  1. Maybe DST can try to aim for some crossover-marketing for this set? Obviously not everyone who played this game is a Minimate collector and vise versa; maybe for a better chance at selling through they should try to market these as some generic monster-type villains for the DC/Marvel magic-based characters and other guys to wail on. You know, to fill the void while we're still waiting on mates of the canon villains.
  2. Ooh, ooh! Get a camera and pose Clayface in there and we can trick NASA into thinking Minimates are Martian in origin!
  3. I'm guessing this same rule also applies to Treasure Island, Romeo and Juliet, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Oh what the hell.
  4. Since at this rate the "wibbly wobbly timey wimey" excuse is sure to be overused to death by now, I like to think of it as a side effect of Pandorica-induced universe resetting. I wonder if Moffat ever made an official statement about this specific lapse of continuity?
  5. I've discussed this in chat with another boardie before, but I'd always wondered how common "Hate The Character, Hate The Minimate" Syndrome really was. Truth be told I would have bought that boxset just because I thought Tarot and the gothy ghost girl (drawing a blank on her name right now) looked kinda cool - in Minimate form, at least. Though that discussion probably deserves to be its own thread.
  6. There's always the Parts Exchange thread in the Flea Market forum, though truth be told I can't vouch for how effective that is so far. If you're looking for anything specific you can always put out an open-call-type thread in the Customs forum I guess. But I sort of get what you mean about the thrill of finding "hidden treasures" () in random Minimate parts lots. Perhaps one day I'll be able to stumble on that one lot which will get me all the guns, swords, Lockheeds, hospital gurneys, chainsaws and hairless cats I'll ever need!
  7. ... I just realized I don't have this set yet. (hint hint) Remember that time we used to complain there weren't enough "baddies" in the Minimate line? I think this set now sort of paints that dilemma in a new light.
  8. Usually the elbows aren't as delicate as the knee joints; I can imagine you'd put them back together as easily as you would any other Minimate ball joint. I found this out just very recently, I probably would not recommend taking apart a Minimate knee without some serious customizing experience though.
  9. All my mates are still in storage right now, but in case I ever display them I think I'll just include the "essential" accessories so to speak. Wave 28 Deadpool and movie Punisher both have piles of weapons, so I'd probably just display them with guns akimbo and then safely stow away everything else. The Green Lanterns (or at least just Hal) will be displayed with their power batteries, the BSG Viper pilots keep their guns in their holsters, etc. As far as organizing accessories go, my current system separates them by license (Marvel, DC, moviemates, etc.), then by wave. Mostly, anyway, I'd probably need a much bigger tackle box if I was serious about separating every single wave/boxset.
  10. I know Miss Marvel has elbow-length gloves, the problem is they're asymmetrical near the shoulder and have a very feminine shape to them. I think Nessex's idea is still the best though. It's also helpful to remember that Minimate arms can be disassembled at the elbow joint with some gentle coaxing; you can save time on painting by finding a lower arm the color of the glove you want and then combine it with a flesh-colored upper arm, then just paint over the elbow joint area.
  11. God, seeing that art just makes me want that Fantomex minimate more. I read the first 3 issues of this title. Neither Havok, nor Polaris have shown up. Since they are both in their classic duds and not Black&Grey uniforms, I imagine they might be introduced later as peripheral characters rather than members of 'X-Men Death Squad'. It's been a while since I've caught up on comic events, but here's my question: what the heck happened to Rachel?
  12. Oh wow, I just caught up on this series again and the multi-parter has been a riot! Can't wait for the thrilling conclusion! Poor basket case Bob.
  13. I'm somewhat of a like mind among those who said character selection for the first wave was what did this line in. However I still really liked the Darkstalkers mates we did get (Morrigan was part of the reason I took up collecting minimates full time, and Lilith was one of my bigger HTF grails for a while), so I'm not sure how much I would have liked wave 1 without them. If I were DST, what I would have done was not change the lineup but take a slightly bigger risk and release waves 1 and 2 at the same time like they did with Marvel waves 1-3. Oh, and possibly do away with the redundant P2 colorways. That way even if the line did end prematurely, the sting of missed characters wouldn't hurt as much as it does now. Just my 2 cents.
