  1. Right now, I really like Luigi (just because he's Luigi, not because he's good), Meta Knight, the Links, and Bowser. This will probably change as I play more.
  2. Hi milner, Welcome. Just to give you a heads up, this is a great place, but there is one drawback. Minimates are a terrible addiction, yet this site reinforces the addiction. I'm not sure how I feel about that sometimes. . .
  3. Anyway, let me divert from the apparently requisite piggy bashing to say that I'm not very keen on those figures. I like some mini-figures, but not ones with no articulation whatsoever. Plus, they cost more than Minimates do at my local comic shop (do you get from 1-3 per pack, depending on size, or one per package? Not that it matters to me). I will definitely pass on those. But why are Adult Swim figures being released now, anyway? Hasn't that ship sailed? I think a line of Venture Brothers 4-6 inch figures would sell quite nicely, given its popularity in the geek community, but these stupid looking figures representing some of the crappier Adult Swim shows and has-beens like Aqua Teen? Maybe these types of toys would have sold in 2001. On second thought, maybe I will pick these up when they are clearanced for 99 cents each. . .
  4. I'm not seeing a pic there, 616. Is it just my computer? Anyway, here are some pics from hisstank and slashfilm: Duke: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/attachment.p...mp;d=1203704294 (note: I love how the pretty boy Duke they found is looking at himself in the mirror in the first available pic of him --I saw him in some movie on cable the other day, dancing like mad! In the movie I saw him in, he was a really impressive dancer, sort of like a gymnast. Not so much the good actor there, though.) Baroness (pre-black hair): http://www.hisstank.com/forum/attachment.p...mp;d=1203639764 Hawk (probably the one you are referring to): http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/14/first-...hawk-in-gi-joe/
  5. Hey guys, if any of you want to play Smash Bros. sometime, my friend code is: 2406-4822-1886 I just beat the Subspace mission today, so now I'm all about the online multiplayer. I look forward to destroying some of you on the battlefield (edit: or not, I just played some tonight, and man, do I suck!)
  6. Unless I'm mistaken, the stickers just boost players' attributes in the single player mode. So, if you get a "fist attack +5," then that character's fist power will go up. It's similar to what you might see in a role playing game. My guess is that, as you progress through the single player mode, it gets much more difficult if you don't up your players' stats (again, like an RPG).
  7. It is a trailer teaser (no, not a teaser trailer ): Having watched the TV show as a kid, I think the glowing, green eyes are awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxUGy2j-DtU....com/node/35939
  8. Gamefaqs.com often has cheat codes and guides on how to unlock things easily. As to why there is so much of this, I think it is actually part of the draw for a lot of gamers, whether they consciously know it or not. People play games, in the most basic sense, because they are fun, right? But people also like having goals and challenges coinciding with the gameplay. Beating the game is a challenge, then beating the game for the best possible ending, or beating it on a harder level, or beating it with another character are other challenges, and these things keep people coming back, and give a game replay value. Having tasks to achieve in order to unlock extra characters, outfits, game modes, mini-games, etc. are other goals that keep people playing when they might otherwise stop.
  9. Neolego has pretty much summed up my argument for why I really do dig Nintendo, so I won't regurgitate all that he said, but let me add my own 2 cents. I understand TBT's argument. Nintendo's systems have, since the N64, been relatively shallow in terms of game availability, and their best games are, typically, first party games that are updates of existing series. However, Nintendo simply knows how to produce games that are fun. Perhaps some of the most derivative games over the last few years were New Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart, the Castlevania games, and Contra 4 for the DS. However, I have enjoyed those games more than the games that I have played for the 360. I like having the 360, the DS, and the Wii, because I can get the GTA and Bioshock along with the Mario and Zelda. In the final analysis, though, in terms of net "joy," no system has matched what I have received from the Nintendo systems over the years. And that's why, if I had to choose a Nintendo system or another brand's system in the future, I will go with Nintendo.
  10. Principal shooting is over, so you might think that they have enough to pull a trailer from (just look at the photos out there). The issue is, how much of the polished movie they can show, since there is likely a great deal of CG work to finish up. I think getting a brief teaser ready for Dark Knight is almost necessary, given the crowd that they are going to try and market this thing to. . .on a related note, I sure hope this one makes money so that we can get some darker comic-fare (C'mon Preacher!), but I fear that it will fly right over a lot of people's heads.
