1. It's been quite a while since I made my last Minimate wallpaper. So when this image "came to me" I had to do something with it, or risk losing it (like so many others.) I really like how it turned out. Atmo. Widescreen resolution 1920x1200 Standard resolution 1600x1200 I thought about hanging on to it in case there were any new wallpaper contests coming up, but I was too eager to share.
2. I concur with 616commando. The last two years I stayed at the Town & Country out in Hotel Circle. It worked great for me because the trolley stop is short walk across the rear parking lot. Of all the hotels that SDCC has in its reserved block, rooms here seem to be the last to sell out. I don't know why, are people afraid of the trolley? The rooms are clean, they maybe a little expensive for what you get, but they're cheaper than almost everything downtown. Chuck wants your hugs!
3. Most of the toy news websites treat the E-Spectrum Newsletter (as opposed to the Radical Confidential) as a press release and post it on their sites. Action Figure Insider has already posted the full contents if you can't wait for it to hit your Inbox. Mods, please kill the link if it's not kosher.
4. Oops, caught in an edit. I posted the pic request before I realized you were that Jaycen. The Jaycen that has access to all the Minimate goodness that we mere mortals only dare dream. Still a big honking hat though.
5. So are those production "Few Dollars More" pieces or protos? Because that hat still looks huge.
6. It seems to me that he did answer your question. The probability of winning a lottery is very, very low, right?
7. I can't speak directly on Suncoast but the (2 of the 3) FYEs near me got both Trek2 and BSG3 in early December 07. I don't know if FYE and Suncoast get their shipments from the same distribution centers, but I thought I'd throw it out there regardless.
8. Here's the post you were unable to find.
9. And if you already have them hosted somewhere, the UBB code to make them show up in your posts will look a bit like this: (Of course the domain and filenames will be your own.)
10. Those listed in the MMMV SF definitive list & the ones I'm looking at right now don't exist then. My God there was no Target...& this is a dream  Chill ,nobody really cares THAT much. I forgot the other 4 pack did have all 4. One did and one didn't. WW4M Uh-oh WW4M. This Minimate god just asked me where you live. Something about smiting...
11. I'm afraid Dragon hasn't received the latest timeline so his data is a bit out of date. (That's what happens when you miss meetings because you stayed up late watching High School Musical 2 four times.) Importing Chihuahuas is a little more problematic than previously anticipated. There's apparently a shortage due to the sub-prime mortgage fallout. So we've scrapped the Poodle Catapult altogether and gone straight to the Poodle Trebuchet. Preliminary plans have already been drawn up. (See Attached) If the tests prove successful, expect Ivan's Poodle Delivery Service to be open for business and delivering hot, delicious poodles directly to your doorstep by Arbor Day 2008! Watch for the IPO in the summer.
12. Look in the Top right corner of the front of the box mr Kittens T. Ah yes, much like learning that poodles cannot fly, it's one of those things that is painfully obvious only when it is pointed out to me.
13. Thanks for the images guys. I don't see any "Variant Enclosed" labels on the Mary Jane or Transformation Venom packs. Were they skipped this time around or are they on the top of the card? Muchas gracias.
14. Thanks everyone. I'm glad people find the site useful. I figured this was the best place to note that there probably won't be any updates until after the new year. Christmas related pressures and whatnot. So the latest two Rocky packs, Defenders, Elf Spock (if I ever get one), and anything released between now and then (Spidey 3?) will have to wait. As my bank likes to say all too often, I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
15. I steal the eyes from children's stuffed animals, then sell them back to the kids for highly inflated prices.
16. Damn. Now I wish I would have hung out at the DST booth when the hall closed on Sunday and shamed myself for the BTTF poster.
17. I was the pedant that asked about the case breakdowns. Since Chuck didn't know about these I'm hoping some of the more prolific buyers around here can shed some light on this. I purchased three sets of both BSG 3 and Trek 2 and here are the cases I received: (BSG Closeup) (Trek Closeup) To me they look to be "DST sealed" with a single layer of packing tape. Inside, each set of four 2-packs were in their own bag with the usual tissue paper separating the individual packs. I'm wondering if anyone else has received a different case and how many of the variant packs were inside. My local FYE recently put out a case of Trek with only one Swashbuckling Sulu (no outer case to be found though ), so I know that particular breakdown is out there. I'm just wondering if AFX and BBTS got special assortments. Nevertheless, I hope these 'custom' assortments continue. Anyone else buy a case? (Pantone note: It's too bad those Woverine/Iceman Target packs never showed up in bulk near me.)
