  1. I finally got a new digital camera and decided I should try to take some pictures of some of my custom minimates (some of the pictures turned out really bad so I'll retake them later) These will range from quick custom part shuffling to sculpting/painting full customs... Arkham Staff and their favorite patient -Dr.Quinzel (hair: DCD Harley Quinn, face: Silken Floss, Coat/arms/hands: Doctor Baltar, Skirt:President Roslin, Torso, legs, feet:?!? escapes me at the moment) -Inmate Joker (hair: Zombie Hulk, face: DCD Joker, everything else: Hannibal Lektor) -Dr. Crane [movie version] (hair: Miniseries Baltar, face: Lt. Felix Gaeta with sharpie glasses, everything else: the man in black w/ short coat and sharpie recolored vest/shirt) ADVENTURE! Brave and the Bold Aquaman, since what minimate adventure ISN'T in need of a strong swimmer? he has duck feet since I thought they looked appropriate on him. he looks fun on a blue flame base too! Civilian Slade I really like the unmasked Deathstroke face, but like to display my Deathstroke with his mask on with my Teen Titans. SOLUTION: Place the head on Frank Castle's body, for a classy 'time off' Slade. To: Bruce, From: Your Friend, Obadiah It's a... Bat Monger? I don't know, I just thought it'd look cool (head is C3 Guilder Batman, Body is obvious) THE MUTANT WITH SHOES FOR HANDS!!! Fans of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" may remember this fella (not sure if he survived the trek to the "Tonight Show") It's SHOE-VERINE!!! (head is Cowboy Logan from the Through the Ages set, hair is the newer 'every Logan gets this hair!!!' hair, feet are not C3 feet, the rest is movie 'Weapon X') BARELY COUNTS AS A "CUSTOM" I thought the "cowboy Logan" from the through the ages box set was a good idea, but lacked in a few ways. I sculpted more pronounced 'hair tuffs' on the sides of his head, switched out the 'big crotch' with a movie Wolverine's belt (probably the one that became Shoe-verine's) replaced his 'blocky' boots with a pair of more detailed "For A Few Dollars More" pair, switched his left hand with T-1000's so he could tip his hat, and finally gave him X-Force Wolverine's sneer... all and all a lot of typing to say "it doesn't look all that different now, does it?" Dr. Crane AGAIN! Scarecrow, Scarecrow, Scarecrow.... Hat and 'neck thing' are from the DCSH Scarecrow (I replaced his head with a Hush Scarecrow's so I had them lying around) hands are Lady Deathstrikes and skirt is Akuma's, he's painted crummy on purpose in hopes it makes him look like his costume is made of dirty sacks. Field Tested I didn't really like "Batman: Gotham Knights" but I thought the design in "Field Tested" was pretty neat AND bared a striking resemblance to several available or (then) soon to be available pieces, well from the waist up anyway, most of this is just guestimation and picking whatever worked best.. Head is a C3 mask that has a similar nose profile to the Field Tested helmet (Classic Flyer Batman I think), Armor is from Assault Armor Punisher (with a little cut off the bottom), two New Goblin Gauntlet (a hole was cut in the bottom so they could be put on upside down), Nova's belt, and Heavy-Assault Batman's boots He doesn't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs... Tony Stark (minus) hands, feet, head (plus) hands, feet, and head of movie Beast = THIS! This photo really ruins the effect... Shadow Batman! AND FINALLY: THE GREATEST THING EVER!!!! 'the Red D' and Senator Giggles!