  11. That has been the case with Nintendo going back, at least, to the N64 (though I think the NES and SNES were superior to the Sega Master System and Genesis, too, based on game selection alone), and because of that, barring a while when I just had a 360 and played my room-mate's Wii, I have always stuck with Nintendo over Sony, Microsoft, etc. You may not get as many games, the games may not be as fancy, but you always, always get a few extremely high quality, often console-exclusive games (and not always first party, though the Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games are always high points). Nintendo just knows how to make extremely fun games, period, and they have had a lot of luck with great third party games being released on their consoles.
  12. I've been playing the Smash Bros. story mode today, and it's great fun. I still haven't gotten to Snake yet
  13. Just got in from the Chimes (LSU's major college bar), and I must say, even drinking German and Belgian beer, I'm an American tonight! And proud of it! USA USA USA!!!
  14. To kind of reiterate TM2's point, I've wondered why we didn't get baddies like those with the Spidey comic pack that came out last year, instead of newer, inferior versions of previously released bad guys and Spidey, and one bad guy, in Hydroman, that I can't imagine many people were clamoring for. But then, those Minimates were pretty lame, design-wise, so maybe its better that we have to wait to get Spidey's rogue's gallery (if they come at all, obviously). The minimate Elektro, Kraven, and Scorpion that I envision in my mind rock hard.
  15. Well, I just got my wave 19 and 20 figures a few days ago, so I'm a little behind, but I wanted to do an Angel custom from the first moment that I saw pics of the Archangel variant. So, I'm working on that. However, I'm going a slightly different route than others here. I didn't want to drill any holes in the Hawkman wings, and I didn't want to glue anything to Angel's back. Well, after pulling the small wing piece from the larger one, I noticed the small holes, and realized that the Hawkman wings fit into those pretty well. So, this is what I've done: Now, there are three drawbacks to this method: 1) his wings stick out further than they do with other methods (though I might be able to shave those down a bit. . .); 2) related to #1, he is very back-heavy now, so he has to lean against something, or has to be stuck to the ground somehow; and 3) you have to cut Archangel's wings to do this. However, again, no drilling, no gluing (though I did have to use some finger nail polish on the joints to keep Aquaman's head and one of the wings from being loose). Next up, painting the wings and obtaining an extra Booster gold helmet so that I can follow cdubya's suggestion for doing the weird half-mask that Angel has (though I actually like the look in my pics a lot. . .). I'm also realizing that we now have figures for all the original X-Men, in a manner of speaking:
  16. I went to Wal-Mart tonight, and the Smash Brothers games were on display in a glass case! I asked the woman at the counter if I could buy one, and she said, "if they're on display, then we can sell them." Of course, she then tried to ring it up, and the system wouldn't let her. The game was basically in my hands, only to be snatched away by a cruel computer. It's so wrong to tease us this way.
  17. I've seen some great customs on this site, but Boyd's have to be right up there at the top. I was just recently thinking of how awesome my SDCC Punisher was (I realize that this is something the average Joe would probably never sit and think about, but this behavior must not be so unusual here), and now, it looks so disappointing in relation to Boyd's custom. Damn. . .I'm just going to try and forget that I ever saw it. . .
  18. Yeah, Dark Victory is the sequel to Long Halloween, and while not as good as "Halloween," it's very good. The main drawback is that it tries to bring in Batman's rogue gallery, and that seems forced at times.
  19. To provide a counterpoint, I like Loeb and Sale's Batman work on the Long Halloween and Dark Victory a lot (as well as their Superman for All Seasons). However, I wouldn't say that it's the best comic story ever. I personally don't think it can touch Year One (which Halloween is the spiritual sequel to), Dark Knight Returns, or Killing Joke, as far as Batman stories go. Just don't want someone to get their hopes up too high, only to be disappointed. Its definitely good reading, though.
  20. The prices have gone up to 20 bucks since last night. . .those BBTS guys sure are quick to account for demand by raising prices on stuff. Also, why the Skywarp coronation get-up? Is there a reference to this in the comics or something? If not, then what is the point, and who would buy it?
  21. I picked up a 1:18 scale Hot Wheels motorcycle from Wal-Mart tonight for about 4 bucks, and this is the result: This helps to give the Dreadnoks a little more character, I think. I got the idea from a guy at hisstank, and now that I know this brand and scale works so well, I'm going to pick up 2 or 3 more (for the other 'Noks, and possibly one for Zartan).
  22. Damn. I wonder if they read my post from the previous page. . .well, I pre-ordered it, anyway.
  23. The Comedian, the Night Owl, Ozymandias, the Silk Spectre!
