  1. Overpower was great. Think Uno with superpowers meets War. Of course, it being a CCG I bought the entire set and expansions only to have them rerelease the entire series with the Intellect fighting ability/icon added to the character cards (thus making my collection unplayable with any new characters). To make matters worse, my mall stopped carrying them and I never found a single pack of the IQ boosters. It was then they started to release a DC Overpower and Image Overpower with IQ stats added. They had Spawn, Gen 13, Witchblade, to name a few. Years passed and I still had binders/boxes full of them before I decided to dump them all and get addicted to the next new hotness- Heroclix. Now I have a closet full of those things I never play either. Still, overpower held a special place in my geek heart- playing with my friends trying to build the ultimate team only to have a powerhouse who didn't have the right card at the right time to get defeated by Jubilee on an attack of 2. My one gripe with replaying it after all these years is the deck building. Now father to a one year old, the less free time I have- time I'd rather spend with her or doing other things than raking thru trading cards from 1993. Hence, the dice option. That, and I've seen so many of those dice cup games popping up at Target and the like that I thought it would be the best of both worlds. Problem is, making sure the mechanics work ok. I love the design end of it though. Here's the back of the character cards I made using a modified logo: On a similar note, I also love Fluxx and felt they needed to make a Marvel Version- so I had a buddy help me with making Marvel equvilents to Zombie Fluxx:
  2. Disclaimer: I haven't seen a lot if any, posts relating to board games on the MM, but thought I'd try it anyway.... I'm a huge super hero and board game fan. Loved both since I was a kid. Getting into graphic design and having access to the net I tracked down old games I used to have and either bought them back or looked into making an update version. One of my favorites from back in the 90's (now I feel old) was Overpower. I was able to track down a digital copy of every hero card and special and started to wonder if I could translate it into a dice game. I used eight sided dice, one for each stat to replace the standard attack cards: Energy, Fighting, Strength, and Intellect along with a special 6 sided die with a '+' a '-' and a blank symbol to modify the rolls of the other dice. Specials would be chosen at random from a draw pile to be placed in your hand or under a character. Gameplay remained the same- take out your opponent or infiltrate their base. I tried one test game with a buddy of mine and it seemed to go ok but was missing that super hero feel. Essentially, you are rolling dice and comparing which is higher to win that battle. Players would roll all their die and cherry pick what to keep then reroll up to two times to get something better. You'd then place the die on the character card (behind a paper wall as to keep secret from your opponent) and then reveal who was attacking who. Simple enough. I have all my old files on my desktop and continue to go back to it again and again. It really has the potential to shine. Granted, I won't sell it or pass it as my own creation, it's just something fun for me to tinker with and bring along on camping trips and the like. Any thoughts on how I could improve it? I've posted this on board game geek and didn't get much response. Thanks.
  3. Sorry to hear that Luke. Being a dad as well I feel your pain. By the time I got to the theater myself to watch Avengers I was exhausted. I really just wanted to see all of them fighting together instantly- and skip over the intro. Our plans to do dinner beforehand were botched. Pizza Hut was telling us it'd take 45 min just to get the order in as half the staff didn't show up to work. We went to another restaurant and were seated right away with drinks. We waited 20 minutes for the waitress to come back and get our order. We were running out of time. Tickets luckily ordered in advance, but still wanted to get a good seat (was sold out show). Long story short....TOO LATE. We ended up hitting Wendy's drive thru and scarfing it in the parking lot. Lame. My only other movie crap-out was when I went to see Back to the Future 3. Just as Marty drives into the indian mural drive in, there's the flash of light as he reaches 88 mph and then....THE FILM RIPS. Granted, it looked cool at first, but I was so upset. I had to wait two weeks until I could see it again.
  4. Found the 60's batmobile I was looking for at a Meijer near me- only one left too. Now my batcave is complete.
  5. Thor's the guy dating your sister.
  6. Not sure how to upload this banner below as my signature (tried Twitter, my blog, etc.) So here it is anyway.......
  7. YOUNG AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! Widow looks oddly like Jessica Alba. Hulk like a young Lou Ferigno. Hawkeye's the bully. It's the mullet.
  8. Did minor change to Skin. Swapped out flipper feet from Creature from Black Lagoon for the Hulk 'duck feet' and they fit much better. They do have a use after all!
  9. Thanks. Bill and Ted were the first successful mates I customed. Was thinking of doing the bogus journey versions too along with a death. Still have the historical figures from the first film to finish- along with Goonies, Ghostbusters: Displaced Agresssion and Eternal Champions. Got on an AOA kick for awhile there (23 total), think I may take a short break from customizing.
  10. Agreed. Any time I hear someone say that I can't help but follow it with Peppy from Starfox: "Trust your instincts!" "Use the boost to get thru kid!" "Do a barrel roll!!" That is all.
