  1. I received my first commissioned order this past week, from Jacob of course, for a minimate Danny Phantom. I still have to clear coat the figure then take a picture before giving it to him, but part of me wonders if it'll survive the test of time.

He'll love it. That will survive the test of time.

Back in the day when I was discovering the joys of Stikfas, my son asked me to customize an Obsidian figure for him. It's still half-done after years of sitting in my tool box. Once in a while he asks me about it, as much to tease me as anything but I regret not finishing it when he wanted it most.

  2. My collection room is right across the hall from my son's third-floor bedroom. Occasionally he'll have friends over and I cringe at the prospect of them just peeking at it. I usually just get gaping mouths, an overall look of awe on their faces. They ask how much money it cost and I tell them it's not so much about that as it is about how long I've been collecting. Most of what's in my collection is several times older than they are. When they hear that they generally back away slowly and respectfully. I haven't had to pat anybody down yet when they leave.

I dont got no mini varients but my customs are special to me and if somone touches them there gettin the belt sander

    Isnt that right Mr. PL

I get a lot of questions about why there's a belt sander next to the Minimate collection. Stupid, porn-crazed hobos.

  3. From Playthings.com:

"New MiniMates, designed by Art Asylum, make up part of Diamond Select Toys’ offerings this year. New MiniMates licenses for 2007 include: 80s Madonna film Desperately Seeking Susan, Rocky, 24, Star Trek, Back to the Future, Ghost Rider, A Few Dollars More as well as new DC and Marvel comic characters and Battlestar Gallactica [sic] additions."

    No one saw these coming.

"A Few Dollars More" I can KIND of understand since it's probably a very cheap Clint Eastwood license. (Can Dirty Harry be too far away?)

    But Madonna?

    Holy shit, dude.

  4. Brandon, if you're REALLY serious about not cleaning up after AA's messes any more, I think you belong here.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's admirable that people like you – and Donster – want to contact AA in order to fix things, but as Gardi pointed out on the AA board, this is not your mess. Like I said earlier, Adam's the one who made promises. If he wants to delegate to you, so be it, but nobody should have to coerce these people to do the right thing.

I know they're busy. So am I. A LOT of people get busy. That doesn't give them the right to ignore their obligations. Doing so just continues to paint them – and by association you – in a bad light. You could associate with more honorable people, people who actually deliver what they say they will without needing constant nagging to do so.

I'm sure these are nice people, but they should be capable of cleaning up after themselves. They shouldn't need you to rag on them like a drill sargeant until they make a move.

Personally I'm just fed up with the empty promises. If you are, too, then you should hang your hat right here.

  5. In related news, I see how Digger's been distracted lately.

    http://www.digdeepentertainment.com/

And this is different from Art Asylum how exactly? I guess Digger wants to continue doing freelance sculpting but NOT under his own company's banner? Is Digger even involved in the Asylum anymore?

It's nice to see him getting some work (DST's Marvel Zombie's) but it's odd he can't seem to get assignments through his own company.

  6. What the hell can Brandon do?

Seriously. His record on follow-through speaks for itself.

Besides, my issue is with Art Asylum. I finally got a coerced public "thank you" after being unceremoniously dumped as one of their volunteers but have gotten none of the "swag" I was promised. It was ADAM, not Brandon, who posted "So to the 5 Mods, THANK YOU, we're working on your special thank you gift as Brandon has provided us with each of your current AA afflictions so we'll try to deliver on that as best as we can." That was on November 6, 2006. I've since registered on the forum so I could be contacted via PM but have gotten nothing. And now Brandon is expecting us to take the next step?

As far as I'm concerned, Brandon should have quit a long time ago at the first sign he was making promises AA couldn't keep. All he's been doing is enabling AA to maintain a status quo of "exclusive" information via a message board few care exists. He's obviously just done with this situation and wants it over with.

I can't help thinking AA wanted to start from scratch with no volunteer mods and only the occasional dialogue between themselves and their consumers, not unlike the way it was when they first introduced the forum. There was a LOT more interaction back then but things change. AA's got a lot more on their plate and they seem to be doing more third-party design than ever before. Still, they shouldn't have someone like Brandon dangling carrots on the forum only to disappoint members in the long run.

Bottom line: Unless Brandon's sitting on a stockpile of BSG Minimates he's ready to ship out to me, I really don't see what he personally can do to settle the score.

  7. I'm cutting back on my DC Direct figures significantly. I've already passed on figures I was aching to get and have been selling off my loose collection a little at a time.

I'm also down to one lunch out a week, coincidentally on comic-shop day. :whistling:
