  1. Well, looking at the pic I notice the same inner arm grooves we've seen on the other Sandman moviemate so maybe these are in fact accessory arms which can slide over the regular arms?
  2. I'm wondering when the DST ones are going to ship? My order is still showing pre-order status with an estimated availability date of 3/26/07.
  3. I'd collected Marvel Legends from Toybiz for several years prior to getting into minimates. I had a fairly complete collection, and was cautiously optimistic when it was announced that Hasbro was taking over the line. I mean when the DC animated figures switched from Hasbro to Mattel, Mattel managed to keep the scale and design close enough that the figures flowed well from one company to another. But when the first wave of Marvel Legends came out from Hasbro I didn't even bother buying one. I'd seen all I needed to see and decided to sell of my ML collection. I would rather not have them, then accept sub-par figures into my collection. So, sorry Hasbro, you've lost me as a customer. And now based upon the Spidey figures, it looks like I made the right choice. Oh and one more rant while I'm at it: Why is Mattel now making the new DC animated characters so hard to find? Before case packs were fairly well balanced with old and new characters. But now all the 2007 case pack assortments are so heavily weighted down with "Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman" three packs that there is only enough room for 1 per case of the new character 3 packs. And on top of that several assortments are being released concurrent to one another which means shy of ordering several case packs online, my chances are slim to none of finding the figures I want. Thanks for driving yet another multiyear collection of mine down the tubes.
  4. Well, I've got my beating stick ready. Now where's that dead horse? Yeah, I'm going to echo the crowd sentiment, and say "nay" to chase figures. While I too would love to see alter-ego versions of the heroes (Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, etc) I would really like to stay away from the one per case method. Originally when I got in to this collection (those long eight months ago) I was able to pick up a great many of the figures I needed fairly inexpensively on Ebay and via trades with board members. However, as the addiction has spread to others, and our numbers increased, there is much more competition online. I've resigned myself to ordering "variant sets" from stores like Stuckakid. While I don't begrudge the slightly higher price, I do worry about the total cost since we've seen such an increase in production levels. I mean with year alone I'm spending almost as much as I spent on my collection thus far. I shudder to think how much more money I could afford to spend before I have to start making tough choices as to which ones I really want to own. Anyway, there are my two cents.
  5. Okay, I may be wrong (I often am) but looking at the roster list and the pics, I believe they are in fact all there. I count 14 figures in all which leads me to believe that what was announced as "battle damaged Spider-man" is the one in the front of the wave 17 group (the dark costume with the human head). If you count, there are eight figures pictured in the wave 17 group shot and only six in the wave 18. But as I said before, I could be wrong. Edited: I am not saying that I believe that is supposed to be Spidey, only that that figure may have replaced him in the roster.
  6. The bunker is indeed from the 3 3/4" SW figures. I used to collect that entire line a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away . . . Anyway, I was trying to find something to use as a backdrop for my BSG and it seemed to look okay. And thanks to everyone for the feedback.
  7. For some reason, my local Target already put up all (or most) of their Spider-man 3 merchandise, including figures, new Super Hero Squad packs, titanium, plush items, etc. I was really hoping the minis would hit at the same time, but thus far nothing.
  8. Updated again today with something a little different: a vehicle. I have several customs in the works, but none of them that I could finish without additional parts I'm waiting on right now. I was itching to work on something and stumbled across the Mega Bloks Thing Mini-vehicle set at my local Fred Meyers. Now I'd never given this thing a second looks because for the most part I dislike the Mega Bloks quality (excluding some of the newer sets) and also the scale is wrong. But they had it marked down from $6.99 to $1.99 and then they were also running a "buy two, get the third free" promotion on all Mega Bloks. So I picked up 3 sets for $3.98 and some change and decided to see if I could put something together. Using the pieces from those kits and also a few from my Lego collection, I put this thing together. I'm sure it's nowhere near comic accurate (haven't read FF for a while) but it looked like something Reed might piece together. The back portion is detachable and becomes a fighter escort vehicle. Not the greatest thing I've ever built, but I have fun and thought I'd share. As always, comments and suggests are appreciated.
  9. I'm so very very glad I went ahead and pre-ordered these through Stuckakid sight unseen. There has yet to be a single figure I don't really want for my collection. And I know this may be seen as blasphemy, but given how well these Marvel Movie mates are turning out, I really wouldn't mind seeing Fantastic Four 2 minimates before the end of the year!
  10. The more I see of your work, the more I want to see of your work! Very nice all around. I'm quickly becoming a big fan of your portfolio.
  11. Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest DC fan out there, but based upon what I've been "learning" about over the past couple of weeks here are my guesses: Wave 7 Oracle / Black Canary Mr. Freeze / Comm. Gordon GL Kyle Rayner / ION Modern Flash / Zoom
  12. Just saw the pics and have to say they look pretty good. Masked Spidey is a bit of a ? for me right now. It almost looks like the whole "mask and exposed chin" is removable, like a J. Jonah mask. I am more willing to believe it is something like that then an entirely new minimate head piece. I'm very curious to see how this plays out. So far, so good.
  13. As always, thanks for the kind words. The gun, as well as the hand portion from the "Hand of Doom," came from a Stikfas supervillian kit. The gauntlet portion came from a plastic bead I found, drilled out and painted.
  14. Just sent my "thank you" email off to DST customer service. I really like the idea of being able to get the con exclusives via their website. I understand that this might not always be an option, but it saves those of us who cannot attend from resorting to Ebay scalper prices (not that I'm saying all Ebay sellers are scalpers). Plus, with all the money I'm saving from not having to buy it second hand, I can buy more and more minimates.
  15. Got my order placed and confirmed. Those of you (international) members who have already contacted me, I have secured your packs as well. I also ordered two extras in case there are any other international members who are interested in one of these packs. Let me know via PM. Edited 3/17/07 - All my extra sets are now spoken for by other board members.
  16. My two cents worth: I'm stuck on stuckakid. I've ordered from other places in the past and had mixed results, but stuckakid is my new, one-stop shop for minimates. I highly recommend you check them out.
  17. My jaw dropped so fast when I saw the finished image. Truly awe inspiring. So many thoughts I wish to express, but so few words which will do your work justice. It's art!
  18. You just keep raising the bar higher and higher for the rest of us. Great work and well worth the wait.
  19. Updated today with my 2.5" Hellboy custom. I'm still working on his belt (not pictured), but he is more or less done at this point. Thoughts, comments and suggestions are appreciated.
  20. Yeah, I agree the girls of the series are more iconic and seem to have a greater following than the guys. I'm hoping to have the rest of the girls finished in the next month or so as soon I received some additional "new" parts.
  21. The hat is actulally a modified DCD Joker hat. I shaved down the brim with a razor blade, sanded down the top corners of the hat, then used some paperclay (my new favorite modeling material) to give it the rounded effect and fill out Chase's hair in the back. Sorry theres no easy solution for a ball cap yet.
  22. I've added my WIP shots of Chase and Victor from the Runaways. They're almost done but not quite there. I'm working on a pair of fistigons for Chase and a headset for Victor. Anything else that can make them better let me know. Thanks as always.
  23. And so begins the next generation of minimate collectors . . . Congrats to all involved!
  24. I was never offended, just wanted to make sure I didn't step on anyone's toes. I like conversations like this one as it can sometimes turn me on to new things I'm unfamiliar with (I learned about the Runaways from reading people thoughts about that one). And I'm not saying DC doesn't have some great characters, I'm just not a familiar as I'd like. In fact if anyone can recommend some good TPB from DC let me know. I have been a fan of the animated series for a long while, but after getting the DC encyclopedia, was a bit shocked. Characters like Brianiac were different in comic form than they were (origin wise) in the series. A lot of the other characters were featured as supporting members, but I really didn't know who they were. Anyway, I guess I wrap it up with to points: 1) I never really took anything in this topic too seriously; mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't offending anyone else's opinions. 2) Please recommend some good DC TPBs that don't require a bunch of background knowledge to enjoy. Thanks
  25. First of all I want to restate that what I am expressing is my personal experience and not in any way meant to be an official judgment of Marvel Vs DC. It's just what I have noticed in my own life. Now, I understand not every character in the DCD lineup is an all star (i.e. Ma Hunkel) but there were other more "mainstream" characters I really knew nothing about such as OMAC, Power Girl, Red Tornado, some of the GL Corps members, etc. I'm not saying my lack of information means that these are in any way inferior characters, I was just saying on a personal level DC never resonated with me the way Marvel has. And yes, there are many, many, many . . . Spidey and Wolverine mates out there. But in addition to those there were also many other "recognizable" faces in the line ups. Again I'm not trying to create a rift with anyone and not trying to state that one company is superior to another. There have been many fine points made in this topic and many more that could be made.