  11. AVENGERS!!!! Loved it. On that note already taking about Avengers 2 and which NEW avenger(s) would appear in the sequel: SPOILERS BELOW!! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE DON'T READ ON!! My thoughts on an Infinity Gauntlet style storyline: Seeing Wolverine fight alongside Iron Man would rock. Seeing ANY marvel teams together would rock. But yeah alien invasions are one thing. An evil alien that can alter time and space by wearing a glove with magic stones? A bit hard to swallow when you think about it. Plus, you’d (if staying true to the comic, which they wouldn’t ) have to include Adam Warlock and the infinity watch depicting the search for the gems before Thanos got them. Factor in every demi-god, space entity and Galactus as well trying to take it from him. Not happening. Unless---they go the Green Lantern route. Hear me out. Of all the comic movies I’ve seen- I loved the opening to GL- explaining Oa, the corps, the guardians and the traitor amongst them. Instantly got me excited in a matter of minutes which would have otherwise taken up the first half of the movie or been completely removed and just mentioned in conversation between older members: “It all went south when…..”. I understood parallax, he had motive, he wasn’t just the bad guy who looked creepy and was mean (like the Chitari minions, which after hearing the correct name couldn't get Atari 2600 out of my head.) IF…….and it’s a BIG IF, Avengers 2 could do something like that in regards to infnity gauntlet it just might work. But it needs more heroes to have that extra punch and threat level. It’s one thing to take down a super team- but multiple teams from one guy? That’s huge. Unfortunately the time between now and A2 ‘s release is unknown, far as I know. Just like how each character was established then brought together is how infinity gauntlet should be handled. Do nods to it here and there in other films, then connect those pieces for the grand reveal. I’m more interested in seeing who’s the next new member to the team. Thought Wasp would fit both the comic and comic to film slots. Take Janet’s fashion background and work her into doing PR for the Avengers working with Tony Stark and butting heads with Pepper Potts. “Now that you are heroes and in the public eye, you need to capitalize on it. You need me”. Have Stark Industries hire on Hank Pym who hits it off with Janet and by lab accident she becomes the Wasp. But not both Wasp and Giant/Ant Man. “An experimental serum I was working on- Pym Particles was released into your bloodstream….I’m so sorry…..” And as such, Janet having that ego would have to deal with shrinking down to microscopic size becoming ‘small’ in her own right but proving herself as an avenger in battle. So there’s already a nice story arc there if you think about it. Just my thoughts. Bitch away...
  12. I asked DST awhile back about HERBIE and they said no. Whatever that means....ditto for AOA & Ghostbusters. Thought the MU HERBIE would work, but he's too tall. I'd go with Blob using the Real Ghostbusters 'No-ghost' body as the template. I would make one, but I have the 'think I'll make this custom then DST announces they are making it after I hit commit to buy on ebay' curse.
  13. Was lucky to pick up a complete DC Imaginext Batcave (the side opening model, not the new tower version) at a garage sale with all (except Riddler) the rouges gallery for $10. Sadly, it didn't come with a batmobile. Like the batcave, I found there's two batmobiles out there- a nod to the 60's version and a nod to the Keaton/Burton batmobile with joker barrels. Now, the 60's version goes with the older batcave I have. Will the newer version fit as well? I'm not sure how wide it is- if it'll fit thru the drawbridge gate door. Has anyone tried? Or own both? Went out afterwards and picked up Clayface and Superman with Krypo- who's a perfect scale and style to fit right alongside the Action League figures I've been collecting. Is there a want/have trade forum for those figures? Still looking for a cyborg/elment woman 2 pk. Can't wait until my daughter is a little older (just turned one) to play with these sets together. Maybe she'll have a little brother then too....
  14. Yeah that reminded me of ultimate alliance 2 fuse power. Hulk was by far my favorite character. While chasing widow I was in like: SHI--- RUN!! Edge of my seat entire movie. Told buddy next to me when maria hill was barking out orders on ship: ....."and thats how i met your mother". Ha! Felt like a comic book, not a comic movie if that makes sense. (: Only gripe beginning was a little slow paced for me. Most i laughed during a super hero movie I gotta say. Hit all the right cords. Now to see how other studios will handke the team super hero genre- like xmen did when it was released.
  15. Now that I finished my AOA customs, I thought I'd put it all together. Here's the first two:
  16. Thanks. Now to pick up some orange paint. Finished painting the boots and gloves on lunch. If only Colossus was released.....(preordered).
  17. I didn't event think of that. That'd be perfect!
  18. The male/female chest muscle decal was originally from Luke's decal section on his site. Just wanted to clarify. The rest is me (well, with some help from the minimate database and Illustrator).
  19. All set. I've added a bunch of my decals above to the decal thread.
  20. Here's some of my Age of Apocalypse decals: Iceman, Chamber, Husk, Shadowcat, Mondo: Skin: M/Know-it-all (my absolute favorite custom of all the AOA I've done): Apocalypse's horseman Mikhail (in the works): ...and Abyss (for his mohawk, I'd recommend the atlantean guard helmet): Dazzler: Quicksilver: Hope this'll help fill the gap in your AOA collections! Enjoy!!
  21. Thanks! I don't mind- it's how I came about customizing in the first place. Seeing what others had done and tweaking it to my liking. Have at it! (:
  22. Thanks. Didn't think I could pull it off to be honest. I was thinking of treating sugar man like my original plan to make a krang from tmnt. Cut the arm pegs off a regular torso and build it up with apoxie. It's more the tiny details in an already tiny scale thats the issue. I can do it, it'll just be a long process of trial and error. Could turn out awesome though. I'll post decals of aoa and other tomorrow in the decal thread.
  23. I'm on the fence with doing sugar man. Think I'll save him for a rainy day. I'd have to sculpt the head/body and break the no nose rule. Making the teeth will be the most challenging. Liked how my man spider turned out though...hmm. Which decals in particular would you like? Should i post over on the decal thread or here? Both? (: I'll share my mikhail decal tomorrow.
