  1. I've been keeping an eye on the news, but so far the fires are a good distance away from my town of La Mesa. I just moved to CA in August, and now I hear people talking in the grocery store about this fire or that fire in years past, or who they know who lost a house. My wife says her office is considering shutting down until the fires are under control. It is truly some scary stuff.
  2. I'm of the opinion that the mascot should not be an existing licensed character. The strength of the Minimates line is that it is a phenomenon that spans multiple licenses, including original characters like the Hunt Mate. Shouldn't we honor the easy customizability of the line by creating our own custom character? But these are details that can be ironed out in the future. I completely agree with TM2, the next step should be to get the day officially recognized by the Powers That Be (by which I mean AA, DST, DCD). Surely the mods can step in at this point? ***edited for clarification***
  3. It looks like everyone is in agreement on June 14th, so I amended the thread subtitle. Let's keep throwing around ideas for ways to celebrate! How about posting pics of your 'mates around (or bursting out of) a birthday cake?
  4. You know, that's actually a really great idea, pickle, and it sounds like it wouldn't require us to deal with any licensing issues. Some would want a pack to support the site, some would want extra accessories for diorama building and customizing, and still others would want a pack or two to replace lost parts. Plenty of us need an extra hair piece or flame ball or whatnot. We could even have a poll to determine what the most-desired pieces are. I could see lots of people ordering several of these packs. (And, let me thank you personally for bringing back an old thread rather than starting a new one. It's one of my pet peeves too!)
  5. I'm not sure we'll ever know the exact date that Minimates first appeared on store shelves. That's a terrific resource, Ivan. I can't believe I never came across it before. I noticed a certain trend in that Community History page. -The first pics of Star Trek 'mates came out in June ('02), which, if I understand right, were the first pics of any minimates ever seen. -minimatescentral.com opened in June ('04). -minimatemultiverse.com opened in June ('05), and becomes the official forum of minimatescentral. Can you see where I'm going with this? I still really like the idea of the 14th being the date, due to the 14 points of articulation. So, with a lump in my throat, may I humbly propose: June 14th?
  6. I think we ought to declare a certain day of the year to be the OFFICIAL Minimate Day! A day on which we celebrate all that is wonderful about our little obsessions. There shall be feasting, drinking, diorama building, feats of strength, and so on! The date ought to be the 14th, in honor of the 14 points of articulation. But, I can't think of a compelling reason to choose one month over any other. What are your suggestions? Discuss!
  7. Gotcha. In that case, let me put the call out to trade a right foot with anyone who happens to have two left feet! Two left Rocky feet, that is. I don't really care about your dancing skills.
  8. Just got the Rocky set, and I'm very pleased with them. I noticed that Training Rocky has the same Chuck Taylors that the 2007 Hunt Minimate has. But then I looked closer. My Training Rocky's shoes do not have the white-circle-blue-star paint app on the left side of both shoes (the figure's left hand side). Is this the way it is for everyone's Training Rocky? My Hunt mate has the logo on both sides of each shoe.
  9. That is great news, but maybe it should have gone in one of the existing threads for Wave 6. This one is well established: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.ph...60&start=60 Whereas this one has but a few posts: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=3480
  10. Now that I know the Wal-Mart exclusive disc is lame, I don't feel like I have to have it, so thanks to NightViper for that. As far as I'm concerned, hands down the best exclusive is the Target transforming package.
  11. I'd say that the thighs are probably a tad "too" short on the Minimate body, given that the femur is the longest bone in the human body. But, that's no criticism of Minimates - the Minimate body design is clearly the pinnacle of human artistic achievement. Our society is downhill from here, folks!
  12. Fantastic! Even when your site was 'closed' it was a very useful resource. I'm looking forward to the new reviews!
  13. When I last checked, both the Joe & Cobra 5-packs are in stock, and the coupon code is: 25FALL which gets you 25% off AND free shipping! It's an amazing deal!
  14. Hey, I like what you're saying about a 'training guide' for newbies, and older members too for good measure. I would think it would be easy to automatically and instantly send a PM to each newly opened account. It could run down the basics of when not to post new topics, how to use the Flea Market, etc.
