  1. Actually Gillbob your reply (esp.) is probably the most concise . Variants were probably a good marketing idea when they were introduced ,the era before many of us bought on-line. I could be wrong(it happened once :))but I would imagine ,now ,most of us here buy each wave including the variant as they are offered by the on-line retailer . I'll be controversial & ask 'if not why not?'.

My first concern is for 'Minimate Fans TNG' , if US LCS can't/won't stock chase sets we'll have a generation of short-changed collectors to add(subtract?) from those lost from Europe. My second concern is that we are being shepherded to on-line ,not a place known for it's democracy.Collecting is all about the chase ,that's fine if you can afford it,but I rue the day when only the well-heeled can collect......ask a Kubrick completist who's best hope of a set+chases is to buy 4-8 cases of 12 blind boxes.

  2. Always been a Marvel-man but I thought the DC Series 'as an entirity' was superb. There are individually better 'mates in different genres but so far out of the 56 ,yes, 56 characters(soon to be 64) there aren't many sad items. I repeat I'm a Marvel fan,a Marvel Minimate fan but can that honestly be said about the Marvel Line?

Of course I wouldn't buy a 'DC- Non' because DC 'mates 'll be back....it is written ;)

  3. When I first started my addiction (from scratch) I concentrated on the variants first. This was generally(with expensive exceptions) a success, long term. In the UK ,it's not the variants that are the'problem' it's the exclusives that FU up. Exclusive AFX,Tower,TRU,Wal-Mart, FYE,Suncoast & heaven forbid Target are necessary 'evils' & IF you live in the States ,accessible & good fun, but it is almost a disease to be a completist in the UK :( However strangely enough although I've whinged about this many times....I love the chase, metaphorically & literally.

It may sound naff but if I hadn't have had a little(quite a lot actually) help from my friends here my 'disease' might have crushed me. Thankyou :D

  4. I confine my purchases of Minimates, out of necessity,to online shops & ebay.I have never bought a 'mate in a shop :o Bearing this in mind would someone explain to me how it works in a LCS when the 'mates hit the shelves? I assume the variants are priced higher (how much?) & isn't it human nature to grab them first? I genuinely don't know the score about this so....tell me please.

  5. Why is the Clint Eastwood stuff a no-go? When was that said?

    post-976-1205078888_thumb.jpg

thats right its safe to sell in the UK

IMOP this 'CE business' is little more than a 'smoke-screen' , let's face it have you ever seen 'mates marketed to any significant level in the UK? If you know me ,you know how much I love these critters & it hurts me to criticise the people who produce them but somebody in their marketing dept. needs a kick up the ass ....... & yes I COULD do better .

    l

i think their buying in large amounts from the US for us in the UK which i'm glad for as hate getting stung for custom's charge's

£12 for a set of minimates

    £12 shipping

    £4 vat charges

    £9 handling fee

    total £39 :(

but remember all the stuff they will be selling is "an adult only collectible not for children under the age of 14"

so no sticking minimates in your or your childrens mouths people

......so is it OK to stick them in the mouths of other peoples children

    ......12+12+4+9 = 37 ......

  6. A thousand figures is a lot to get through. Marvel Mates came out around 2003 and upto now we have had 20 waves (actually 19 as Ghost Rider Movie never came out) but lets stick to 20 waves as thats whats numbered.

    2008-2003= 5 years

    20 waves / 5 years= 4 waves a year

Ok this is where it gets messy I know I have left off box sets and exclusives not counting them in the waves so there is more then 4 waves a year but bear with me. 8 figures in a wave and I'm using that number as even though I know the extra figure is a double and most times the varient isn't a totally new figure exclusives or box sets for me pad the number up from a 6 to an 8.

    4 waves a year x 8 figures a wave= 32 figures a year

32 figures a wave / 1000 characters= roughly just over 31 and a half years! Will the franchise last that long, I dont think so :)

Now that is alot of minimate goodness to come and I'll be about due for my pension.

I'm expecting someone to say I'm way off be it amount of waves a year figures whatever I'm not saying this is gospel but it is supposed to be fun and it made me chuckle. I'm loving to see others give it a go

Now expecting to see some sort of minimate equation like E=MC2

I'll give it a hit (4WAYx8FAW)=32Y I'm sure someone can get something alot neater

I definitely prefer my answer

  7. To be honest with you I never thought we'd see 23 waves...so how long do you think marvel minimates is going to last as a line?

I mean there are only a thousand or so characters in the marvel universe right?

Only a thousand? I would settle for that  Bearing in mind the myriad of versions of Spider-man & Wolverine there have been I would say there are many waves to come from what remains in the Marvel universe.

  8. Props to the monkey that lives in my closet!!!!

    He's now in YOUR closet???

Does that mean the monkey is gay because he came out of the closet or is still hiding it as he went back into another?!

Maybe ? Perhaps he was running from the 'monkey with the gun' PYOW PYOW .....remember the monkey with the gun PYOW PYOW!!......I do

  9. Wonder why TBT has no props to give?

Perhaps because after your first post I'd have felt the need to say something about you that included the words obnoxious and retarded but thought I'd take the high road and suffer your ignorance with a smile.

Perhaps it's a simple case of those who deserve "props" or respect from me already know who they are without needing to post in a pointless 'me too' thread!

    T.

p.s. I'd recommend Oxford Comics too, unless it's changed much in the last 3-4 yrs. oh and the correct spelling for the road is Piedmont.

...from your BBC Sport reporter BHM ,ringside Madison Square Gardens..... ''....this is absolutely sensational ! For the first few rounds WW4M was calling the tune, goading the champ ,putting in a few dirty, low, very low punches . We all thought Tysonbo was finished ,he certainly appeared weary, very weary. Many people here had written him off,not for the first time either but what we had all forgotten was just how much of a champion Tysonbo is. Having retired to his corner after what surely was the penultimate round, brooding over WW4M's ignorance, obnoxiousness & apparent retardation ,a bell must have rung in Tysonbo's head, way before the bell for the next round. Once both these bell's were ringing, out came Tysonbo, statuesque, magnificent but above all ...angry. What happened next was brutal, sheer bestiality, as the champion consigned WW4M to the canvas, bruised & bleeding with a flurry of quick put-downs. WW4M is down & undoubtably out. There was no smile on Tysonbo's face however, this was his job,he was just doing what he does so well ......he put the guy down. It's all over.........

    ......but..wait ...I think.....Yes he is......WW4M is getting up ....he's shouting something.....something about Street Fighters?

You've got to give it to WW4M haven't you......haven't you...????

  10. As we seem to have slipped away from Iceman .......in the first 3 Marvel Waves were the variants short packed in exactly the same way as they are currently?

Yes I believe so, (But obviously in bubble packaging not boxed). it was still 4,4,3,1 per case.

    T.

I supposed that they were. I asked because I find it odd that I seem to have rather a lot of the 'unmasked Cyclops & Jean Greys' in my collection yet not as many 'ordinaries'!
