  1. Way back when (not THAT way back for some of us), Marvel did more than just the superhero comics. They also did titles based on literature or toy lines. Are these properties that Marvel can do anything with, or do licenses revert back after the comics end? The books I remember fondly (and would LOVE to see these in minimate form) are: John Carter of Mars Conan ROM Micronauts and even Crystar, the Crystal Warrior and though it's not Marvel, I read these first back then... Elfquest Don't get me wrong, I really like the Marvel stuff that has come out, but with DC done, BSG done, Terminator over-done, and Ghostbusters winding down, it would be nice to know there's something... different on the horizon.
  2. Mine arrived from BBTS today, and I am well please with what I've seen so far. The flame/fur arm extensions are interesting, and may work well if they ever try to do a Feral 'mate (t'would look great packed with Shatterstar). I really like the Sentinel without all the armor, but as I look at it with the armor... is the head piece close enough that it could work for a doombot army builder?
  3. Yeah, I ordered 2 sets of each wave yesterday, and am glad I got the shipping confirmation today. It's getting expensive maintaining so many standing armies. TRU needs to go back to including an army builder in EVERY wave.
  4. Thans SO much for the pictures! Of course, now I have to seriously consider how many extra sets to order. Is anyone selling single 2-packs yet (besides Luke's)? On another thread, someone had pics of the sewer display stand... now how cool would it be to get that display, battle damaged Wolverine, and 4 or 5 Hellfire Club goons?
  5. Funny, my wife asked me last night when I'm going to stop buying minimates... guess today is not that day! Thanks for the heads-up, I placed my order in a matter of minutes.
  6. Personally, I like the one that comes with the Mega Bloks set because it has the little peg on the bootom that you can attach to the clear rod it comes with. Still, will likely check out 5-Below for this, so can see the difference for myself. Great find!
  7. it's a fun show to watch, and the toys nice, but for me it was the total shock and surprise that they existed! Not even my kids knew these things were coming out... It's always great to be surprised by what you find on the pegs.
  8. I found these at a local TRU, as well (finally!) Between these, Marvel Wave 6, and the Phineas & Ferb figures, I left almost $100 lighter in the pocket.
  9. I saw the 4-pack, but I got 2 of the 2-packs. Would have gotten 3, but they didn't have the one with Candace. Oh, and I got the minimates, but I the Phineas and Ferb sets actually caught me off guard and were an awesome surprise! I didn't see any 2 packs. It's possible I could have overlooked them. If there is one with Candace it's not even on eBay. At my store, the 2-packs were hanging below the 4-packs. The 2-packs were: Dr. D and Perry (with a cannon or some such), P&F on a big skateboard (with helmets), P&F in beach attire on a surfboard, and the back of the card showed Candace and Phineas with a guitar. And so my post is not COMPLETELY off topic, the case ration is once again confirmed, and the BD Wolvie/Cap pack is a pass (but may a "sleeper" if it doesn't get released elsewhere.
  10. I saw the 4-pack, but I got 2 of the 2-packs. Would have gotten 3, but they didn't have the one with Candace. Oh, and I got the minimates, but I the Phineas and Ferb sets actually caught me off guard and were an awesome surprise!
  11. yeah, amazing how supply and demand works. Of course, if it weren't for the box sets, no one would care at all for these two. Folks would likely be just fine with the Champions and the blue/white version. What's the big deal, anyway? Being able to complete a team roster has always been the exception, not the rule. If you got more than 4 on the team, good luck.
  12. Agreed! I've even taken to having a box of extras for unsupervised play. X-Factor Angel doesn't join the rest of the team unless Daddy is playing, too.
  13. True, but if it's just going to be another 2"-er, why not make it one of the set? On the other side, though, I guess it would have to depend on the popularity or uniqueness of the character... If that were the only way to get Kang, a lot of folks would be making sure they got every piece. Likewise, classic Mimic would be a good candidate for this program. BAF battle damaged Wolverine? Maybe not.
  14. I think if wave 4 had been wave 3, and wave 5 had been wave 4, they might have continued. Wave 3 was just all around bad (buy the set, and get TWO Sareks? How can I LOSE?), and you can still get a set from some sites for $10. I liked the TOS mix in wave 4 and 5 (except for the Kirk in wave 5). I would have even been okay with subsequent waves including TOS as long as it was one pack per wave and paired an alien with a character from the TOS movies. The next couple of waves could have been TNG heavy, crossing over to DS9 with O'Brien and a new Worf (becasue the regualr version would have already been released). Get into DS( and then tie it back to TOS with a Trials and Tribblations set... Oh, what could have been....
  15. I've been buying up any series 1 Scotty's I can find cheap, just in case they don't release any more red shirts. I have a mental image of the shuttle with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and a red-shirt Spidey heading down to a strange, alien world... The series 4 Picard and series 5 Sisko's are also very quick-custom friendly.
  16. Well, it appears that the SWAT van combines with the helicopter... So I can picture losing the rotors, a fresh coat of paint, and you've got a drop-ship with an APC from which some mini colonial marines can pop out and blast some aliens.