  14. Glad you decided to say hello! Here's wishing you a warm official Christmas welcome to the Multiverse!
  15. Ultimate Colossus is the gay one. Alternate continuity, remember? And for the last time, Admiral Cain and Gina from BSG. Batwoman and Renee Montoya from DC. Why do people always forget the lesbians?
  16. You've been on the Internet for far too long, BHM.
  17. And they've got Agent Zero putting out fires! I guess this is the Minimate Alternate Universe where we have more fires than violent crime.
  18. Merry Christmas and a Happy Howdy to you! Glad to see you like the look of the new Battle Beast gators. I don't mind them myself, but I'm still crossing my fingers we might see some other animals in beast form for a change.
  19. Now I'M confused. Maybe DST just photoshopped their own pic of a gator?
  20. Seriously speaking though, I kind of really feel bad for that stuntman's family. Imagine, your livelihood and health all threatened by a musical about guys in dorky-even-by-Broadway-standards costumes that hasn't even opened to the public yet! That's some surrealist nightmare stuff right there.
  21. Really? That's one hell of a continuity nod! Speaking of McCoy, the 1998 TV movie was on YouTube for a little while. I don't even want to dwell on how they convinced him to in that one
  22. I'll probably get a better grasp of my full opinion of Series 5 after a proper reviewing, but I do like to mention a couple of personal observations I've had. 1. There is a definite shift in tone here from the RTD/Tennant era. You can't deny that. I know I'm not a longtime Who fan and that the old-timers like to argue about which Doctor was best and which showrunner did worse and so on until the cows come home, but given how old the franchise itself is (I remembered being genuinely surprised back in high school that this was on the air longer than Star Trek), I appreciate the fact that change is a central part of the show and that no season can ever hope to be fully "identical" to another. Having said that, Eleven is my Doctor. I'm not afraid to admit that. I'm not just saying this to break away from the mold of the Ten diehards or anything, but somehow after the mild trauma/disorientation of having only had Eccleston for one season and having Tennant's intense survivor angst dominate the other 3, the Moffat /Smith season really felt like a breath of fresh air to me because for once it felt like I was actually enjoying myself while watching. Of course this is just my opinion, as a late-generation viewer I probably just reaped the full benefits of the show successfully growing its beard so to speak. 2. After pondering over some of the finale's more glaring plotholes for a while, I've since managed to come up with my own potentially-ridiculous theory as to why . I don't want to go too much into length here, but let's just say Steven Moffat making no secret of him aiming for a more "fairy tale" tone for this new series has vastly influenced my humble n00b opinion on this bit.
  23. A small thread necro since Christmas is coming soon! Also, I just got the Season 5 DVD set a couple weeks ago and I'm just waiting to set aside some time to marathon the episodes again. Also I never did get to watch the Confidential episodes linked to these so it'll be fun seeing what I'd missed.
  24. Forget the cookies, I think I want to buy him a beer or a puppy or something. Personally I'm of the opinion that barring the more regrettable QC issues we'd been having lately, Minimates are already one of the better toy lines released at this scale. Of course that still doesn't account for the vast majority of consumers out there that still think $4 block figures are silly, but given my undying interest in mini-figures in general and the sort of mass-market product that is available these days, I really do wish that whatever else us collectors might be up to a few years down the line, Minimates would still be available and Marvel might even be up to Wave 87 or something... As far as I can see though, DST is still a fairly small company with neither the widescale brand recognition nor endless resources as Hasbro or Mattel, and we loyal fans still have a tendency to overlook how big a hurdle that really is to overcome. It's like trying to convince people that other toy car brands exist besides Hot Wheels or Matchbox. Not saying it's impossible but old consumer habits do die hard and we can't discount how much of an uphill battle this can be for DST, especially now that it appears they're trying to break into the Lego/Playmobil market with stuff like M.A.X., Pirates and Elite Heroes.