  2. this would be an excellent set, and your designs for it are terrific
  3. After thinking about the matter for awhile, you know, just ignore my giant rant... I just realized: I can't wrap my brain around the concept of "Alien Tech" working. Why did the aliens crash on Earth? Why haven't they comeback? Will they come back? Are they with us or against us? Are the Mandarins rings unique or does each ship have it's own set of 10 rings? so now for something completely different: Can the Savage Lands work in the movies? I think the next movie with Iron Man be it 3 or Avengers (or even 2 if they can make it quick enough) is a scene where he suits up and walks to an open Window, Pepper is all like "Where you going?" and Tony's all like "Eh, no where really, just out for a flight" cut to him whizzing past a tropical jungle, he finds himself flying with a flock of pterasaurs, he rolls away and narrowly avoids being chomped on by a T-Rex, he streaks over the surface of a lake and a brontosaurus looms it's head out, munching on greenery. Tony then blast off into the sky *BINK!* (if you need a random cameo, on a hill in the foreground watching him leave are Ka-Zar and Sheena) cut back to him landing at his office window pulling off his helmet, Pepper says "How was your flight, boss?" he says "Okay I guess, nothing special..." In my opinion there's no way in hell that could work with that level of set up (just random trip, dinosaurs, home.) but it would be the funniest thing every just see people who don't know what the savage lands is try and process why there's random dinosaurs.
  4. Would it really be that hard to work straight up "magic" into Iron Man? I think people are either taking the movie too seriously or thinking audiences have no suspension of belief when they think Thor will be hard to work into Avengers or the Mandarin will need major reworking to be in Iron Man 3. A writing teacher of my mine used to say "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.... unless you salt his oats!" meaning if you gradually work an audience up to the idea of "this guy shoots magic from his fingers" they're more likely to accept it then if you just drop it out of nowhere and say "yeah, Iron Man takes place in our world but look his guys magic!" There's already some ques in the first film that set up for this: -Tony Stark builds his arc reactor in a cave from a box of scraps. dirty, rusty, scraps. Not only does his dirty rusty thing WORK he then has his doctor friend cut open his chest in the middle of said dirty cave and sink the rusty piece of junk into his chest. Tony's body don't reject having a large dirty metal object transplanted into it, nor does it get infected causing him to die quicker.... so right now, if audiences can suspend their belief about how science works, maybe magic isn't so crazy. -In addition to crazy surgery Tony's got the whole taking house, semi-sentient robot arm helpers, interactive holographic computer displays, real time dialog translators that pick up on inflection in voice, arc reactors that fit in the palm of your hand but could power a house forever, and an at home robot suit prototyper that would only take a couple hours to build a fully functional high tech suit.... basically for as much as Iron Man is set in "the real world" there's some crazy stuff going on already science wise that makes it clearly a "different reality" so some guy showing up with magic rings isn't going to be "pfffff! that dosen't happen!" point or most people. -Nick Fury's line "you're part of a bigger universe... you just don't know it yet" right there implies Tony doesn't know dick about the superhero world around him. Done right Tony can met Thor and fight Mandarin, their magical powers can confuse Tony and he becomes the audiences "in" to learning how exactly that works in the "real world" Plus Mandarin has one major thing going for him: He's Chinese Most audiences will believe "Asian=Spiritual Mystics" it's why you can go to a "health food" store and find gross baggies of "dried Xiang Quaoi Shang root" crazy white people will drink as tea because it cures headaches or something in a more natural way, despite the fact modern China is heavily polluted and uses Western Medicine. Just have the Mandarin yell something like "These rings belong to my ancestors, their great power allowed Genghis Khan himself to conquer the global and so shall I do the same!!" and right there most people will be all "okay, so their like Chinese magic rings, got ya!" ..... and so long as Mandarins rings are element based and they don't make him too powerful (just keep it to martial arts and shoots magic bolts) people will buy it as "Asian Mystical Powers" (but maybe I'm wrong, After I wrote this I began to think: If a man with a robotic arm, like nothing fancy just a robot arm to replace a missing one. Showed up in the Next Harry Potter movie and explained his arm was made using Muggle Science, no magic at all but was a really cool looking and well working arm... would people buy it since HP has such a strong anti-Muggle message. Are people taking away from Iron Man a "magic is stupid, let's ROCK IT WITH SCIENCE!!!" message?)
  5. Iron Monger gets us a quarter of the way there.... we still don't have a Hulk minimate that would require a suit that big to bust. (Movie Mark 3 is about the same size as Red/Heroes/Movie Hulk, Ultimate Hulk is only slightly larger. It'd be like bringing one of those crazy rocket propelled race cars used to set ground speed records to a race when everyone else was ridding unicycles... We need a Monger sized Hulk before a Monger Sized Hulkbuster even begins to make sense.)