  17. That sucks. I still think there needs to be an army builder in EVERY tru wave, even older army builders. I can always go for more skrulls, Hydra, multiple men, etc. Make a 4-per case pack of Skrull/Kree or AIM/Hydra, and I'll gladly take 2 cases worth off their hands. please, oh please... let me give you all my money... all I ask is a little plastic in return...
  18. I think this is the one reveal at Toy Fair that I am MOST excited about, mostly because of the hope of more to come. Yes, Spock has been done to death, but when you buy 2 shuttles, swap a Bones head so you can have your BD big three. Then buy a third for a BD science officer that didn't make it back to the ship (it's not always about the red shirts, you know). For future offerings, they could follow the current planned pattern of regular version/BD version. Some of these were already mentioned: TNG shuttle: Data/Worf Runabout: Kira/Dax Mini-Bird of Prey: Gowron/Riker (from when he commanded one) The voyager thing that Paris built (can't remember the name): B'ellana/7of9 The little Romulan 2-seater from Nemesis: Data/Reman All kinds of good possibilities...
  19. Curse my old eyes, but it APPEARS to be a repaint of Cyborg's sonic blaster...
  20. Can I be the first to cop out? I think Super Hero Squad is good for the little, little kids, but minimates are good for 7 and up. They may not know all the characters without parental guidance, but how many kids are saying "oooh, a Super Hero Squad Deathlok... wait, is that the Luther Manning or the Harlan Ryker version?" Minimates are good way to introduce comic characters to kids that are old enough to be beyond the "kiddie toys". Using the blanket term "minimates" covers such a broad range of licenses now... some are kid oriented, some are adult oriented. Depends on the license and the maturity (or immaturity) level of the person.
  21. Is this the same as the earlier series arc-angle?
  22. No to (intentionally) necro this thread, but figured I'd let folks know. BBTS is sold out, CSC has 4 sets left. AFX was sold out previously, as was Stuckakid. SciFi genre sells the SA Angel set separately, but there may be some sticker-shock. Hope this info helps somebody.
  23. Okay, with my second cup of coffee in me... I agree with BHM that army builders are not the best thing to happen in 2009. Maybe it will different in 2010? Army Builders are a great idea for filling out the variant pack in a regular set. For collectors, who really needed the duplicates we were getting when you got the whole set. 2 Lokis? No thanks. Two AIM agents? Two Hydra? Yes, please. Unfortunately, the problem is getting more than 2 without getting back to the original issue of getting multiples of figures you don't want. Would I like to have 6 AIM and 6 Hydra agents? Sure. Do I want to pay full price so I can have either extra Iron Mans or Extra Bucky-Caps to get the AIM agents? Didn't want to, but I did. Now, how do I get the Hydra army? I have to buy multiple X-Force Wolverines. No TRU option. I don't mean to turn this into a rant... simple solution, have TRU offer in its waves a 2-pack of army builders. An AIM/Hydra pack, or a Kree/Skrull pack. I think fans would really like this, and I don't think they'll warm the pegs as much as some of the other TRU sets. Make the armies more available to those who want to build armies, and maybe it could be a bigger deal in 2010.
  24. Exclusives I see a couple of categories imbedded in this category. (1) Blanks & Promos - such as FCBD white blanks, SDCC GM black blank, or even the AFX keychains of last year. Unless you HAVE to have a perfectly complete, every variation under the sun collection, there are take 'em or leave 'em. Nice to have if you can get them, but a Marvel or DC 'mates display isn't going to look 'off' because these guys aren't there. (2) Vendor and Store Exclusive - At this point, it's AFX and TRU that drives this. I think it's great that they're willing to put themselves on the line to bring new exclusives, at the risk of overproducing and being stuck with inventory that you can't give away (yeah, thanks for the offer the free Hostile Takeover set, but no, no thanks). Anyone and everyone who wants an AFX exclusive can get one, plus shipping costs (which seem high to me, but it's not like they don't tell me the total and I have the choice to order or not). Though with some of the gas I've burned hunting for the TRU exclusives, it's not too bad after all. TRU exclusives. Just the existence of these drives the excitement of collecting again. I can order online all day long, but it is not nearly as exciting as walking into a store not knowing what to expect and finding a new series on the pegs. Plus, we've gotten characters that may have never been released otherwise. Yes, 1-per case sucks (but that appears to have been corrected). Yes, scalpers may key into this and scoop them up... 2 recent auctions for this pack closed at around $60 (but that is not a problem new to collecting anything). This sucks especially in the X-Factor Angel case, where many can't complete the team from the box set they ordered from AFX. Now that TRU wave 5 has come, and wave six is likely on the way, what are the chances of new wave 4 cases being discovered. So if no one can get X-Factor Angel, why would that same person want to buy the 4-pack from AFX? SO it's not just the fans that lose, but a vendor that has shown dedication to offering exclusives also has the potential to lose. Conversely, though, if it wasn't for the TRU Ghostbuster mates, I believe this line would have fizzled quickly with just 2 4-packs spread out over several months. Sure the packs would have sold, but it was the TRU packs that really brought life to the line. Plus, these have even been available on the website, so opportunities have been there to get them. Have they also been scalped? I believe so, after the first wave got cleared out. But again, with any shortage, whether perceived or actual, has the potential to cause some people to take advantage of the opportunity. Gonna get a second cup of coffee and think about the other questions....