  15. TBT! my friend, you speak the gospel. You've inspired me to post my own thread about this very issue in the Feedback area. Now back to the original discussion, here is my suggestion for anyone losing the passion. Take all your Minimates, every single one, and pack them up in boxes and put them in the closet. Remove any visual cue from your collecting room that would remind you of Minimates. If you get a shipment of new stuff in and aren't particularly keen on opening them, pack them away too. Let your stuff sit for a week minimum, maybe two weeks or even a month. Eventually, you will start to get the itch to play with a few. Go to your closet and bring out ONE two-pack. Have a ball, but just get out two Minimates. The next day, two more, and so on. Maybe pull two at random. But above all else, don't bring them all out at once. You see, what you need to do is re-collect your own collection. I guarantee you'll find the little buggers fun again, and it's MUCH cheaper than selling & re-buying your collection. You'll be a mini-holic again in no time.
  16. First, let me say this is a terrific forum and I'm really happy to be a part of it. I've made some great trades and friends, and it's one of the few sites I visit on a daily basis. But I've got to say, I think the threads are getting very disorganized, especially in the TV & Movie Minimates area. There are entirely too many threads where the topic starter asks when such and such will be released - these are NOT NECESSARY. These new topics then get a few random posts discussing the wave (or waves, as in BTTF & 24), then a new topic pops up and discussion starts all over. When it comes to release information, nobody knows, and if they did know, they ought to put a post in the existing thread for that product. All these threads that just ask when such and such will be released only clutter up the boards, so I suggest that there could be ONE pinned master thread for the most updated release information for every single line of minimates. On the first page of the TV & Movie area, there are FIVE threads that all deal with when certain waves will be released. People frequently post new threads to ask questions that could easily be asked within existing threads. I count TWENTY TWO threads that deal with Star Trek minimates, which is ridiculous. If I want to comment about these minis, I have no idea which thread to use anymore. I think something needs to be done. It seems to make sense to me that we have ONE thread for discussing each wave, ONE thread for each exclusive item, and additional threads to discuss the specifics of individual figures or contests as needed. Perhaps each product line could have one thread for posting custom figures and things, such as the Trek transporter PDF project. I think the flea market reorganization has worked really well, so I know organization could work in other areas. I'm saying all this stuff because I love this website and I want it to prosper, and I think my suggestions would be helpful. Thanks for taking the time to read this, Jad Bean aka Soylent Bean
  17. Now this is a great example of squeezing out two new characters using mostly existing parts. I believe the Kat hair piece is new and the back-mounted Cylon gun is new of course, but the rest is a rehash that makes perfect sense. Hopefully DST can also put together a similar set to get us Anders, Tory, Leoben, etc.
  18. Very cool service, and not outrageously priced. I wonder how many customizers are thinking of recreating LOTR wave 3.... Another thought I had (non-minimate related) would be to make a 3D model of your own head, print it out, and whip up a custom action figure of yourself. 'Course, making that 3D model can't be easy...
  19. Man, that sucks. I've overpaid for things before, and I tell myself that sometimes I get good deals too, so hopefully it all balances out in the end. And I can understand a store closing their doors promptly. But if a comic store guy ever flipped me off, I'd NEVER EVER go back there again. What a chump!
  20. I've got to think that there's enough room for another wave, considering we don't yet have Anders, Cavill, Tory, etc. The existing molds (blue uniforms, flight suits, business suits) could easily be reused in another wave. Remember, plenty of franchises support toy lines long after their shows end (Star Trek & Stargate come to mind).
  21. Welcome aboard, Rick. I think you'll find now is the best time to start collecting Minimates, because there's so many interesting ones to look forward to: Star Trek, BSG, Back to the Future, Rocky, For A Few Dollars More, and of course DC and Marvel!
  22. I'm of the same opinion on DOFP Wolvie. I'll get it if I can find it cheap, but I'm not paying a premium for it.
  23. Just got my Cylon & Hunt mates! They were delayed because I moved, and because of that I actually never expected to get these. The tampos on the Hunt guy are AWESOME! With a quick head swap, it'll be my new mini-me!
  24. I believe the recent product descriptions that say 2.5" are taking into account the fact that hair pieces & hats make the figures slightly taller than 2 inches. Rest assured, the 24, BTTF, etc. minimates will be based on the same bodies as the Marvel, DC, BSG, etc. Now back to the topic, these are going to RULE! And they should make a horse at some point, as it could be used for BTTF3, Planet of the Apes minimates (not announced, but my fingers are crossed), and so many more lines!
  25. I wouldn't necessarily kill for them, but it's not a bad idea. I used little self-screwing eyelets to turn some Wallace & Gromit PVC figures into Christmas ornaments, so I'm sure you could do it with Minimates. To make sure the Minimates' parts don't go flying everywhere, I'd glue certain joints, like the waist, wrists, and ankles.