  6. the use of mark 3 parts is inspired!
  7. Not just 'Chef Tony' but "IRON Chef, Chef Tony"... it's TWO jokes.
  8. while I'm not against a Movie Black Widow, I just wanted to say if given the choice of 20 versions movie armor Iron Man or Movie Black Widow I will stick with the 20+ armor collection.
  9. yes, a million times yes! comment on non-streched version: as much as I don't like the outside of that car, the inside's pretty nice (maybe I could cut off the hood, the roof and back and just sink the seats and steeringwheel into a Brave and the Bold Batmobile or something to kitbash myself a properly scaled car not made of blocks with proper minimate seating)
  10. if this is old news disregard but look, BBTS posted a picture of War Macine Minimate http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...mp;picture=aux1 now I just wonder which Iron Man is the mystery mate (5, 6? maybe both and 4 is a TRU figure they're just showing because they can?)
  11. I have no frame of reference as to what the robot is supposed to be, and I guess the fake X-Jet is pretty okay... but I don't like the Delorean one bit. I've always been of he school of thought even though mini-mates where small, simple, and blocky, there weren't "chibi" (or "super-deformed" whatever the current term is), 'cartoony', or 'lego.' So they don't work with "Shake N Go" or "Super Hero Squad" vehicles and playsets and look weird next to building block vehicles/playsets that are made 99% bricks rather then pre-fab slabs like Megablocks sets. So it kinda goes without saying the both the C3 (good size and scale, but made of blocks) and ther mini-flyers (not made of blocks, but chibi) fail to impress me. I think a minimate vehicle should look more like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3532868 same size compared to a minimate a real car would be compared to a real human, just simplified down. (speaking of which, does anyone know how big that $40 "Batmobile-to-Batjet" Brave and the Bold Batmobile actually is, it looks waaay nicer then this one, but it's basically blind boxed and don't want one that looks like Minimate Batman is driving the Bat-Hummer-Limo) ... all that being said though, if a fun Marty variant comes with the Delorean I will probably buy it anyway.
  12. Does Ult.Doom still have the goat feet? That'd be pretty cool to see in minimate form. I've already listed this idea before, but Immagonna list again: Fantastic Four needs box sets similar to the Classic X-Men/X-Factor sets. Set 1: "Powered Down" in Dark Blue/White outfits -Lab Coat Reed with Test Tubes -Secret Wars Poll Loser Ben Grimm -visible Sue Storm (with an extra set of half-phasing limbs) -non-flamey Johny Storm (also with extra phasing limbs, fire hair, and flight stand) Set 2: "Powered Up" in Blue/Black outfits -Mr.Fantastic with bendy limbs -the Thing (with those weird new Beast duck boots) -Invisible Girl (with a second set of limbs that start clear at the shoulder/hips but phase to solid at the hands/feet) -The Human Torch (same kinda limbs as his sister, just fiery instead of clear) Set 3: "a set in case the colors above don't match the team costume you like best": -Mr.Fantastic and the Thing from set 2 but in Dark Blue/White costumes -visible Sue and non-flamey Johnny from set 1 in Blue/Black outfits. TRU tie-in: -Lab Reed (in Blue/Black) with Invisible girl (who's solid limb ends are Dark Blue/Black) -Ben Grimm (in Blue/Black) with Human Torch (who's solid limb ends are Dark Blue/Black) that way EVERYONE is happy!
  13. I found Surfer and Swordsman today, I feel a bit silly since I really only bought them for the updated board and purple effects (if anyone wants a complete Swordsman let me know, I certainly don't) I do enjoy the purple lightning, but then I'm just a sucker for clear purple energy blast.
  14. Really? Because except for when I bought them, I haven't seen Weapon XI or Gambit anywhere... Seconded, of course it's probably just because I passed up Gambit the first time I saw him and just now decided I need him for a custom they aren't clogging here.
