  1. True but at least there is now something definite to look forward to in the comic line. And even speaking as a non-xmen fan I have to say this is a great looking set! Interestingly I've just noticed that the release details describe it as being on a "full colour blister card", I wonder if that means a change to the recent comics box set format?
  2. Oh ok, thanks, I stand corrected. I looked the cover up and it would make a pretty cool helmet if that is the figure in question. And yes, he would make a great match-up with the recent enchantress for sure!
  3. Plus some time back Zach said the villains hadn't been made in the movie line either, so that excludes iron monger (as well as loki and malekith).
  4. Yeah this is getting pretty confusing! I'm really hoping the classic villain is the thor one and skurge seems a great bet but doesn't he wear some armour? I've never seen him wear a helmet though. And I have absolutely no idea of anyone who's cosmic, armoured and modern right now either. The only two things I am now certain of are that swordsman and first appearance wonder man definitely don't fit the descriptions (sadly!) and another whole month seems a long time to wait for the reveal - I don't think there has ever been such a big gap between marvel waves/reveals before. At this rate I can see this wave (let alone 75) slipping back to 2018. Good news if the box set reveal is close though.
  5. Wow, I can't believe that I can seriously call myself an avengers fan and forget to include hawkeye in the list of members who were villains! Thanks for putting me straight!
  6. I would really like a first appearance wonder man and although I think he's very unlikely I guess that if it does turn out that skurge is the asgardian villain it would be in keeping with a masters of evil theme. Plus he has been a villain and, assuming that the guess about rogue is right for the xman/avenger the 4 candidates that jump to my mind as the other "avenger who has been a villain" are swordsman, quicksilver, scarlet witch and him. Of those he's maybe the most likely? However, I'm not reading much current stuff and there are probably a host of modern "avengers" from various backgrounds who have been villains! Btw, I don't know if we are still on for a mid-June reveal but if so that would make it pretty imminent...?
  7. I would love a classic swordsman and he would fit the avenger who's also a villain theme. However, I'm pretty sure that from the clues Zach gave in the early part of this thread (before the great "bendis debate" took it over for a while) that that seemed very unlikely. Unless the line-up has changed at all that is as I'm also pretty sure he said it was a mixed bag but it now seems to have an avengers theme?
  8. Interesting clues, as ever very hard to work out. I don't know how much you want to say Zach but do you count characters as "new" if they have been made as movie ones? Also would you count actual asgardians as "cosmic"? Thanks.
  9. I think the weirdest thing is that after the 17th of this month we will have no new announced marvel waves, comic or otherwise, apart from walgreens wave 5. Don't know when the last time that happened was but I feel a drought coming on. Let's hope something is announced soon!
  10. I agree that the under siege and wca vs wrecking crew waves would be great and better than the kooky quartet (did I really call them the "quirky" quartet yesterday!?) but I was just trying to throw in some examples of possible full avengers teams that could anchor waves against villains from their era, and bearing in mind that we got enchantress in wave 69 and we have zemo, it would have been quite easy to round out the original masters with executioner, melter and first appearance wonderman. Plus the quartet wanda and quicksilver would be nice. Speaking of wonderman I agree that if we got the wca an ionic version of him would be great.
  11. Yeah I hear what you are saying BD. It is easier to pick out precise Xmen teams with certain uniforms. However, there are several distinguishable avengers teams, eg they could do cap's quirky quartet vs the original masters of evil or they could focus more on storylines like the invasion of the mansion. But yes, to get lots of new characters it does need to be a bit more of a hodgepodge, and most of wave 69 did a pretty good job of that. However, it seems that is not the best formula to drive sales.
  12. Sorry if some of the comments seem like nitpicking Zach, I don't think that is the intention at all. As I said I love this wave but the issue seems to be that it didn't sell so well so I think what those of us who are big fans of stuff like this are doing here is looking for reasons that that may be, other than a simplistic "xmen sell better than avengers" answer, in the hope that IF you try a classic avengers wave again it could do better next time. I also see what you are saying here BD, and in many ways avengers "hero v villain" waves may work better based on a single hero, eg thor with the warriors 3 vs thor villains, but there are still a fair few "B" list unmade avengers from the '70's/'80's etc compared to the xmen, at least in my opinion. (Cue a batch of posts from xmen fans listing the 3000 unmade xmen lol). And certainly the West Coast Avengers do stand out, as you say.
  13. Yes I agree with the last couple of posts. Speaking as an old school avengers fan I loved the concept of this wave as it felt like years since a wave had been aimed at people like me. However, while I consider the black knight and falcon packs to be great, even I found two blizzards to be pretty obscure. The frustrating thing is that the recent xmen waves have been themed around teams (both heroes and villains) and while I "get" that xmen apparently sell better for some reason, I feel that a fairer comparison would have been if this wave had also contained two complete teams, for example an avengers team from a certain era vs the masters of evil or the wrecking crew. At least then DST could have compared like with like. As it is I fear now that we won't see the like of this wave again for ages, if ever.
  14. I can see both sides of the debate here as personally with VERY few exceptions I don't see having a movie version of a character as any kind of substitute for a comic version. However, I do think the animated versions fit in well with the comic stuff in most cases and actually find that those waves contain more that interests me as a "classic" fan than much else since the demise of box sets and the rise of movie waves. To me though the key point here is that I don't think the fact that a character is released in a walgreens wave means that there is any greater or lesser chance of seeing a comic version - I simply don't think we would have a squadron supreme, man-thing, etc otherwise, so to me the line is a great addition.
  15. I really liked his original run on Alias and his Dark Avengers Back on topic I finally got this wave today (thanks to international shipping and Christmas post!) and I have to say, as expected, it's my favourite wave in years!
  16. I would also appreciate being put on the silk list please, though I live in the uk.
  17. I would love to see that team made, they are high on my want list - let's hope DST decide to make them in the "window" between gotg movies when the restrictions don't apply.
  18. Well said yb! Oh and I rarely get comic mates these days either trekker, but I think we may have different reasons for that!
  19. If no movie waves being possible means comic tie-ins instead am I the only one who would suddenly like the same to apply to the avengers, thor gotg franchises etc?
  20. I've never really been a great zombie fan (I read the first one because a friend told me it was great(!) and wasn't very impressed tbh. However, the situation regarding the inability to include heroes in any form in these box sets simply says to me that maybe we need some variety in the comic box set line like we used to get rather than just these zombie ones?
  21. Indeed! Xmen vs modern/zombie ultron it is then!
  22. I figure any character is fair game as DST has the absolute prerogative to make what they want. However, there are plenty of characters that we don't have at all and thus have zero opportunity to own, so I'd much rather see new characters in lcs waves (the only place Zach has said we are likely to get them) than ones we already have, irrespective of whether they were made 5 years ago or even 11 years ago - at least they are out there and can be tracked down, albeit sometimes for a price.
  23. Nice to finally see these. It's a wave of 2 halves for me - the dazzler/howard and thor/captain marvel packs are excellent, the rest not so much, especially OML/maestro since for me they add nothing I want. However, these days a wave that's half full of excellent comic characters is great news and they look really well executed as ever!!
  24. That stegron sure would be excellent in any wave packed with anybody!! Tbh I see him as being packed with spidey as the likeliest option, which I see as about a one in a million chance right now with the current character/wave selection policy!
