  1. I just don't see AA being able to solicit a Horta. Then again, they've done tribbles. Maybe I'm mistaken. DST/AA, prove me wrong.
  2. Can't argue with that. I don't see why they didn't simply use the existing (and pre-approved) art and just reduce it to fit the new scale. And I'm a little concerned that this is nothing but TOS. I know we're celebrating the 40th but there's been all sorts of demand for other characters that wouldn't saturate the market so much. I really think they should have gone with a TOS 2-pack, a DS9 2-pack, and an ENT 2-pack. Oh, and screw the chase figures. I friggin' hate those. Still. (Although having an extra Scotty body makes for a perfect redshirt custom opportunity. In which case ALL chase figures should come with potential army builders.) Hey Ady. I know this isn't a solicitation, but is this announcement enough to warrant a dedicated Trek forum?
  3. Thanks, Cappy. Adorable. I think I'm gonna get one anyway. (I just want to PINCH that Flash!)
  4. Here's the Batman set and here's the Superman set. Awful, awful figures.
  5. I don't see Batman or Superman sitting at a table anyway. Batman would stand in the darkest corner he could find with his back to the wall while Superman would hover over the table like a Crayola piñata. Nice pic. You should put a pole in the table. Just a thought.
  6. Just wondering if anyone picked up DC Direct's Martian Manhunter Pocket Superhero figure that came with the JLA table and chairs. Do the table and chairs work well enough with 2-inch Minimates? If anybody's got pics, I'd appreciate it.
  7. I honestly don't know how you'd be able to get away with that. One inherent aspect of every toy board I've been to is The Wish List, and such lists don't just pop up out of thin air, they're based on favorite characters or stories. A forum that only allows discussion of existing product but not the property would be pretty damned dull. What makes a forum civil is the membership. Stereotypical Trekkies are pretty opinionated, which is fine. What isn't fine is the intolerance I've found on many a Trek board, which is tragically ironic considering Trek's Vulcan philosophy of infinite diversity. I guess Spock never preached tolerance. That said, I think we've got a pretty good-natured cast of characters here. It was pretty rare that we had ANY problems with those Minimate collectors back on the AA board, certainly not as often as we did with the self-professed Trekkies. But with a Trek forum comes more traffic, and it's bound to attract at least one obnoxious zealot. But that's why we have moderators.
  8. In a really bad QC kinda way, sure. Seriously, in one of the olde Q&A's I asked when DST would be doing Marvel zombies and they said it was a distinct possibility. They just seemed to want to wait 'til it was over first.
  9. The biggest problem I'll have with Trek Minimates will be the inevitable chase figures. I friggin' HATE those things only because most of the time I really want to add them to my collection. And NOT because they're chase figures but because they're really cool variants. I'd hate to think that a character like Locutus would end up being a rare chase figure, but then again look at Black Spidey.
  10. If we add a Trek forum, brace yourself for an influx of jackasses.
  11. About friggin' time. For a while I thought they'd wait for the 50th anniversary to come and go. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that these will be from ANY era. They need to grab Trekkies of all denominations right from the start, not make fans wait because their favorite Trek isn't good enough.
  12. In my experience, DST has been hit or miss on the tough questions. QC problems aren't always the fault of the manufacturer but it IS their responsibility. If they don't want their consumers to know their business, it's their prerogative not to answer. But I've seen some perfectly legitimate questions get snarky replies depending on the phase of the moon or whatever. On the other hand I've also seen some bitter and lengthy attack go unanswered simply because they didn't feel the Q&A was the appropriate forum to do so. As far as questions about breakage are concerned, it seems to me that's something ANY manufacturer would want to hear about. For example, my company recently had a 90,000 unit product recall because our overseas vendor switched plastics without telling us. The new plastic was more fragile and, when retested, resulted in choking hazards which caused huge problems with retailers AND our licensor (yeah, it was licensed product). All that said, this is Ady's house and he makes the rules. Any of us who feel this isn't the place for us to be can go elsewhere or – better yet – do what he did and create a place for other like-minded collectors. Just don't plan on getting DST or AA's seal of approval if all you ever do is sling shit their way.
  13. As someone who ran dozens of Q&A's with DST for over a year, I have to say I'm baffled by any perception that any of the questions in that thread were out of line or somehow disrespectful. This isn't just because I've seen worse over at the AA board, it's because I've re-read the thread in question three times already and, unless it's been edited, I'm just not seeing it. Maybe I'm thicker skinned or just dense but if someone could point out which questions were out of line, I'd appreciate it. (Learn by example, you know.)
  14. Damn. I'm still on season 2. Just got 3 and 4 for Christmas. Got some cramming to do. And yeah, I'll be buying these, too.
  15. I don't see the point in making them visible on the board. Being able to view it in one's profile has always been my preference. Less clutter.
  16. Hey, my post count has disappeared. Am I neither big nor clever anymore? This isn't one of those "substance over style" places, is it? And can I still say the Fuck word?
  17. I'm all for DC Moviemates, but I want some TV goodness, too. Anyone who gets me some vintage 1966 Batman 'mates gets a reach-around. I don't think this will keep DCD from offering block figures if they want. They've offered movie product to the specialty market before without infringing on Mattel. LEGO has the license for construction sets. The minifigs – as with C3 – are accessories. There's enough of a distinction for me.
  18. Gonne need a Black Canary Minimate for that cake topper.
  19. Correction: The outer case was 113 out of 465. The displayer bottom reads 111 out of 450. And yeah, these were solicited as limited to 500 cases. Someone somewhere is skimming off the top. Maybe they'll show up during convention season. Maybe they'll be given away to Radicals. Maybe both.
  20. They should resolicit them in plastic next time. I'm sure AA could source an overseas manufaturer if DST couldn't find one themselves. That should bring the price down in shipping alone.
  21. I thought they had been resolicited at a lower price as well. Especially since the diorama makes an acceptable stand-in for Cylon-occupied Caprica.
  22. I am now the happy owner of a dozen classic Cylon Minimates. These look really cute in a Sanrio Hello Kitty kinda way. Hopefully my LCS will pull through and get the modern ones in for me as well. I noticed the case number for my Cylons was pretty low, something like 117 out of 465. I've no doubt more folks ordered the modern guys than classic, not that they're being sold in numeric order. (Or are they?)
  23. No offense but some of those choices are the LAST figures I'd want brought to life at any time of day. I don't need to wake up to a Wolverine Minimate poking his claws into my eye demanding to know where the hell he is and what's going on. And he's a GOOD guy. I think I'd take Mary Jane, Black Cat, and Gwen Stacey instead. I know I could handle at least two out of those three, and Gwen would just be happy to be alive again. (Elektra would be fun if she didn't scare the piss out of me.)