  15. I don't think it was a hint so much as a reference to the dumbest "joke" in movie history
  16. I already responded to this comment once, but now that I have my Scorpions I just wanted to say: The tail fits onto TB Venom with no modification needed (aside from needing a coat of paint) no glue, no cutting, it stretches the belt a little and the heads a little easier to knock off on accident but overall it works great.
  17. .... either we go to the same TRU or several people pulled that switch.
  18. I went at 2am, no line to get in but HELLA long lines to get out. No minimates what so ever though so if you didn't go good on ya. (I did however stop at Gamestop, they opened 2 hours earlier then their early opening at 4am so I'm done with Black Friday before most people even get to go into the stores. WHEEE!)
  19. I haven't seen any repacked recently but back in the day I bought a set or two from TRU for fodder and found COMPLETELY different minimates on the inside then on the outside (don't even remember whom, I think I got a BD Daredevil Instead of a BD Spider-man and some other such switched) although I have seen some boxes torn to shreds recently like someone wanted to steal them then gave up and found a box with Wave 4 Wolverine and Sabretooth only without Wolverine. Some of the weirder 'return repacks' I've seen: -A Toy-Biz "X3" (or whatever the offical name for their "X-Men Classics to tie into X3 while not being based on X3" line was called) White Jim Lee Storm being replaced a 5 in version of the character. The figure didn't fit at all and the box was held together with tape. -a box of four matchbox cars: three of the cars were replaced with poor quality plastic cars and one of the cars was replaced with 3 or 4 little green army men. (at first I thought it was a cute idea for them sell some army men with cars, but then I realized someone had just stolen the real product and replaced it with crap.) -Someone replaced a Pixar CARS' car with a random mini-motorcycle.... Seriously? The line has like 80000 Lightning McQueen Variants, there's no way you don't have at least 12 similar looking Lightnings if you collect enough cars you ever say "gee, I want this figure and ticket, but I just don't have the THREE DOLLARS for it" at least grab one of those before you chose to stick a random motorcycle into the box so some grandparent doesn't buy it thinking "I don't remember a motorcycle in the movie, but Jimmy doesn't have this one!" only to find they spent $3.00 on a $1 hot wheels. -A Lightray/Orion DCUC 2-pack: Lightray was replaced with a Hasbro ML Black Knight and Orion with a DCD Shazam! They didn't fit in the box at all and the box itself was DESTROYED... so TRU marked it down 3 dollars! (etiquette question: I really wanted to steal the head off that Shazam since it was better sculpted then the DCUC one, but ultimately thought better of it... would that have made me just as bad as the guy who made the swap or is that a no harm no foul situation since it might desuade a stupider person from buying it thinking it a "rare factory error set!" if one of the figures had no head)
  20. Wow, my "Marshmallow Peter Hair" question got answered TWICE now. I only asked once but it got featured in TWO Q&A's which makes me seem like the crazy one. I assume they just scanned it last time and thought I wrote "Peck" instead of "Peter" (I guess the words are interchangeable in some context) so the "there just MIGHT be something like that..." answer was hinting at that awful Glob Wig. This time I got the answer which sounds like it boils down to "probably not" (at least that's what I take "we looked into it and it's something we're considering) which is fine. it's like this was the "kick everyone's ideas down" Q&A" where everything is being considered or looked into or not possible or at best a "maybe" (the only positives seemed to be Iron Man 2 and the new wave being in TRU now) so my question had to be readdressed just so it could get a more definitive "maybe... but probably not" answer.
  21. I plan to use Scorpion's TAIL for TB Venom once I get my order from Luke's.... I think continuity wise though everyone use's Scorpion's TALE for TB Venom unless they made up some fanfic origin for him.
  22. Dark Hawk/Hyperion X-23 in the Sabretooth costume/Earth X Spider-girl Stan Lee/White Blank variant: Jack Kirby/white Blank It's too early for wave 36 guesses so I'll just make sure mine are impossibly crazy.
  23. You know, that would make hell of an Elseworld book. Get Mark Millar or John Byrne, someone who wants to do crazy long sweeping Superman epics that focus on who he is on the phone and make this happen!
