pay double retail price for a package where I have the figures several times over. If anyone's interested, here are a couple completed auctions with pictures: Ultimate X-Men 4 Pack Hulk/Daredevil 4 Pack
  20. Thanks guys. It feels nice to give back to the community who've given... from whom I've taken so much. I'd imagine it will be quite a chore to keep it up to date with the heavy release schedule. The database part is easy enough, but taking all the pictures, then rotating, cropping, color-correcting and resizing is very time consuming. It's a good thing that The GIMP is scriptable. You can probably tell from the variation in the figure pictures that it took at least three (I lost count) separate photo shoots to get them all. I'll probably end up taking me more than a week to get new releases up because I buy most of my Minimates online, and I always choose the cheapest shipping. Thanks again.
  21. He'll only cost you about $300. Although that is coming down a bit in the last little while.
