Victim of Viral Marketing

Marketing horror movies seems to have focused its reach with viral marketing. I must say that I am a vicim of these marketing strategies, and find myself now waiting to watch Cloverfield and The Poughkeepsie Tapes because of them. I'm not sure if this type of advertising started with the Blair Witch project, but it's effective! To see all these "fake" websites and campaigns to advertize a film really interests me.

For those not familiar with the upcoming releases here's a brief summary of the 2 horror films, may contain spoilers...

Cloverfield:

Giant American monster terrorizes New York City. This film is made from the perspecive of live video from Newyorkers on the street peiced together by the military. The monster seems to have the abilities of Cthulhu, but it seems to also infest parasitic creatures into humans. Produced by the guy who did LOST. This is supposed to be good, and nothing like the recent terrible "Godzilla" remake where it was basically a giant iguana.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes:

Besides being a "how to terrorize women manual" for growing upcoming psychos, this is a fake documentary about an uncovering of 800+ tapes that a New York serial killer made during his insane career. This is loosely based on actual serial killings that occurred in New York, Poughkeepsie region, and around other famous killers who videotaped their horrific acts in progress.

Now that I think about it, this is also part of viral marketing, but I'm not getting paid for this, nor am I affliated with the films.

If anyone has a picture of the Cloverfield Monster please post. There's been some really great artist renditions but nothing concrete official or confirmed.

See these kick ass artist interpretations sent in for a contest

The closest I saw to the actual monster was this pic on ebay, but I can't confirm it's officially the monster:
