UK Collector
Hey guys Does anyone know of a good place on The Strip/close to The Strip where I can get Minimates and comic books? Also, I can only find one place advertised online that does the "Elvis sandwich" (peanut butter, bacon and banana). Can anyone recommend somewhere good to get one? And does anyone know of some cool places to visit/eat & drink at, that aren't as obvious as the major attractions? Any advice is much appreciated. youbastards
If you have the time, and the ability to get slightly (less than an hour) out of the main strip, go to Red Rock Canyon National Park. It's just outside Vegas and is the perfect complement to everything that Vegas isn't. Red Rock Canyon
Lobsterman
Does anyone know of a good place on The Strip/close to The Strip where I can get Minimates and comic books? Yes and no. There are two very good comic book stores within a short drive from the strip (depending on what hotel you're staying in). Alternate Reality is my favorite, with a good selection of manga and indie comics and a very knowledgeable owner who is fun to chat with. It's by the university, near Tropicana and Maryland (Tropicana intersects the south end of the strip, and Maryland is about two miles east of the strip). The other is Cosmic Comics; they have probably the largest selection of back issues and TPBs in the city, but the owner is a little weird, and they gouge on toys. It's further down Tropicana. No Minimates at either place, unfortunately. The three stores that still carry Minimates are quite a long drive from the strip, and in three different directions. However, there's a Toys R Us that carries Minimates not far from the two comic stores I mentioned, at Flamingo and Maryland (Flamingo is the next major street north from Tropicana). Also, I can only find one place advertised online that does the "Elvis sandwich" (peanut butter, bacon and banana). Can anyone recommend somewhere good to get one? Honestly, I've never heard of it... And does anyone know of some cool places to visit/eat & drink at, that aren't as obvious as the major attractions? There are lots of fun, non-casino-related attractions. Just to name a few: Pinball Museum – I recommend this to everyone visiting Vegas. It's basically what it sounds like; a giant collection of working vintage to modern pinball machines you can play. Probably the only place in town where $20 will last the entire afternoon. It's on Tropicana fairly near those two comic shops I mentioned. Springs Preserve – a bit more of a trek from the strip, but a nice, nature-focused diversion from the tourist areas. It's a combination of a natural history museum, outdoor desert garden (that's really not an oxymoron), and hiking trails. First Friday – if your trip happens to be next week, you might be able to catch First Friday. This is a street fair/art walk held in the downtown area on the first Friday of the month. There are several art galleries that have shows, lots of people milling around, and kind of a fun "locals" environment. And it's free. Again, depending on which casino you're staying at, this could be a bit of a drive, but it's a pretty quick bus trip if you don't have your own transport. Red Rock – If you like hiking and nature, there's a really spectacular state park about a 30 minute drive from town. It's an area with lots of red sandstone formations where you can hike, picnic or rock climb. It's still reasonably cool this time of year, so the heat shouldn't be too bad. As far as eating and drinking, there are tons of great restaurants on the strip. Lots off the strip, too, but they're in residential neighborhoods that might be a pain to get to. It really depends on what kind of food you like. Hope that helps!

UK Collector
as for the Elvis sandwich ask the concierge at your hotel. Didn't think of that. Thanks, although I'm certain they'll give me a blank look when I ask them. I know they sound disgusting but I just want to try one! Pinball Museum – I recommend this to everyone visiting Vegas. It's on Tropicana fairly near those two comic shops I mentioned. That sounds awesome!!! May get to check that out when I'm there, I certainly hope so. Hopefully get to at least one TRU as well! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. As for the nature reserve type stuff, we're only there for 5 days, and we're already hitting the Grand Canyon for one day, so all other national parks may have to wait until my next visit. entertheninja!
Living in and having grown up in Vegas I can say that Comic Oasis and Maximum Comics are top choices. One shop thats a bit farther from the strip is caleed Avatar Comics and Games and is very good as well. Head over to the Spring's Preserve as well. I actually loved Kenan & Kel when I was a kid. Unfortunately, like most things from my childhood, it'd probably be a load of pants if I watched it now. NorthRaider
Well, technically Good Burger started as a regular sketch on All That, not Kenan and Kel. Still, good times, good times
