  1. The 3-inch body's elbow joint is a dead giveaway. I've yet to see that body in the DC line, prototype or otherwise. Observations based on images of prototypes are inconclusive.

(Eight more weeks to Wave 1.)

  2. Having them on pegs is great, but it just doesn't look right. It's that simple and it's not the end of the world. One of my beefs about blister packaging is their lack of stackability and the new packaging wins in this area.

As a mass market manufacturer who deals with Target regularly, I have no doubt that it was Target's toy buyer who insisted on peggable packaging. With a product that small, it just makes more sense in the planogram than sticking it on the shelf with other larger boxes. The counter displayer was okay for comic shops but the packaging didn't lend itself well to mass market display.

  3. The old blister packs are still the best for presentation purposes.

And the most expensive. Although I can't help thinking that with the increase in prices, DST would be able to add a diecut window to the box and still maintain a decent margin.

  4. In series 1 we've got 2. OMAC and Lex Luthor. Personal preferences aside, OMAC I can accept. Lex Luthor makes no sense however. Why should he be 2.5"?

Agreed, but where are you getting the info that Luthor will use the 2.5-inch body?

Wave 3 irritates me. Killer Croc is the only one that is logical. He's in scale, I'll give him that. Ocean Master and Ares though. WTF?

According to this, Ares is 6' 10". I've got no problem with his Minimate being taller than Wonder Woman. As for Ocean Master, again, where have you read he's getting a 2.5" body?

That said, I have to say I'm just a wee bit disappointed that, while there's plenty of room to make big characters BIG, there's currently no solution for more diminutive characters. I'd like to see the founding members of the Teen Titans just a bit shorter than their mentors in the JLA but it's not a deal breaker. It just makes me wonder what might have been had DST been able to use AA's original 3-inch body.

  5. I'm not impressed by the packaging at all.

I am. It's far more mass market-friendly. It's peggable and you can see the figures included from the top of the box instead of the useless Minimates logo. It's gotta be more expensive though, unless they're planning on using this going forward in the specialty market as well.

  6. Speaking of spam, I just got this through my account here:

    Hey!

What's up? There's an awesome active roleplaying forum up. It's http://www.rpgnsider.com We have roleplaying, anime, video game talk- even an arcade with over 200 games. Don't forget to spread the word, I can't wait to see you there!

    Best Regards,

No idea who this member is, but that's not surprising since they have no history here (zero posts, no member number, not even a "date joined").

I'm hoping this doesn't continue. I get enough spam in my email as it is. I don't need it disguised as PMs from a board I – so far – have trusted.

  7. Is Adama bluffing?

I'm assuming these nukes can be detonated or disabled before reaching the surface. Launching them is one thing. Allowing them to reach the target is another. Not sure if this means anything but I counted six Cylon ships headed to the surface and seven nukes prepped for deployment. And one of those ships has Baltar on it.

Has there been any scuttlebutt about releasing Season 2 in its entirety on DVD? I refuse to buy it in two pricier packages. I hope they don't do that with Season 3. I missed my BSG fix over the summer. Bastards.

  8. No, he means the SFII 4-Packs.

Yup, my bad. Getting those colorful properties confused.

I've also noticed that TRU is merchandising these in the same area now. The Marvel sets used to be with the other Marvel toys but now the Minimates (Marvel, Speed Racer, and SFII) are hanging on adjacent pegs AWAY from the other Marvel product.

I recall similar issues with C3 and Stikfas having a tough time finding a "home" at TRU, sometimes being merchandised with everything from model kits and die cast vehicles to construction sets and action figures. Has anyone noticed that's the case with Minimates this time around?

  9. Speed Racer Minimates have been out for months now. I was just wondering how these things were selling in everyone's respective areas.

At $11.99, the 4-packs are collecting dust at my TRU. I can't imagine these thing won't be clearanced by the end of the season, not that they're taking up a lot of space (two pegs, tops). Then again, maybe they'll be sent to other stores where they might be selling better.

Not seeing a lot of action with the other Speed Racer sets either (action figure or 'mates with vehicles).

  10. Your posts were always very insightful and you did a great job of staying even tempered as a Mod which I can seriously appreciate (seeing as I was one of the thorns in your side), but I was always suspicious of your "look on the brightside" posts in the AACC boards.

I had "look on the brightside" posts? Me? As I recall I was either slamming AA early on or, as a Mod, trying VERY hard to be neutral so AA would allow me to keep the peace. I got reamed once or twice for criticizing AA as a Mod, but as far as I was concerned the position never came with a muzzle. If AA didn't want me shooting my mouth off about their business plans then they shouldn't have appointed the guy who exchanged F-bombs with Digger to moderate thier message board.

You're cool in my book, not that that is any comfort...

You were always cool in my book, Shane. It's not always easy to put yourself in other people's shoes. We all learned something about tolerance on that board. I just wanted to keep the poo-flinging to a minimum and – believe it or not – keep folks from being suspended or banned.

I still wish PMK had taken my advice in the AACC forum. I tried like hell to reason with him because he was a good guy with legitimate gripes but seemed hellbent on playing the martyr. I hated to lose him. I don't like seeing people stifled but when things got hairy that's exactly what Tim's kneejerk reaction was.
