I realize that most, if not all, of these pictures, articles and other information have been posted on other minimates sites. This was just done for my own curiosity and desire to archive what I have about minimates in those magazines. It's interesting to me to look at this stuff in the context of the dates the magazines came out and the other products being released at the time. I still have a chunk of mags to find and go through, but this was a good start.

For those that couldn't go to SDCC, my friend is there and was able to get some extra colored minimates from DST. I'll donate a set to the Multiverse admin and they can use them as a prize in an upcoming contest, or figure out some other way to distribute them.

Friday's color du jour is: ORANGE!

Does anyone else think Wolverine's torso looks kind of like a face? The stripes on his pecs look like snake eyes and his abs look like a nose and mouth. Maybe it's just me... This stuff looks great! It is a good time to be a fan, unless you're short of funds. Hopefully things will be released a few months apart and we can get some time to build up the war chest.

For more info on Jessica Jones / Jewel, you should check out the series she was in, "Alias." It's out in trades from Marvel. Good story and it all sort of leads into the New Avengers and the Secret Invasion. Now you know...

I'm not sure if anyone else has done anything like this or not, but I was bored today so I started a little project. I found a bunch of my old Toyfare magazines and Wizards and I started looking through them for old pictures of Minimates. It was fun so I decided to start scanning anything minimate related and they are in my photobucket album. Lots of cool old pictures from the beginning of the line, neat Art Asylum ads, funny Toyfare stuff and all kinds of other minimate related crap. It's a work in progress. That would be great. I'd be able to pay anyone to grab these + shipping costs, before the show. I just don't want to spend $25 to get the Iron Man set shipped from AFX and probably another $25 for the Invaders from another site. If I could find a site that had both available, I'd order from there to save shipping costs, but I've been unable to find one. I love that one too. I was lucky to get one printed on vinyl at Diamond when we got a tour of the DST offices. It's big too, 36 x 24 inches.

I totally agree. When the DC / C3 stuff was out in my local Target. they were on the sides of endcaps and at both ends of the action figure aisles. They didn't last long! That stuff flew off the shelf. I did manage to find some months later clearanced, but not in vast quantities like LOTR or Superman C3 at toys r us.

I have to agree with Marc (Alter Ego) about carrying or not carrying certain products. They are in business to make a profit, just as DCD is, and they have to carry what they think the customers will buy. It does suck that DCD chose to shut this down. I'm still not convinced that we'll never see and DC minimates again. I think the occasional box set or exclusive through DST is not out of the question. Wishful thinking, yes, but I think it's a strong possibility. I would love to go back to the days of seeing minimates at Target, toys r us and Walmart (the evil). I don't know why those stores stopped carrying them in the first place, but I'm guessing it's something to do with cost / sales / profit margins.

Some pics of Hobgoblin on the Super Hero Squad Hobgoblin glider. I just attached two single lego blocks to his feet and glued them to the glider in the position I wanted. The last two photos are of the DC Pocket Super Heroes JLA conference table deluxe set that comes with Martian Manhunter. This makes a great display piece for your JLA minimates. I love the Marvel Mighty Muggs!! They are 100% Recycled Awesome. I tried to resist, but I had to buy the Stormtrooper and then the Clone Commander. Then hey hit me with the Marvels? Resistance is futile... I told myself I'm going to focus on classic Silver / Bronze age characters, but the only two I haven't bought (yet) are Wolverine and Venom (which are amazing too!). I make mine with SW luke skywalker in stormtrooper disguise helmets. it fits on the minimate head perfectly. The scale may be a little off, but I think they look great. I use other Clones and troopers' accessories to make unique figures. You could try molding a small wad of Sculpey on the "neck" peg of the minimate and putting the lego helmet on that. I've done that to use biker scout heads. Let me know how it turns out. Love the white queen version though!

The DC line has been great but unfortunately, the things that we love about them are what is hurting the line at the end of the day. It has become too expensive for DCD to keep producing these things in the small quantity that they have to make them to sell only through direct market retailers, ie comic and toy specialty stores / websites. The great new sculpts, paint apps, accessories and (most expensively) the 2.5 inch figures in each assortment all add to the high cost of developing and producing the figures. DST has a formula that works with the Marvel license. They use existing molds and paint apps to keep production costs down, while still managing to produce new characters and exclusives as well. The fact that the DC line is $2 to $3 more expensive than Marvel two packs should tell us a lot. As far as always including Batman and Superman repaints or variations... they HAVE to do that to appeal to moms / dads and kids who also buy their stuff. I don't know what the answer is and I hope they find a way to continue the line. If it does, I wouldn't be surprised to see fewer accessories and no more 2.5" figures. Maybe they could do build-a-figure assortments with a piece of a larger figure included in each two-pack. That would be great! Fingers crossed for DC minimates...time will tell.

I'm sure this topic has been addressed before, but I thought I'd bring it up again and see what other movies you all thought would make good minimates. I was thinking Mars Attacks. I want Martian mates! In the Back to the Future genre... why not Sixteen Candles, Say Anything or the Breakfast Club? They're doing Desperately Seeking Susan for christ's sake... so who knows? I'd love to hear other suggestions. I attended the DST retailer summit a few years ago when they were developing Platoon, Rocky and DSS and we couldn't believe they were even considering doing those sets! As for TV shows I want Dwight and all the workers at Dunder Mifflin Scranton minimates too. What else do we want to see?

I miss the days of finding 'mates at Target and Walmart in the old, normal, rectangular boxes. Clearance 'mates for $1.24!! I hate the new packaging. Displaying them was so much easier, you could just stack them. When is Marvel going to get on the right track and do scaled figures like DC? The Hulk, Abomination, Apocalypse, etc. would be so much better if they were big!! Fave wave? Marvel Zombies!!!!!!!