18. Welcome to the MMMV Orpheus. Right now that auction is the only way. (But don't bid 'cause I want it.) People have asked DST in the past if the posters themselves would be made available but we've never gotten a firm answer. DST makes a lot of different kinds of items (toys, replicas, statues) but really nothing in the way print items. It could be something they want to get into, or maybe not. We don't really know. As for authenticity, I'm pretty sure it's legit. (But don't bid 'cause I want it.) The seller's nick seems very familiar to me, but I can't remember why. I'm pretty sure they have ties to AA or DST in one way or another.
19. There appears to be two different case assortments for BSG Series 2, BSG Series 3, and Star Trek Series 2. There's the usual 4,4,3,1 assortment with the variant being one per case. It seems some retailers also received a evenly packed 3,3,3,3 custom assortment where the variant is not shortpacked. (I'm a fan of this even pack-out, by the way.) Was this even assortment requested by the retailers or was it a special offer given to valued DST clients? Will this assortment be offered for future BSG and Trek series? Will this assortment be used for other Minimates lines, Marvel in particular? Thanks.
20. It's a little complicated. To keep them from toppling over I stick each one on my Van de Graaff generator to give them each a huge positive charge. Since like charges repel, they all force each other to stay standing. I guess it can be best explained with an example. Say you have three Minimates in a row, for simplicity we will call them A, B, and C going from left to right. Perhaps B is a little unstable and starts leaning towards A. The positive charge on A then pushes against the positive charge on B and B starts to lean towards C. Of course C pushes back and it bounces back and forth until they reach a state of equilibrium. A positively charged "fence" around the perimeter prevents anyone from flying off the edge. I have to be extra careful when working with them though. I have to be insulated from ground (0V) so that I don't bleed off the charge by touching them. You know that little static shock you get every once in a while when you touch something metal. Imagine that multiplied by 467. That's the danger I face here people. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It's logically to extend the one-dimensional example above to a two-dimensional one so the Minimates don't fall forward or backward. But what's really cool, is that you can also extend it in three dimensions. In some areas the gravitational force is a smidge weaker and If I balance it just right I can actually get a Minimate to levitate above the others. It's tricky and it seems there are only few 'mates that can do it, but it's really cool when it works. Once I had Storm floating above the X-Men and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. A couple days ago, I was experimenting with Sulu and something really weird happened. There must have been some weird electrical harmonic effect or ionization disturbance because all of a sudden he just shot up into the air. One minute he was happy as can be, hovering over the group of Aragorns, the next he was Junior Birdman! I still haven't pulled him out of the ceiling. Now for the real answer, it's Lego plates basically. Everyone with C3 feet went on a 16x16 base plate in front of the 3 Inchers. Then the rest went in front of the plates. Since it would be too much of a pain to add more plates, newer releases end up in front even if they have C3 feet. My carelessness did cause a few topplings, but the damage was mitigated because the Minimates on plates weren't going anywhere. The most frustrating was when I took out about 15 with my camera strap.
21. Well, it's about time I posted in here. I originally set this up for the photo contest and I've just been adding all the new releases to it. (Click to enlarge.) My favorite so far. No pics of the LOTR side yet. I've got to clean the place up to fit my tripod over there.
22. It's good to know I'm not the only one who likes hairy nipples.
23. I was able to pick up the sets on Wednesday but family obligations kept me away from my sweet, sweet, 1192Kb/s connection. Let's start with the 4-Pack first... Unfortunately, my photo of the front of the 4-pack was terribly blurred and I hadn't realized it until well after it was destroyed. It's basically the same as the Season 1 pack. Here's the interior tray so you can at least see the accessories. Click thumbnails for larger images of the figures. (If you want to that is.) Jack Bauer Tony Almeida Michelle Dessler (knows how to party) George Mason (shoulder holster prevents his right arm from lowering any further) The packaging on the 2-Pack is different from any other pack this far. It's rounded from left to right instead of top to bottom like most other Minimate packs. Nothing special, just different. I like it because that orientation is easier to photograph. Jack Bauer (He's like a bad penny, I hear.) Andre Drazen Hopefully these will all be properly linked in the database by the end of the weekend, but I thought I post them here now because I love you all so much.
24. Thanks everyone. The black shirt is starting to grow on me. It does have a certain charm to it. I'd like to make these available to others, but I get all my knowledge on Intellectual Property Law from Wikipedia. (Can elephants really peel a grapefruit faster than any other mammal?) So I'm afraid to poke that dragon. I'm hoping the fact that I created the images will prevent DST's (or worse, Marvel's) legal team from suing me into the stone age. But if threadless.com can sell a shirt with Darth Vader pruning a tree and not face the wrath of Lucas's mighty ninja lawyer clan, why can't I do something similar. Is the Vader image considered parody? I know mine isn't. More research is required. On the other hand, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
