  1. I would like to say I am a passionate collector. The more accurate term would be rabid. Over the years I have learned some expensive lessons. The first being research. If an item is creeping around a dollar mark that is beyond your comfort level shop around hard and find out what is driving the price, i.e. rarity, character popularity, speculative buyers, etc. If you do your homework you can usually come up with a good idea of what is a fair price to pay (and by fair I mean a price you can likely recoup if you decide to part with the item). The second lesson in regard to ebay if you really want something there learn to snipe but when you do it its a balls to the wall maneuver for sure. Put in a last minute bid but don't go cheap, its an auction the idea is for the seller to get the most the market will bear not for a buyer to get a good deal, so bid big or go home. All that being said I have had "Grails" in one case I let myself get into a week long biding war with another two buyers, a war I won, but with great cost ( I ended up spending close to 5X the market value and wound up taking a serious loss when I sold the collection off) I ate peanut butter sandwiches and ramen noodles for a month after that purchase its a shame thats what it took for me to figure out theres almost always a better deal if your patient.
  2. I have made at least one gently off color comment on the FB page in the past and was very gently asked to curb my behavior , to which I was happy to oblige. but I cant say I ever noticed them deleting a comment. (for those that must know I referred to minimates as "plastic-crack" which they very much are}
  3. Thanks for the compliments Bob, glad you enjoy them. I would have never come up with the body for Odin if Mr Mystery hadn't of posted the great qc he did. The cloak, boots and head combo is what got me going in the first place.
  4. I love QC type customs and upgrades, as such I haven't done much in the way of showing much in the way of anything other than parts knowledge and some minor creativity. For a long time I've wanted to share some of the models and other bits of my collections I really enjoy but no real camera to use. I will have a camera on loan for some ebay stuff I have going but wanted to take some practice pics first and thought it would be a good chance to share with my fellow 'verser's. If any one has any pic requests let me know and I'll try and accommodate them. First up are some of my favorite model kits I've built. B9 Robot LIS by Polar Lights: Thor by Toy Biz: Hulk by Toy Biz: Captain America vs. Red Skull: Hope you folks enjoy these they were a blast to build up and paint. More collection pics to follow
  5. Thanks so much! I agree a comic style warriors three is needed badly. I also looked at using the chest block from the 1st app avengers IM but in the end the tampo just kept on looking like IM chest block. Another option was using champions BW wrist blasters for full gold gauntlets but in the end I liked the movie odin bracelets it helped tie his helmet together with the whole thing.
  6. I like your take on Odin. I really enjoy the customizing community here, the way one of us might pop out an idea and then others grab on and start tweaking up their own version.
  7. I used to have issues with shipping charges but in the long run its worth it in saved gas and ease of acquisition
  8. oh snap, AF looks great, I love Sasquatch
  9. I'm moving in May So That should be a good thing, also. The Avengers movie The Hobbit part 1 new season of Avengers: emh Kang/Falcon 2 pack
  10. I agree in whole with you Miry as far as Jarvis vs HOMER. JARVIS has grown on me in movies and the toon'verse but I still wish it was Jarvis himself. I mean they don't go mucking with Alfred right?
  11. I fell in love with Mystery Mans Odin QC, which is real close to an accurate color motif but I wanted to hide the source parts a little more and threw a Dreadnaught into the mix. I used the "naughts" arms and the upper portion of the leg and the lower half of 42s BRB leg. I think if I ever come across one I would try Arthur's gold chest block to take it one more step closer to comic style. Just a great QC and I hope I'm giving credit where its due. Final version.
  12. Nope, no photoshopping. That's just danger room Wolverine's head standing in. @ youbastard: Are you referring to the word DOIN' cause that's how it was intended to be written. lol, so it is. I like it even more!
  13. That was funny. I really like the photoshop smirk on G's face, nice touch.
  14. I like the approach they have used as far as making the characters and story a bit more modern but still leaving a classic marvel flavor to it. I guess it boils down to a classic visual style for the characters and more of a writing style suited to today's audience. Love all the fore shadowing, after watching this first episode I remember clearly how charged up these micro's got me for the new series.
  15. I'm thrilled to finally have Dormammu in my clutches but have to confess there are a couple of lack luster points I wanted to change. I don't know if its from seeing my qc in the collection so long or that I just hate that flame hair piece but it needed to be swapped with a Ghost Rider hair piece it also cured my second issue with the fig (I hate tampo faces on clear heads) they always seem to get washed away the lighter hair piece let the tampo shine through and gives a better overall look. Also a couple of gauntlets to spice him up a bit, he was kind of plain. Shown here with Baron Mordo and a non comic accurate Umar. Sorry for the poor pic quality my phone camera is kind of useless.
  16. Thanks! I still have to do a version with his glasses off. I have an idea for a really cool setup using the hall of justice piece that came with the young justice figures. It's my favorite episode as well. I'd like to make more but not sure who else who make a good 'mate. Kanamit with to serve man book? Four armed Venusian and 3 eyed Martian? Waiting on the next zombie wave as I spotted a soda jerk with the hat I'd need. What are your other two fav TZ episodes? One of my other faves is the episode where Burgess is given superhuman powers by aliens. I also have a real soft spot for the episode with Buster Keaton and the time travel helmet, great episode! A very honorable mention would be the movie version of Terror at 20,000 feet with John Lithgow. There are many more I love. my chilhood sunday mornings were spent with things like Twilight Zone Outer Limits, Wild, wild, wild west, Star Trek:TOS, Voyage to the bottom of the sea and scores of other classic series
  17. Oh my gosh I would be all about a Herbie with a flight stand pack in, He would be perfect to throw in with a Reed fig to change up from the stretch base. Or if you wanted to go all out a 2 pack with herbie and Roberta with a front desk type of set up would be outstanding, never gonna happen, but if it did I would buy it up fast. This poll would be easier if it was more like your top minimate you could live with out and even then if its a new character in M form I'll still want it
  18. Those little boxes and their pop up counter display always struck me as an effort to make minimates something of an impulse purchase. You know the kind of small item near the register that doesn't cost too much and might be fun. Todays Mates are a little beyond that and demand exposure. I agree that a little effort posing them might go a long way for sales. Even the group photo on the back has them in a fairly static pose. The mini poster with the AIM agents was a step in the right direction but you had to buy the mates to see it. That kind of photo on the back of the box could be inspiring to a new buyer. I still love that shot with all the aim agents and the claw hands flailing around
  19. I'll be watching on you tube and just want to clarify what episode "1" is. Are we starting with the "Break out" episode or the compiled micro "origin" episodes? I'm good either way but if we start with break out I want to go watch the micros myself first.
  20. source art for Swarm shows "him" barefoot but he does wear gloves. I used sentinels classic look gloves the color match is close enough, I would like to "tatter up" the cloak and hood though as his is fairly ratty
  21. Another simple QC. Mandarins legs, battle ravaged wolverines torso and head, movie wolvie arms, bill murrays hair piece sharpied black and Ms Marvels sash. Classic Shaw. Also my parts swapped Thor and a quick Don Blake from the stuff floating in my parts bucket inspired by the many I've seen here.
  22. Gosh those Twilight Zone mates are epic! I just love the Henry Bemis one, that is one of my three all time favorite episodes.
  23. the water gel was the very same thing I would suggest. If you want something more solid they make 2 part clear epoxy but I think it would be pretty cost prohibitive
  24. I was lucky enough to have my order go through, These showed up for me monday and I just got the chance to open them up last night. While I was really looking forward to thor/balder. I must say Crossbones is just fierce!
