  1. These aren't the minimates you're looking for... "These aren't the minimates we're looking for."
  2. Yeah, we may have another clone saga on the horizon. Question is, now that we've seen one for sure, how many more are going to crop up? Will the 50 States Initiative herald in more? If so, will they be clones of those we know and love? Though it would go miles towards explaining how we can have the same 5 X-Men battling Apocalypse while hunting down Vulcan and fighting off Nimrod and who knows what else.
  3. DC Minimaets coming soon to a store near you... oh no that's right.. they 've been delayed with no word on when we are gonig to get them.... Never mind. Nice Job Antacost as always... T. That's the news on all things minimates. I'm just about tempted to blow the dust off my Sentry and Ronin minimate customs and finish those.
  4. Great job, as always boyd! I too love the small details like the oversized feet on Beast and the texture on Iceman. Granted, he's no lump of clay rolled in coconut, a la Twisted Toyfare Theater, but he'll do.
  5. He never said specifically that they had shipped. They're known for deceptive speak. I believe all he said, or rather, asked, is if we've seen them in stores yet. Oh, cruel mistress, why do you taunt us so?!
  6. I agree. After a lackluster 10 and 11, I was a bit disappointed by 12 and 13 being more blatant reuse, even cutting corners on the parts they would reuse. But, after waiting so long and having my irritation turn into full-blown rage, I'm actually craving these poor representations of the New Avengers and Astonishing X-Men. I'm not a big DC fan, but seeing all those new characters with all their new scales and parts, I was excited about them too. Now, its turning into irritation, since we aren't likely to see the good stuff anytime soon. Street Fighter, I was excited about. But it never showed up in Greenville. Not even the 4-packs. More irritation because no access to the good stuff. Speed Racer...hey, it was something new. Vehicles with characters, something unheard of for AA at the time. I was never a SR fan, but hey, new minimates, right? These things come out (not in Greenville) and we discover the paint apps ain't great, the one part that isn't part of your average blank minimate is a reuse, and they didn't even bother to make the character match the source material (Speed's shoes). Irritation. Judging by my range of emotions for the Marvel line, I think they're delaying this stuff to make us love lower quality crap. How long before I go from irritation to hunger for sub-par Speed?
  7. If they can't get dead people's approval, then does that mean no Bones and no Scotty? Regardless of if or when we see new Star Trek mates, I agree wholeheartedly that this constant delay is getting rediculous! Marvel is what drew me into this whole product. I found a Spidey on ebay and I got it. It wasn't long before I had the whole Marvel line. I got C3, though I was never a big DC fan, because it was still interesting characters. I didn't really like LotR because I didn't think the larger scale translated as well, but I still bought hobbits to support my customs and support AA/DST. Then, things started disappearing from shelves. I couldn't find any minimates. Then, we started getting part reuse in the Marvel line. When they announced Street Fighter as a line, I figured the new sets would get reuses to make up for the new parts for the new figures. But SF never hit stores here. And we got more part reuse in the next wave of Marvel. LotR was dead by now. C3 was dead by now. They aren't in a rush to make new SF. BSG isn't in any particular hurry to come out. DC isn't in any particular hurry to come out. Speed Racer was lower standards and part reuse. And still we wait for Marvel's latest reuse wave. DC was supposed to be the turning of a corner as far as minimates go. Varying sizes for varying characters in the line. More villains, more characters in general. Loads of accessories and new parts. But, instead of coming out and changing the world of minimates, it got delayed like everything else. Rediculous!
  8. Not sure if it counts, but it is among the best entries so far. Great job in capturing the look and feel of the poster in true minimate fashion.
  9. I don't venture out into ebay much anymore, mostly because I've found all the figures I've needed so far. I have all the Marvel figures thus far, and one of each DC character released to date. I only used LotR for parts, because the characters were too plain for my taste, and I'm waiting for shipment of my SF2 minis. Only time I browse ebay anymore is if I'm looking for a particularly ellusive part I need for customs, or if I want to kid myself in thinking I can find a Batcycle or a Batcopter complete with figure. I never had much interest in finding the old 3" figures, though scoring that bird from one of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon figures would go a long way in one custom I'm working on. Generally, bidding isn't worth the effort. When I actually keep the high bid come the end of the auction, the seller usually finds cool new ways to rip me off.
  10. Hey, I'm all for visiting the old favorites. I wasn't into comics back during the original black costume days, so for me to get that same thrill from the new version would be kinda nice. And I'm all for changing characters around, so long as its done respectfully and for the right reasons. With the current events in the Marvel Universe, it makes sense for Spidey to unmask, and as a result it will bring in a whole bunch of new conflicts and struggles that should make for some interesting story telling. He didn't have that much to lose anyway, since a great deal of his villains knew who he was in some way or another. I'd rather see the end result of the world knowing than another "short term amnesia" story where they make someone conveniently forget it. Another costume change also makes sense, to some degree. We know that Spidey is going to switch sides at some point during Civil War, meaning that he'll likely have to ditch the Iron Spidey costume, either by repossession or because he doesn't trust the link it has between him and Tony. Red and blue has been used so much that the world would recognize it, so he may don the black to keep a lower profile. Or we could see a death, as has been mentioned before, where wearing black in a show of sorrow would also make sense. But I don't think revisiting old ideas or making character changes are automatically bad. It's not raping a character's legacy to try and progress character development. Except the whole Gwen Stacy/Norman Osborn thing. That was just bad. Hopefully its revealed that that Gwen was the clone and the real one never touched Osborn.
  11. Didn't mean to imply any pressure. Just surprised we've gone this long without seeing anything. I understand how complicated life can get. If you don't make the cut off date, then at least I get the priviledge of losing to a different list of names than usual.
  12. Some people are cutting this contest down to the wire. Only about a week until submissions end, but we've yet to see anything from some of our more prominent members.
  13. I don't think it would cost effective to make these mail-away figures. Think about the approximate cost of your average 2-pack, which is what, upwards of 8 or 9 dollars now? Given the massive amount of unique sculpts for these things, I can imagine each single figure would be worth about the same as the average 2-pack. So, how many boxes of cereal, or bags of cookies would you have to purchase to be elligible for just one of these, let alone the entire set? Definitely not cost effective to include them in the actual cereal either. No, their best bet is to box these individually in its own little "cereal box", put them on an aisle somewhere and pray. Shoot, these things might actually be available in super markets and grocery stores next to cheap Lego sets and whatnot. All that said, I'm still not on board with this. I just can't see some kid picking this up in the checkout line and going, "I wonder what other minimates they make?"
  14. Still none in G-ville, but I see where they've cleared an entire shelf for something, so perhaps I'll see it fill a spot on that vacant area.
  15. I must have scored the last of the variants, because they were listed in stock at $3.99 when I was there earlier.
  16. The Street Fighter II wave 1 2-packs are listed on Amazon.com at $3.99. Even the variant set is listed at this price, and as in stock. So if anyone's short on any of these guys, nows a pretty good chance to stock up.
  17. Its not stupid. After all, your math is sound. The two 4-packs include Ryu, Akuma, Morrigan, Demitri, M Bison, and Chun Li as the six regular release figures from the first wave. Lillith was the variant, but she's not included in this set. Then you also get Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma, an exclusive set, bundled with the regular six to make 8.
  18. Latest customs added. Fresh from the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four, the Zombie (Frightful) Four. The acid spraying Patient Demon from Silent Hill 2. The Wakandian hero, Black Panther. The muscle of the Enforcers, Ox. Coming soon, to a custom thread near you: Civil War
