  1. I did some trial and error but basically cut the torso section from the template and pasted it using MS paint (yes, that MS paint).

I haven’t had a real issue with scraping and the pics have folded pretty will without obvious pealing, creasing or breaking.

I bought a bundle with 2 extra paper packs during the holidays. So I have a few extra packs and haven’t had to buy a new pack yet.

Oh that's a great idea. I'd love to hear more about it.

It’s pretty straightforward. I use the torso template with the side “wings,” paste a torso tampo into that space and the color the wings to match, I upload it into the app. It’s already close or at scale. Then I print it, cut it out, and peel off the back. There is no ink and the photos are pretty sharp. If the tampo is muddled, then so is the photo. I use photoshop or one of the equivalent to make the torso pic. It’s usually resized Lego art, making them less trapezoid and more square.

This is just a test with plain paper. But it worked great. I setup a custom page size in Inkscape and a custom page size in my printer and I can now print a half sheet of stickers at a time. Awesome!

I always do a test run on plain paper and cut out a couple to test the fit.

The printer actually asked me to replace the tray with STMT sized paper. I think that's exactly half of an 8.5 X 11.

A5 is very close as well.

Some quick back of napkin math says consumables for Padrino's printer are 4 to 8 X what mine cost. Being a photo printer, I bet the prints are sharper though.

the cost is definitely an issue but the prints are pretty sharp. I haven't found a consumer printer that prints quality photos in a while, at least not one that can also handle other jobs. most are office-based and the quality is iffy. I used to have a great printer that was also a great photo printer years ago but they stopped making ink for it. i guess the shift to social media has made at-home photo printing less of a priority.

  4. I actually purchased one of these a while back:

The torso template that Luke created (thanks, Luke!) can be set to print almost to scale on this little machine through the app.

The prints can be a bit shiny but they are a lot easier to trim with much less waste than a full page of photo paper, especially if you're making one at a time.

And, the paper it does use is adhesive.

I think the texture you're talking about is the layer lines.

Resin printers typically use a lower layer height than plastic squirters so the lines are less visible (better z resolution and accuracy). On top of that resin printers are typically more accurate in the X and Y dimensions so the border of each layer is closer to where you expect it to be.

Materials-wise, the resin tends to be much more brittle than plastic. Not good if you drop them. I'm printing parts in ABS and PLA plastics. I'm not much of a resin guy. I think they may have developed some now with more plastic-like properties.

With both types, layer height is a parameter of your print settings. I can choose to physically print more or less detail. I can print the plastic layers so low that you might not notice them anymore like a resin print but that print is going to take forever. But it still won't look as clean and sharp as a resin print.

One of the things that makes it a fun hobby for a nerd like me is that there are so many things you can tweak to affect performance and quality.

    Thanks!

He's still here too.  Same Dave that made me a Bishop face, I believe.

Wings would not be a good one for me. But I could probably make some harnesses to re-use factory wings.

This would be cool also! The new wing set has a < > design instead of a ball and joint design. I assume it makes them more stable but it limits interchangeability.

  7. I have a request that I admit I have no idea of the labor involved. Since we have these amazing wing sets from the new D&D line that do not fit any preexisting wing harness, I was wondering about the prospect of someone designing 3d printed versions that are already set on a harness to be used with other characters. I would love multiple set of Venger-like wings to make different characters with. Does anyone have recommendations for the time/cost of designing and printing something like this? Is there anyone out there doing anything like this?

The Lego Peter Porker seems an expensive investment for a 'head' so I did a little 'trawling' of the net . It didn't take more than a few minutes to find a link to a UK company that could supply me with a Lego-type Peter Porker figure @ £2.99 . I bought a few to get free shipping & they arrived in 2 days . In a nutshell the head fits perfectly onto a minimate body , that had already been established, of course .

Further trawling shows that the same company that produces these  (not the retailer who sold me mine) can supply a whole bloody wave (8) of Porker inspired Marvel figures , iron Man,Hulk ,Captain America et al . Priced @ $0.99 each per character (not per head) + shipping .

I also purchased the “imitation” Peter Porker figure. The real one cost way too much money

I think they're doing the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons toy line, from the 1980s. Again, not an expert, but it seems like the toy line came first, then the cartoon had completely different characters... except Warduke? This could be a good way to go...

BTW, I would buy the s**t out of these

Personally, I was a big big fan of Walgreens Marvel Minimates. The animated waves, that is; not necessarily the MCU assortments.

I felt as if it were the same effect as 'Ultimate Marvel Comics' in the early noughties. Giving fans an opportunity to start a new collection of Marvel Minimates from the beginning in a way which emphasized significant players in the history of Marvel Comics.

I can see the significant lack of X-characters detracting from that point, but hey, if sacrificing another couple of Wolverines for the sake of Squadron Supreme I'm alright with that.

felt the same way. the variety of characters in the Walgreens 'mates made the frustration of finding them sometimes totally worth it. the animated style still fits in well with the comics 'mates and the deep dive into obscure characters or new designs of current characters was great.

Netflix has been playing the publicity for this movie close to the vest, not wanting to reveal too much too early. Hopefully as the movie gets closer, they will ramp up promotion. So I'm not surprised people have not heard of it, sadly.

I'm pretty sure the strike interfered with the promotion of pretty much everything, given that their talent can't do any interviews of any kind.
