  1. So I was browsing a set of trading cards from Topps called Marvel Legends. MARVEL LEGENDS cards It featured 71 of Marvel's most iconic and well-known heroes and villains. Of these 71 characters, most have been 'Mated and many have seen multiple versions released. Only 6 have yet to be given the Minimate treatment! 1) The Watcher 2) The Lizard 3) Mole Man 4) Kang 5) Mr. Sinister 6) The Toad Just thought it was interesting to note which characters considered iconic from a decade ago still have yet to be rendered in 2" plastic immortality.
  2. Wow... I'm not a huge Spidey fan but I was excited for these based on the preview pics. I'm shocked at just how poorly executed these turned out. Especially as I look at the phenomenal work done on the Wave 33 'Mates. If I were DST, I'd be having a loooooong talk with whoever did the production on these because clearly some of the shoddy paint jobs were the result of the manufacturer. I'm guessing these are going to end up warming some pegs. Maybe I'll pick them up when they're half off in four months.
  3. HARD? Maybe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? As for X-Force... I'm guessing Domino, Shatterstar, Cannonball maybe Boomer, Feral or Siryn.
  4. I left the chat open knowing I wouldn't be here for it.... it was all there and in the two minutes I left the room, my son managed to navigate out of the chat room with his elbow... or so the story goes. Needlessly to say, I'd love a transcript (edited or otherwise) As punishment, he's forbidden from playing with my new Sentinels for a week! That'll teach him!
  5. My LCS got Wave 33 and the Iron Man single issue figures (2 Drones and Justin Hammer). No sign of the Spidey Friends & Foes set... I snagged the Rachel Grey/Sentinel and Excalibur costume variant sets. Completely awesome!
  6. I'd be really interested in hearing more about the logistics behind this type of exclusive. Did DST request that you come up with set ideas on your own? Did they give any parameters at all? Is the cost greater for a set with lots of newly sculpted items and accessories (Like the Dark Avengers set?) Can you do a less costly set with mostly reused pieces (Like with the Secret Wars set?)?? I think we could all come up with some very cost effective 4-packs using almost entirely reused parts. (Hint, hint)
  7. I agree that a SHIELD 4-pack would rock (A new 616 Nick Fury is a must!) But I can TOTALLY see DST rejecting this idea because they want to use a SHIELD agent as an army builder during a normal Marvel Minimates Wave and this set would undermine that.
  8. Well, a Classic Villains mixed set could address that. Like the Women of Marvel set above, it could draw from a slew of highly requested but unproduced Bad Guys and draw from each of the various Mini-Mate "families" (Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men) -Lizard -Juggernaut (Bigger, badder version) -Enchantress -Mr. Sinister -Kang -MODOK -Arnim Zola -Spiral -Viper -Toad -Silver Samurai -Belasco -Dormammu ... the possibilities are kind of endless here.
  9. Yeah, I'd definitely follow up this basic box set with 2-packs --- Northstar and Vindicator (Heather Hudson) Sasquatch and Aurora Marrina and Master of the World Other 4-pack suggestions: Deadly Foes of the X-Men -Mr. Sinister -Toad -Juggernaut (bigger, badder version) -Sauron MojoWorld! -Longshot -Spiral -Mojo -Dazzler Age of Apocalypse -Blink -Morph -Sunfire -X-Man Soviet Super-Soldiers (Since we're getting a Crimson Dynamo) -Vanguard -Darkstar -Ursa Major -Titanium Man or Red Guardian Women of Marvel -Dazzler -Enchantress -She-Hulk -Modern Wasp -Namorita -Tigra -Hellcat -Domino - Magik - Meggan, etc. etc. A set like this could be a great option for three reasons: 1) It ties into a current Marvel publishing initiative. 2) Many of the previously mentioned sets or individual characters within each may be "ear-marked" by DST for future waves. With a theme this broad, you can mix and match more easily. 3) Many of these could be achieved without a lot of new parts, maybe a new hair sculpt or two.
  10. Possible ideas (in order of market apppeal): X-Men: Missing Teammates Set - Jubilee - Banshee - Meggan - Sunfire Avengers: Missing Teammates Set - Tigra - Mockingbird - Black Knight - Falcon Deadly Foes of Wolverine -Silver Samurai -Viper -Omega Red -Wendigo Brotherhood of Evil Mutants -Pyro - Blob -Avalanche - Destiny (or a new Mystique) New X-Men - Pixie -Anole -Rockslide -Mercury Alpha Flight -Guardian - Snowbird - Shaman - Puck Classic New Warriors - Justice - Night Thrasher -Speedball -Namorita New Defenders - Hellcat - Gargoyle - Moondragon - Nighthawk Starjammers - Raza - Ch'Od - Corsair - Hepzibah
  11. The luck of the Irish was with me today! A nearby TRU had the entire set sitting on the shelves with extras of the shortpacked ones! If anyone needs the Mr. Fantastic/World War Hulk or Storm/Klaw sets... check out my WANT/HAVE list Would love to pass along the good luck. My WANT/HAVE list
  12. Crimson Dynamo would be awesome! If only we could get a Soviet Super Soldiers boxed set to go with him with Darkstar, Vanguard, Titanium Man and Transforming Ursa Major!
  13. Sweet! I may go hunt these down tomorrow. I'll do my best to pick up some extras for those without easy TRU access.
  14. Am relieved I stumbled on this post after a few gin and tonics and half an hour of GLEE highlights...
  15. Thanks everyone! They were fun to work on and I have to say, I drew a lot of inspiration from the great work I've seen posted here! Not to mention a TON of helpful hints on how to approach customizing these little guys!
  16. Nice spin! I'll give it a go: - Angel (we've seen enough X-cellent variants to be done for a while) - Ares - only improvement would have been a mohawk piece. Otherwise, one of the best ever. - Deadpool... ditto. - Dr. Strange - Valkyrie - Gambit - War Machine (plenty of solid variations at this point) - Namor (two perfect versions) - Red Skull - Silver Surfer - USAgent
  17. - Juggernaut ( Would love him to be as large as Iron Monger) - Fantastic Four - Storm (90s version is a good start but a modern version would be good, too) - Luke Cage - Absorbing Man (packed with Titania!) - Cable (modern) - Scarlet Spider (with Rocky's hoodie) - She-Hulk - Emma Frost (I agree about the cape) - Nick Fury - Nightcrawler - Wasp (modern)
  18. Ever since I started collecting Minimates, I've toyed with the idea of trying a custom figure. I used to make larger customs waaay back in the day and it was fun. So after months of staring at that extra Johnny Storm figure, I decided to try my hand at it. MAGMA (Old School New Mutants version w/ mini-volcano accessory) I also decided to do a simpler custom first to get over my nervousness and try my hand at using the ultra-fine Sharpee I've seen recommended around here. This is a quickee of a female Skrull using the standard Skrull body and one of the extra heads from the Secret Invasion set. So... what do you think? (Be gentle... it's my first time!)
  19. DC aside I don't think that there is any license in the world that would have the possibility to see the longevity that Marvel has. Marvel has over 200 characters in their universe what other property could possibly run along side them the only thing that even comes to mind is GI Joe or Star Wars and I see no way Hasbro lets either one of those out of the house. I think that it's time DST start looking realistically at unlicensed properties. Give us police, fire and rescue, damsels in distress, soldiers, ninjas, zombies, robots, spacemen, and accessories to go with them. The vehicles are a step in the right direction and I think that Accessory Packs should be next. As for Minimates themselves I doubt they are in any danger and to be honest as much as I enjoy them if they ended tomorrow then so be it. There are real things in the world much more deserving of worry then a child's toy. Harry Potter would be an awesome license to snag with plenty of great characters to build from. Twilight would open Minimates up to a whole new audience as well.
  20. Wow...HUGE Minimate day! As cool as it is to have all these new 'Mates, I kind of wish they'd have spread these waves out by a couple of weeks.... just to have more to look forward to! (And a bit easier on my wallet) I picked up X-23/Cable, Kitty/Capt. Britain, both Angel/Madrox sets and Yellowjacket/Kree Soldier. Unfortunately, my LCS was holding the variant Goliath for regular customers who had requested them. Shoot! Cable and Kitty are the stand-outs for me. I agree that Madrox is hugely improved over the prototype, the extra "shirt" tampo on the back was a nice touch. Both waves look great but I'm disappointed with Capt. Britain's helmet. Oh, and here in Oakland the box ratio was one FA Angel per box and 3 blue/white Angels marked Variant. Strange indeed.
  21. Another villain would be cool. If it has to be Secret Wars related, I'd rather have Enchantress, Titania or Lizard over Klaw though. My biggest hope is that they add just a little more detail to Storm. I'm torn over the vest piece/no vest piece debate... but I definitely think they should use the belt from Ultimate Wolverine with her.
  22. I agree that Inhumans would be a great set of characters to explore. Dying for an Inhumans Box set (Karnak, Medusa, Triton and Gorgon) with a TRU Crystal/Lockjaw set to complete the crew.
  23. So funny that Spider-Man who they insist on including way to often is the HUGE pegwarmer of this TRU Wave. As for the 80s Storm... I'd love to see more random characters we're not likely to get elsewhere popping up in a TRU Wave. The more variety the better... - 80s Storm matched with Forge - Black Knight and Meggan - Pyro and Blob - Songbird and Baron Zemo Not a single loser in the bunch, IMO!
  24. Sage advice Mystery Man. I just got a response regarding my Jewel-headed Phoenix 'Mate and they didn't have any replacement parts since it's an exclusive set. So if anyone has an extra Phoenix head... let me know!
