General Minimate Pictures Thread
nate_studio replied to Punisher's topic in Crisis of Infinite Minimates
Thanks everyone! As for Wolverine ending up shirtless... There was an episode of the 90s X-Men cartoon where Wolverine and Gambit get locked in a dark mine or something fighting a ton of sentinels and by the time the battle is over, Wolvie's shirt has been destroyed... for some reason. That's what I was going for. Because I love the 90s -

Just another Havok head swap suggestion: I used Peter Parker from the Amazing Spider-man wave. He doesn't have blue eyes, but at least they're just black instead of being brown or green. I also liked how his face matched up with the mask and that his expression was similar to his big brother's

Great to see somebody else from the Dayton area here on the boards. Guess that makes you competition now, though I picked up the Rhino/Iron Man set but I couldn't find Havok/Storm... Rhino is amazing, though - Great use of the bulked up pieces!

Awesome pics guys - I guess I really need to get some backgrounds if I'm going to keep up. In the meantime, I'll stick with my white backdrop. RYU HADOKEN! It's too bad his hands can't get any closer together... -
Happy birthday, Ivan. Thanks for creating/maintaining the database! I still reference it all the time.

Man, some great pics in here the last few days. Mmao, that Danger Room is uncanny! But seriously that thing is friggin amazing. I'm also jealous of everyone who has an AIM trooper. They came out during my I'll-only-buy-X-Men-mates-to-try-and-save-on-money phase, so I'm still missing out. Well, here's my newest contribution to the thread: Kingpin MODOK, Ryu and Akuma coming throughout the week. -

Thanks for the kind words about my Daredevil pics. That's a great Danger Room set up, MMao! What did you use for everything? I had to pay a little extra to get a Crossbones, but I love the way this dude looks. -

Thanks, guys! I'm glad people aren't totally sick of Spidey. This one is from a couple months ago. I'll have some newer ones later this week -
The best decision I made a couple years ago was to remove the Adobe Creative Suite from my home computer. It always seemed friends and family would hear "artist" or "designer" and immediately followed it up with " I have this great idea! Can you design/draw XXXXXXX for me?" Even at HALF freelance rate, they still balked at the cost for my time. Now I can simply say, "Sorry, I don't have any of that installed anymore." If anyone here is a dedicated freelance designer, you have my respect and admiration. Because at times, it was a thankless job, with copius amounts of stress. I'm scaling back on my freelance work for a lot of these reasons. Everybody wants something from you and a lot of people don't follow through with payment... My advice, though, is to find someone on the board or in real life that you can communicate with to do your design work rather than using a 99 Designs or similar service. 1- communication is key to getting the results you want and keeping your designer happy 2- those design contests aren't good for graphic designers or clients. Designers submitting work are offering up things they know might not get chosen and they might not get paid for, so it's generally not the highest quality work Just my two cents. Good luck with your project!

My revamped blog-thoughts on the new TMNT cartoon
nate_studio replied to Jeff's topic in The Minimates' Arms
I couldn't help myself... I was at TRU over the weekend looking for minimates when I walked by the new TMNT display. Long story short, I bought the four turtles, Shredder, a foot soldier and Kraang. I really like the designs for the turtles and the other characters are starting to grow on me. Anyone else buy these yet? -

Wow. Everything shown is amazing. I really thought TRU Fantastic Four was going to be my definitive versions of Reed and Sue, but wave 48 has changed that. I love all of the new parts and pieces to show their powers and abilities! I still can't wait for Venom, wave 47 or Alpha Flight. I can't believe how awesome Thundercats look. I didn't watch the cartoon growing up, so I had planned on skipping these... but it might be hard to pass them up. Battle Beasts look fantastic, but I really try to stick with just Marvel (emphasis on try). Still, some really impressive designs. Walking Dead doesn't really interest me, but they look good. Tekken X Street Fighter look great and will hopefully lead to some new parts for Marvel characters. I may grab a few SF mates to go with the ones I'll get in MvC3. Wave 50 is a mixed bag. It was a great opportunity and I'm glad Zach gave us the chance to pick the characters, I'm just not sure we picked the best characters. I'll grab a Zemo for sure, though. I think that's everything. There was so much awesome stuff to look at. Thanks to everyone who reported on the DST panel and took pics of the display
